Chapter 13: Secrets

Dinner went really quickly as they both had worked up quite the appetite training. 

Matt had ordered a huge 24" pizza to share and Lilly had eaten way more than half - it was so unlike her but it was delicious and her nervous over the conversation that was coming next got the better of her making her seek comfort from the delicious greasy carbs. 

" Wow, I didn't have you down for such a big eater ." Matt chuckled and Lilly wiped the grease from her chin smiling.

 " Sorry I think I may have eaten more than my share, it was just so good," Lilly replied blushing.

" It's okay I will forgive you, besides you can get away with the carbs and I certainly can't so you're doing me a favor! " Matt replied grinning at her as he passed her a can of fizzy juice.

" I have never known a man to care about carbs! " Lilly giggled returning Matt's smirk and accepting the juice gratefully.

" Well what can I say ... there's no man like me ." Matt winked and Lilly smiled as she replied " no there isn't .. Matt I need to tell you something .. " Lilly began but suddenly Matt leaned forward with a napkin and gave     Lilly a sexy grin.

" you have pizza all over your face, here let me ." Matt leaned in so close Lilly could feel his breath on her neck as he gently wiped the side of her face then moved round to her mouth, " They're all gone ." Matt smiled kindly still close to Lilly.

 " Wow I didn't realize before but your eyes aren't all blue,  they are more a Turquoise a kind of bluey-green and they are stunning Lil..." Matt compliment was cut short when Lilly caught up in the moment suddenly leaned forward and kissed him passionately .. or at least attempted too.

Matt froze in shock at first but he quickly snapped out of his shock and gently pushed Lilly away.

" Lilly no .. I am sorry, I know I am flirty but I thought you knew that was just friendly banter I never meant to led you on or give you the wrong impression. It's not you it's me and I know that sounds cliche but I promise it's the truth.. please forgive me. " Matt said desperately for her to understand and feeling guilty for hurting his friend.

Lilly turned her face away from Matt to hide her tears, she was so stupid! Why did she do that? what was she thinking ... like a guy as hot as Matt would never be interested in someone like her. He may have been trying to let her down gently but saying it wasn't her but, of course, it was she was obviously not his type and he was way out her league and now she may have ruined their friendship. 

Matt could only see the side of her face but he knew she was crying and he felt like such an ass. He hated seeing Lilly who he had grown fond of upset and felt so guilty that he was the cause of her pain. He looked at her and he could tell she was blaming herself and didn't believe him when he told her he was him and not her. 

Matt sighed he couldn't stand seeing her so upset and although he had only known her for a few weeks he felt a close connection to her and he trusted her, so he took a deep breath and decided he would trust Lilly with his secret - a secret he had never told anyone one after all their friendship was worth the risk.

" Lil, please look at me. " Matt gently turned her face towards him "I know you don't believe me when I said it's not you it's me but it was the truth, you Lilly are the most gorgeous woman I ever have seen. You have luscious natural golden blonde hair women pay a fortune to a hairdresser to have, you have stunning eyes, thick long lashes, pouty natural red lips, and your figure... it's a perfect hourglass, you Lilly are simply gorgeous and I wish you could see yourself as others see you. " Matt said honestly and  Lilly looked at him confused as his tone was so sincere.

" I promise I am telling the truth, you're a knock out Lil you're just not my type," Matt said and Lilly stared at him in shock, he was being serious he thought she was beautiful she could tell by his tone and sincere expression. " I know I haven't known you that long Lil but there's this strong connection between us and it feels like I have known you for years and i ... I am fond of you and I would like to think one day we can be more than friends, like best friends or family. As I feel so close to you and I trust you I am going to trust you with a secret I haven't told anyone before and I hope it helps you understand... Lilly, I am gay. " 

Lilly began to cry,  this time not tears of sadness but tears of happiness that Matt felt as close to her as she did him.. maybe not in the same way but she was so happy that by the sounds of it he wanted her in his life still and she felt so humbled that he would share his secret with her. 

Matt was starring at Lilly nervously when Lilly suddenly grabbed him in a tight embrace catching him off guard. " Oh Matt I am so sorry I put you in such an awkward position.. and I am so humbled you would choose to share your secret with me. " Lilly said as she pulled back and wiped away the tears of relief that were falling down Matt's handsome face. " And I feel a strong connection to you too, I have been so confused about my feelings all day as I realized I think so fondly of you too and I trust you .. you make me feel safe and valued which is rare in my life and I would love for us to be more than friends to best friends or family." Lilly reached out to hold his hand " I admit I have ... had a crush on you as well you're a very handsome guy, you dress so well and you always smell amazing and you are so gentlemanly and great fun.. who wouldn't ." Lilly giggled and Matt joined in.

" You are right I am practically irresistible.. almost godly ." Matt laughed as he stroked Lilly's hand in a loving gesture. " And I am sorry Lilly that not everyone in your life treats you as you deserve and makes you feel safe and valued... I am always here for you if you want to talk and I will always protect you." 

Lilly and Matt hugged each other and Lilly decided to take a leap of faith and trust him also " Thank you Matt you're a good friend and since you trusted me with your secret I will tell you mine .." Lilly crossed her legs on the couch and turned to face Matt " Matt my mum died when I was ten and my brother .. Jason ..." 

Lilly opened up to Matt and told him everything that had happened in her life, her mum dying, her dad dying and Jason blaming her, Jason sorting himself out and being a good brother, Jason relapsing and becoming violent, Jason working for the Mafia, Jason forcing her out of school and her hopes and dreams for her future. 

After an hours heart to heart and both of them vowing to keep the other's secrets and Matt vowing that Jason would never lay a hand on her again, Lilly and Matt cuddled up on the couch to watch a movie both for the first time in their lives feeling fully accepted for who they are and unburdened now they found someone they trusted to share their secrets with.
