It’s been a week since Draven and I decided to keep our distance and unlike how I imagined, nothing between us changed except intimacy.
To avoid seducing each other accidentally, we changed our sleeping arrangements. Draven moved himself to the couch in our room while I took the bed. I offered him to sleep on the couch as our couch was big enough for me to sleep comfortably but was too damn cramped for Draven but he insisted on sleeping on the couch, saying, “I have slept on this couch too many times that now I feel comfortable sleeping on it,”
In the end, I had to give in reluctantly. Other than that nothing between us changed and that assured me that no matter how long I take, Draven will patiently wait for me to sort out my thoughts.
Apart from our time away from each other, everything else was going well for me. I became close to Anita, the barista at Sweet Tooth and we met each other almost every day. I got to learn many new things about our pack and it gave me a thrill to hear her talk about our pack with such pride.
“Ah, Luna, may I ask which pack you belong to?” Anita asked suddenly, her eyes filled with curiosity. I never expected her to ask such a question so I was put in a spot. Thankfully, her cafe was empty and there was no other employee except her so I took a moment to think about my answer and say, “This is my pack.”
My answer was vague but accurate at the same time. She interpreted my answer as me being a rogue and her eyes filled with sympathy.
“You must have suffered a lot,” she frowned in worry.
“It’s all in the past,” I smiled at her, relieved that she interpreted my words in the way I wanted her to.
“Alright, enough of the depressing talk. You try this new pastry I tried and cheer yourself up,” she slid a plate filled with lots of pastries that smelled like heaven.
“Oh, my Gosh, this is a lot,” I gasped, and after thanking her for making these for me, I dug in, moaning as I feasted on the pastry. “These are so good.”
Anita smiled at me warmly as she watched me eat.
“You like sweet things,” she remarked.
“I do. Sweets are my comfort. Whenever I’m sad or happy, I crave sweet things,” I smiled at her.
“Are you happy or sad now?” she asked.
“Why would I be sad? I’m happiest I have ever been,” I chuckled and dug into the pastries again. While I feasted on the pastries, she busied herself with making a new batch of pastries for the next day.
An hour after I was done eating the pastries, Delaney visited the cafe to pick me up.
“Wanna go for a run?” she popped her head in through the glass door, greeting me with a sheepish smile. Just like how I spend my mornings with Anita nowadays, I have been spending my evenings with Denaley. We go for a long run every single day without fail.
“You already know the answer to that,” I grinned back, and after thanking Anita for the delicious pastries, I left with her.
“So, how was your day today?” Delaney asked the same question as usual.
“It was great. I got to eat Anita’s new pastries and I got to know a lot about the pack too. How was it for you? Is Draven giving you a hard time,” I teased her. Delaney laughed at my joke.
“I'm proud to say Alpha is a pain in the ass every day,” she jokes back, making me chuckle.
“I can never imagine Draven like that. He is the sweetest, kindest person to ever exist,” I said.
“That, he is but he is also a pain in the ass. Oh, and stubborn too,” she commented.
“He is stubborn sometimes,” I chuckled, thinking back to little things he is stubborn about and a smile crept its way up to my eyes.
Seeing me smile, she sighed, looking troubled about something.
“You have been sighing like that since the beginning. Did something happen?” I asked.
“Something did happen,” she nodded.
“Hmmm, do you need any help with it? Is it something I can help you with?” I asked, eager to help her in any way I could. She has shown her support for me every day and I wanted to do something for her in return.
“Then, can you give me advice?” She asked.
“I'm not sure if I will give you good advice but I will try my best,” I said.
“It's regarding my cousin. She met with an accident and she lost her memory. Some of her memories are mixed up and there are a lot of fake memories. Do you think her mate should hide it from her? If you were her, would you like to live in oblivion or would you rather know that your memories are all lies?”
I carefully listened to her, and after thinking it through, I said, “I would be upset if I found out that all the memories are lies and it would infuriate me if I get to know it from anyone other than my mate.”
“But,” I added, “I would also like to live in oblivion. If the truth is something that would hurt me and could harm my relationship with my mate then I would like to remain in oblivion all my life. It's a tough choice, really. Her mate should come clean to her. She would be very hurt if she got to know the truth from someone else. She may end up losing all trust in him because of this.”
“You are good at giving advice,” she smiled. “I pray that they remain happy like this. Both are precious to me and I would hate to see any one of them get hurt,” she commented.
“You must love them dearly,” I pointed out.
“Yes, I hold them dearly,” she smiled. “We are here.”
“You never fail to surprise me,” I mused as I looked around us. Delaney has promised to show all her secret spots she prefers running in so daily we cover a new area of the pack, and every day, I'm met with different beautiful scenery during our running time.
“What are you waiting for? Strip quickly and let's go.”
I chuckled as I shifted and followed after her, our fur bristling as we ran through the woods. We ran through the woods for hours, only returning home after we were exhausted.
Draven was still working in the office so I decided to take a bath and prepare a meal for us. When I walked out of the shower, I found a note sitting on top of our bed, which wasn't there when I went for a shower.
Curious, I opened the note, growing as I read the content of the letter. It said -
If you want to know about your mother, meet me near the pack border tomorrow at 9.
