Chapter #2 An Impromptu Trip

Enrique Enrique stared at the brown envelope and he was not sure what to expect. He wasn't even sure whether he wants to open it in the first place. What was done, was already done...was it worth it, digging the old grave?  Old? He scoffed. She just left two days ago. And he hates to admit it but she hasn't left his mind even once. It was like a freaking Clash of Clans in his head. While one side screamed Amber's name, the other one can't stop thinking about that quirky, crazy girl. How the f**k was that possible? It doesn't even makes sense. Can you think about two person at the same time? What does that even make him? A pervert? Coward or just...human.   "Vera...she left it for you. I don't know what it is. Not sandwiches for sure,"  He sighed as he stared at her really bad writing and for some reason it amused him. Enrique. f**k it. He flopped down on the bed and cautiously opened the packet. Definitely not sandwiches. There were pictures inside, polaroids. Of him. So many pictures of him. One of them was of him standing at a distance and Enrique realized that it was taken where Cecilia and Vin's engagement took place, that day when she was almost killed.  There were many others. From the engagement, from Vin and Ci's wedding, some of them were so random that he almost felt invaded. But they were beautiful clicks, like she captured him with a lot of care and...love. Enrique felt even shitter than he feels when he gets drunk.  Apart from the photographs, there was also a letter inside. He knew he will feel worse if he opens that but he also felt this was the least he could do for her. He opened the letter and took a deep breath.  Dear Enrique... I will be gone by the time you get this letter, which is good because I am already embarrassed that I am actually writing a letter when I could already DM you on the i********: or something. But then, who the hell knows if you even use that. I never looked you up, another surprise. Okay, sorry...I am getting a bit off track here.  There's nothing much I have to say to you to be honest because what the hell do we even know about each other? But  yet there are somethings that I do need to tell you.  How about I start with thank you? Thank you so much for everything, Enrique. Had I not met you, I would have never become the person I am today. You brought out the good in me with your kindness and I will always be indebted to you. Thank you for accepting me and making me feel wanted in the crowd, make me feel worthy when my own family gave up on me. Thank you for...your comfort. For saving my life, for holding me when I needed someone to hold me and for just being...you.  You are an amazing person and it makes complete sense that you fell for Amber. She is a goddess. Unfortunately, it can't work with Amber but I hope in the end you do find someone who is worthy of your love and care... Don't feel guilty or beat yourself up about whatever that happened between us. I'd rather see it as a beautiful memory than a whim of the moment mistake even though we both know that is exactly what it was. Still, I am glad that I got to know you even a little.  Don't let your disgusting father or brother beat you up, Enrique. Stand up for yourself and fight because you are worthy of much more than they can ever give you. I wish you best of luck in all your endeavors.  Have a happy life ahead... Yours,  Vera... PS: Also thank you for making me realize that I was capable of love too. Because to me, love was never an option...before you.  Enrique stared at the letter and closed his eyes. The feelings inside him were weird and were making no sense to him. And suddenly, there were things he wanted to say too. Things that she deserved to hear once. The way he parted ways with her was wrong and...brutal.  "I am glad that you are leaving tomorrow, Vera. And I don't mean it in a mean way. I know its hard for you. I have been through that and is still going through it. I am so sorry for ever doing this to you. I am really really very very sorry. I hope you can have a happy, abundant life ahead and I hope you can forget all about me and move on. I wish you a best of luck..." He didn't even give her a chance to say anything. Like a f*****g coward, he blurted all that out on her face so that he just...he doesn't even know himself. It was all just so messed up inside his own head that it created a freaking chaos inside him. Enrique glanced at the cactus sitting by his window, Enrique Junior as Amber named him and he knew she was actually the right person to talk to. But he was refraining from that because he has created enough misunderstandings between the Ivan and her in the first place. And close conversations with Amber was not a good idea to start with. She being too close to him, messes up with his head. He stared at the envelope and he knew the decision he made earlier was the right thing to do.  "I am going to go see Vera. It's just...It's a weird feeling inside. I can't explain it. But I feel she can help me...you know...I don't know and that is what the weirdness is about. I just don't know how I feel about her. I don't love her but I also can't get her out of my head. It's crazy and it's driving me insane,"  He knew it back then. He knew the moment she left that there were things left unsaid between them. Whatever happened between them was just casual s*x and yet...it was not. There was something, just something different to call it casual. The way she held him that night, the way he held her that night...it was not casual. And given he was pretty clear about his feelings about Amber, he knew he can't ever figure things out on his own.  