Seeing Richard and Nessie's proximity Leonard was burning in rage, he had been feeling as if someone had been pouring burning lava over him.
He took Nessie here to make a good impression in her eyes but Richard's sudden appearance here ruined his plan, and what irritated Leonard the most was Nessie's excitement and blush after seeing Richard.
