Make it Right

{Silas’ POV} I worried all night about Noelle, I knew that I shouldn’t, I didn’t know her, nor did I owe her anything. Still, I worried about why she was so afraid, and why she carries a gun. I hated the way that I talked to her, but she has been pampered ever since she got here. She doesn’t have to lift a single finger, meanwhile I’m working my a** off on both of the ranches. I decided that I would go to check on her first thing in the morning. I finally found myself drifting off to sleep, and when the sun crept in through my window I slowly got up, getting dressed in a t-shirt and pair of old worn down blue jeans. I tossed on my hat, and my boots and made my way down the hill. I went to knock, but peered in, noticing that she was out cold propped up against the wall next to the fireplace. The gun from the night before was on the ground beside her. I shook my head, how could she be so careless. I unlocked the door with mom’s key, and carefully made my way to her. I picked her up gently, and packed her to the couch laying her down. I grabbed the other throw blanket on the back of the couch, but as I went to cover her up, I noticed some scars on her inner thigh, they looked like cigar burns. Anger rose in my chest, did whoever she’s running from do this to her? I covered her up with the blanket, and walked back to the spot she was sleeping at in the floor and grabbed her gun. I packed it back up to her room, and placed it on her dresser before closing the bedroom door behind me. I walked slowly back down the stairs and into the living room, checking on her. She was sleeping so soundly, but then her eyes began moving rapidly back and forth behind her eyelids. She shook her head from side to side and I could see that she was beginning to cry. “N-No.. Parker.. please..” she cried out. Was Parker the bas**** that’s did that to her, if he burned her, what else did he do? I stepped around the couch, sitting down on the edge, and gently placing my hand on her arm. “Hey.. wake up, you’re having a bad dream..” I said, gently shaking her. “No!” She screamed, jolting up and knocking me to the ground. “S-Silas?” She said, her voice filled with anxiety as she looked down at me. “You can’t blame me this time, when I came down to check on you, you were asleep next to the fireplace! Do you know how dangerous that is?” I asked her, standing up carefully. “You even had your gun on the ground beside you.. imagine if Emmaline had come down here instead of me?” She winced as I yelled, and I stopped, moving back away from her. “Sorry.. I didn’t mean to yell at ya, I just.. You’re very self destructive, aren’t you?” She sighed, standing up and stretching, her robe fell slightly off her shoulder and I could see some tattoos peeking out. She has tattoos.. and.. dam*** I didn’t meant to see all of this, last night I was worried and didn’t really notice, but now it’s clear to see that she has her nip**** pierced. I could feel my face heating up as I moved back. She stepped around me and towards the kitchen. “I’m sorry.. I ruin everything I touch..” she said barely above a whisper. “Just go back home Silas, I’m alright now, sorry for bugging you..” her voice was soft, but cold as she dismissed me shaking her head and walking back up the staircase. I heard her door slam shut, and I knew that I had gone and done it again. I always did say the wrong thing, just like Daphne. I turned, making my way out of the house, making sure to lock the door behind me. I walked back up the hill and got started on my chores. I fed all of the animals on our ranch, and gathered the eggs, milked the cows, and let the sheep and cows out to graze. I looked down over the hill noticing the electrician and Owen knocking on Noelle’s door. That’s right, he had said something about her wanting an alarm system. I turned back to my chores, and noticed Emmaline petting one of the horses, Roxanne. The horses were always her favorite, she’d begged me to teach her to ride, but she’s too young yet. She often tried sneaking into the horse’s corral, but I had to ban her from it. Owen’s horse Smokey didn’t take too kindly to anyone being in the pen with them, unless it was me or Owen that is. “Emmaline, come away from there!” I snapped at her. She turned to face me and nodded, climbing down from her place on the fence. “Why don’t you go down and say hi to Noelle? Your uncle Owen is down there right now.” I said, smiling down at her. She smiled brightly. “Really? I can go?” She asked, practically jumping for joy. “Yeah, go on now, and be careful!” I chuckled, as she turned and ran down the house towards Noelle’s house. Emmaline would be okay down there for now, since Owen is there. I turned back around and got back to work, finally finishing up my chores. As I stalked my way back inside I ran into Daphne. She sighed looking down the hill. “I want to go say hi.. but I’m worried she hates me..” she said, shaking her head. “Why would you think that?” I asked, a chuckle coming from deep in my chest. “I didn’t know.. but she apparently didn’t know that Roy had passed. I told her on the car ride to the ranch, and I’m worried that I’ve upset her.” She sighed, running her fingers through her hair nervously. So that’s why she was so upset.. and I yelled at her. She lost her mother, and just a few days ago she learned that she lost her father. I sighed heavily, finally understanding how badly I’d messed up. “If she hates anyone, it’s me, so don’t worry too much about it. You should go talk to her, I’m sure she could use a friend.” She nodded, smiling softly up at me. “I don’t think anyone could ever hate you Silas, but you’re right. I think she could use a friend too.” She turned and made her way carefully down the hill. I walked inside the house, noticing my mom peeling some potatoes. I sighed and sat down at the kitchen island. “Well, I messed up.” “What do you mean?” She asked, setting down the knife and potato. “I was so awful to her, and Daphne just told me that she just found out that her dad died. I was awful mom, even told her that she was a spoiled princess because she wouldn’t go out to get her own stuff.” I shook my head, placing it in my hands. She sighed, walking around the counter and pulling me into a hug. “What are you gonna do about it Si?” She asked. “Make it right.” Was all I said, before standing and heading to the bathroom. I showered, and got dressed, before making my way down the hill to Noelle’s house.