And the only person who can help was Vera herself. He needed to see her and talk to her and maybe she can show him the way out of this miserable s**t people call unrequited love these days? He felt a weird calling inside himself to go see her. Why? He had no idea about that either. Enrique pulled out his phone and dialed Amber. It was late and he hesitated a bit, given there were already problems going on between Amber and Ivan about Amber's move to London. Enrique wasn't surprised because Ivan had gone almost crazy when she was gone for a year before. She just got back so of course it was hard. But Amber's point was fair too. She needed to do what she has to for her life.  Enrique decided he wasn't going to take sides here. It was too risky. "Enrique," Her voice was sweet as always. "Everything alright?"  "Yeah, yeah," Enrique answered, scratching his head. "Uh, can you...can you give me Vera's address?" It felt so weird asking her for some reason.  "Oh," She was surprised. "Uh, sure...of course. I will text it right away after confirming. Are you going to go see her?"  "Er...I..." Enrique had no idea what to say to her, to be honest. He had no idea what he was doing anymore. "It's okay, Enrique...remember we are best friends?" She said softly and he sighed. This is the very thing about her that makes him weak.  "I need to talk to her...I need answers, that I think only she can give. I don't know what I am doing anymore, Amber," He answered. "I think its a good idea," She answered and he could sense her smile. "You always need a proper goodbye anyway, if it comes to that," Enrique said nothing and after a while he heard Amber sigh. "I know..." She continued. "Vera can be a little too much to take sometimes but...she's the most brutally honest person I have ever seen in my life. And it goes without saying that honest people have the purest hearts. Vera's feelings for you are very true, Enrique and no...I am not forcing you or anything. What you feel is for you to decide, I am just letting you know so if you are doubting her feelings even for a second than don't. People like Vera don't fall for anyone easily but when they do...they fall damn hard. I hope you find the answers you are looking for when you see her. I will text you the address, okay? I gotta go now...have nonsense to deal with,"  "Thank you, Amber," Enrique answered and cutting the call, sighed.   People like Vera don't fall for anyone easily but when they do...they fall damn hard.  Seriously, how can someone like her fall for someone like him? They were completely opposites. Not a single hair similar. Vera was all out, he was all in. He likes to keep to himself and just allow a few selected people in while Vera was the social butterfly. He was introverted, she was undoubtedly the biggest extrovert he has seen. Even if he tries, can this ever work? Opposites do attract each other but that's science for poles of a magnet. What about humans? He rubbed his face and turned his eyes to the photographs lying on the bed.  Guess, he will know soon.  Enrique hoped to God that she hasn't already left for Moscow even though Amber said she postponed for two more days for some reason. If she has he will be thoroughly screwed coming all the way here. This was by far the stupidest, most spontaneous thing he has ever done in his life. He stared at the apartment building and it seemed fairly posh to him. The elevator whisked him to tenth floor and he climbed out and gazed at both the doors opposite of each other. Hers was supposed to be B. His mouth  was dry and stomach in knots because he was frankly intimidated by her sparkling blue eyes. As he rang the bell he wondered how to explain his sudden appearance. Enrique frowned when ten minutes went by and no one opened up.  Oh God...what if she was with someone else and he just barged in? It would be awkward as f**k. Or what if she just doesn't wants to see him or something?  He was suddenly pissed at himself. What the f**k was he doing here? Like seriously, what in hell?  "Enrique..." He froze as her voice reached him and slowly turned to see her standing by the elevator. She looked weird. Eyes all puffy, face red...she looked as if she has cried. What happened?  "What are you doing here?" She whispered softly.  I have no idea... He thought. "I er..." He searched around for the words and in the end decided to go for the truth. "I came to see you," Vera's eyes widened in surprise as she stared at him blankly before, to his horror tears streamed down her eyes. Crap...what did he do to make her cry? She ran to him and threw her arms around his body so hard that he was almost knocked off. She was crying incoherently and Enrique was completely clueless. Was she happy? Was she sad? What just happened?  "Vera...what's wrong?" He asked, softly, rubbing her back. "Did something happen?"  "Why didn't you come a little earlier," She wailed in his chest. "If only you came a little earlier..." Enrique blinked, completely at loss.  What was that supposed to mean?  _____________________________ A/N: Hello dear readers! Good morning to you all. So here's the next update . I hope you like it guys . Lol, I see some mixed comments on first chapter but thank you for understanding Vera's point readers. I think she is extremely strong to have made that decision all by herself. It takes some gut for sure. Now we need to see how Enrique's return turns out for them.  Apologies guys but I have to go for weekly updates on this one As I mentioned yesterday the ideas are all over my head and I need some firm ground to piece them together. Updating daily will compromise with the quality of the story that I don't want. I want to make the chapters longer and better. So as for now, at least until I figure everything out, the updates will come weekly. The schedule is Tuesday and Fridays every week. If I can do double updates I will try that too. I know many of you will be disappointed but I need the story be as beautiful as Amber and Ivan's or Hazel and Damien's so I need some space. I hope you guys understand.  Also, if any of you are waiting to start on The Game Of Love, I suggest give it a try now because once my editor returns from break she will sign it and it will go to PTR to get some promotion. The Game Of Redemption will be updated regularly as usual.
