A brand new day

It was such a wonderful morning where the sun is shining brightly. With some older people gathering in a park to do exercise together and people moving around. Despite today’s great weather, a young man in his eighteen is still sleeping soundly like a log.

*beep beep*

The alarm clock at the bedside table is ringing loudly. With a lazy move, he pressed on the alarm, and it immediately went off. He planned to go back to sleep, but it didn’t go well as a few seconds later, his phone rings and someone is calling him.

*ring ring*

Max feels very tired after yesterday’s hero examination test. However, he didn’t dare to ignore the phone call as he knows that there will only be one person that will call his number. With a heavy heart, Max forced himself to grabbed his phone and picked up the call.

“What is it, big sis?”

“Ya! How dare you ask me with that kind of annoyed tone? Not to mention it seemed that you are still laying down on the bed. Don’t you know what time is it?”

“It’s not even one minute after my alarm clock ring. It should be 6 a.m.”

“Then why are you still not prepared even if you know that?”

“Prepare? Prepare for what?”

“Oh, God. Do you really act like this because you don’t know?”

“Cut to the chase, big sis. What is happening?”

“Don’t you know what happened yesterday?”

“Yesterday? It was my hero license test.”

“Then, do you know who you are now?”

“Me? I’m Max?”

“Not that, you big dummy. You have now become a hero. Although you are just a newbie D-rank, there’s something that you need to do.”

“Eh, what is that?”

“Work! Do you know? As a hero, it is natural for you to patrol the street and make the people familiar with you. If you’re patrolling the streets, there will be more chance for you to catch a robber in action and get yourself acknowledged.”

“EEEEh? What are you saying, big sis? Isn’t that the job of a policeman?”

“Policeman serves the people, and so do you. So if you’re still lazing around the bed, you won’t get any pocket money this month.”

“EEEEHHHH? Wait a minute, big sis! This isn’t fair!”

“Fair or not, I am your investor, and since you’re now legally allowed to take hero duties, I hope you will start making money for me.”

Although Max knows that Kalina is just joking with him, her word also makes him realize one thing. Today, although the room that he rented still tiny and messy, it looked different and dazzling. As if the world is brighter and Max opened his eye as he is fully awake right now.

“Alright, big sis. Give me some time to wash up first.”

“Five minutes. That’s all the time that I’m giving you. I’ll be waiting for you at the park so don’t you dare to be late. Also, check under your bed.”

“What’s under my bed?”

“Don’t ask too much and just hurry up.”

Kalina has hung up the phone, and it makes Max speechless. However, it was rare for his big sister to disturb his morning routine. Usually, they only have a meeting in the afternoon or evening for training purposes. Other than that, Kalina didn’t bother him too much because she has her own job too.

Max got up from his bed and headed towards the bathroom to clean up. After washing his face and brushing his teeth, he is ready to take some clothes from the closet before remembering Kalina’s message.

He looked under the bed and found a box underneath. Naturally, Max is curious to see what’s inside the box. He opened it with full expectation, and he knows that his big sister won’t let him down. The moment he lifts the lid, he immediately smiled ear to ear.

Inside the box, there’s a white card full of handwriting and clothes inside. He takes the card and reads what’s written on it.

“Max, congratulations on passing the hero examination test. I never doubted that you would pass the test, so I prepare this from a long time ago. I know your size, so this costume will suit you well. I will be waiting for you at the park.”

“Pfft. What is this? She already prepares for this from a long time ago. Not to mention she really prepared to wait for me at the park. Well, I guess I should quickly put this on and be on my way quickly.”

Max then takes out the costume from the box and puts it on. The moment Max touched the outfit, he knows that it was made from unique materials. In fact, every heroes’ costume needs to be made using special materials so it won’t break when battling and shouldn’t hinder the heroes’ power.

The costume that Kalina prepared for Max comes in four pieces. Firstly, the ankle-height leather boots are colored in light green, just like the first leaves in spring. Next, the green gloves that come in matching color with the pattern on the under-suit-like costume that is dyed in light blue just like the sky.

Lastly, the hero’s mask that is more like of a hood and could be connected to his costume. Max really liked this part since he could hide his identity when needed, although his clothes already give it away. Somehow, some heroes decided to conceal their real-life identity to protect their families from harm’s way.

If they act like a hero with their exposed face, the villains who have a grudge might retaliate towards their family after finding out their real identity. However, some heroes don’t really care about that and act like a hero openly.

For Max, he prefers to hide his face, so he liked this mask very much. Not to mention it was more like of a hood and really suit his taste. Max also loved the costume’s color as it wasn’t too showy and subtle but pleasing to the eyes.

*ring ring*

Max is still engrossing himself with the costume and his new look in the mirror before his phone rings once again. Max knows that he is already gone past the promised five minutes, and he is in trouble. He quickly picks up his phone and runs outside of his rented room towards the park.
