After the day Max discovered his power, he has tried to use his power again but to no avail. He understands that even jumping from the roof might not get him the same result again. He might even lose his life for real this time.
As much as Max wants to use his power again, he doesn't want to risk his life for it. What he can do right now is just to slowly come to understand his own power. For other people, there are reasons why they wanted to enter the hero's school. They will be able to learn about their own power and explore it under the guidance of experts.
Not to mention the teachers, experiences from the predecessors are the real gold here as it wasn't something that can be brought by money. For example, a fire-based superpower user will be able to learn how the previous fire-type heroes used their power. Whether they took the same or different approaches as they develop their ability, it all will become knowledge for the future, and in the long term, it will shorten the time for other fire user heroes to master their power.
Some might look at this advantage lightly, but the number of heroes that is becoming stronger and stronger with each generation is the living proof of how useful it is. The amount of time shortened from getting into the right path when developing your superpower and avoiding the wrong direction is immense. Not to mention that there is a risk of dying when taking the wrong path when developing your power that could be avoided if you look at the experience of all the predecessors before you.
Taking into example, the fire-based superpower user from earlier, if he takes the wrong path, he might end up in a self-destruct accident when he developed his power inside his body. Or, he might spend months developing an ability that ends up unusable as it wasn't efficient and takes too much time to prepare or too much energy to unleash.
All in all, the knowledge given by the heroes school is something indispensable for the heroes of the new generation to surpass the previous generation and getting stronger with each incoming heroes.
As for Max, he is still a young boy that doesn't even understand the common knowledge or principle behind science and nature to explain how his power works. Where did the wind come from, or what is his real power? Is he able to control the wind, or is it something else? Max has no way to answer that questions as until today; he is still confused on what is his real power.
It wasn't until his first science class that Max vaguely understand about his own power. It was such a sunny day, and the science class teacher brought the topic that they needed to learn for today.
"Hello everyone, today we will learn about air and weather."
Said the science teacher as he walked inside the room, bringing a balloon and a fan.
"Everyone, doesn't it feel a little hot today? In times like this, a breeze will feel really refreshing."
The teacher uses the fan that he is holding, and everyone in the class can see from his hair that is dancing in the air as he fanned his face that it was very cool.
"Now, can anyone tell me why I feel very cool when I fanned myself?"
Some students looked confused, some looked down to think, and some raised their hands trying to guess the answer without caring whether their answer is right or wrong. As for Max, he is paying close attention as he thinks that he might understand something about his power as he first thought that his superpower is to control the wind.
"Me, teacher."
"Okay, Sam, what do you think?"
"I think it's because of the wind."
"Correct. As I move the fan, a gust of wind is created. However, can anyone tell me what wind is?"
Everyone was disappointed when they hear Sam got the correct answer, but then the next question comes out. Most of the students are now confused because they don't know the answer to it.
"Wind is wind, right?"
"I don't know. I think there's something more to it since the teacher asked us, but I don't really understand."
"Alright, everyone. Time's up, and there doesn't seem to be anyone that could answer it, so I will explain it to you. The wind is moving air, and the thing that we will learn today is about air."
This is the first time for most of the students, including Max, to learn the word and concept of air.
"You might be confused, so look over here."
The teacher then picks up the inflated balloon and blows into it. Not long after, the balloon becomes big, and everyone in the class is looking at it.
"Now, can you tell me what is inside the balloon?"
Some of the bright students are quick to catch on as they answered loudly.
"It’s air!” “It’s wind!”
While some of them still couldn’t remember what the teacher just told them earlier.
“It seemed that you have different opinions here. The correct answer is air. I told you earlier that wind is moving air. Gentle-moving air is called a breeze, and a strong moving air is called a storm. Okay, some of you might not understand, so I will explain it. Air is something that you couldn’t see, but you can feel it. just like how you feel the wind because the wind is made up of air.”
The teacher paused for a moment to let the students swallow the new information before continuing.
“Some of you might not believe it, so here, I need one volunteer.”
“Me!” “Me!”
Many of them tried to come forward and raised their hand, including Max, as he wanted to understand it better. Sadly, he wasn’t chosen as someone else stepped forward in front of the class.
The teacher then put the balloon in front of the student's face and then cut a small hole using scissors. Then, the girl’s hair is gently blown back as some air from inside the balloon is coming out.
“What I did earlier is blowing some air into the balloon. When I make a hole from the balloon, the wind is created as the air from inside the balloon is moving outside, trying to flee from the cramped space.”
The rest of the students are busy trying to understand what happened just now, but Max is thinking of something else.
“When I jumped down from the orphanage’s roof, at the last moment, there’s a gust of wind. Does it mean that my ability has to do with controlling the air? I need to try it out later.”
