Chapter 5That night, as Devon lay in bed, waiting for sleep to take him, he suddenly remembered something that had happened while he was in hospital. It was such a strange thing to have forgotten, but now that he was recalling it, there was no way he would forget it ever again. The sensations had been too strong. The scene played in front of his mind’s eye like a movie. The events unfolding slowly and as clear as day. He was floating above his physical self as the surgeon and his theatre staff worked frantically on his mangled body. He could hear the occasional mumble, but as he tried to catch what they were saying, he became aware of other sounds. His mother crying. His father doing his best to comfort her. There were words hanging in the ether attached to them, words that he could read.
