CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

(Lucy’s POV) "BE my mate." My grip on Cria's waist tightened while we're accelerating in the middle of a dark and long road leading to the municipality of DarkStone. "Be my mate, sweet," he repeated. I pretended I didn't hear anything and maybe it was just my hearing that's fooling me. I mean, although he's freaking mysterious and I knew nothing about him yet, for me, Cria is a nice guy. He's gorgeous and has a mouth-watering physique that could capture any she-wolf's heart. He's also warm and he smells good. Almost perfect! But... there's one problem. My heart is already taken. Biting my lower lip, I sough deeply. I already have a special someone that I am desiring for years. The man who I had chatted with over a cup of coffee yesterday. Though I'm aware that an Omega like me can't be noticed by him for he's the goddamn Alpha of our pack, still, it's not easy to throw away my feelings just because of someone I just met a few days ago. 'Lies!' Sky suddenly snapped at me which made me crouched. 'How about you explain to me why your heart is beating like you're in a marathon?' I mentally huffed at her. 'Your imagining things, wolf.' Is she telling me that I'm falling for Cria? I rolled my eyes and pressed my body more to the man in front of me which made me purred as he felt incredibly soothing. 'You're talking nonsense.' Stifling a yawn, I continued debating with my wolf. 'My heart is beating normal and- My words were abruptly cut when Cria suddenly hit the break of the big bike sending my face crashed into his shoulder. "Ouch! What the heck, dude!" I growled and cupped my nose which might have been broken from the impact. "Goddess! Are you really mad at me for accusing you of stealing earlier? I already said sorry, didn't I?" I vexed. Or is he mad because I don't want to accept his proposal? Cria didn't respond though. Instead, his back muscles went taut while looking ahead making me turned silent in bafflement. Frowning, I followed his gazes only to gasp in alarm. Few feet away from us, a car with its headlights on was blocking our way. Three men in suits were outside the vehicle together with the woman whom I perceived as my stepmother; Selene Callahan. Seemed like they've been there for a few minutes already. Patiently, waiting for us. "Cria." I breathed frantically and clutched the sides of his jacket feeling something cold wrapped around my whole being. "They found us. What are we going to do now?" I asked and began trembling in panic. "Relax, sweet," finally Cria spoke in a low tranquil voice before he pulled his jacket off my hands. "Stay here." With the engine still on, he booted the stand down and hopped off the big bike. My eyes broadened as he took paces towards those men and Aunt Selene. "Cria, what are you doing!" I called out for him. "Come back here!" I don't know what he's thinking and planning to do but one thing I'm sure of, he's going to get himself killed if he's to face those men alone. "Cria! Please come back here!" I pleaded with him but he's didn't listen so I just mentally uttered a prayer. 'Oh, Moon Goddess!' Please, tell that i***t to stop whatever heroic act he's going to pull off! Heck! He's going to kill me in distress! ______ "HOW dare you took my stepdaughter away, young man!" Aunt Selene rasped at Cria when he was a scarce hairsbreadth away from them which made me winced and bit my nails. My savior halted and retorted, "I believe that your daughter came with me in her own will, madam." Aunt Selene who's still wearing her night robe pushed herself from leaning on the car's side and walked towards him with a grim face. "You have the decency of talking back to someone who's in a higher level than you. Do you know what punishment you can get for being too bold, you piece of trash?" She stopped in front of my savior and gave him a menacing glare. Surprisingly, that didn't work on Cria as he didn't even flinch from my stepmother's threat. "My sincere apology if I somewhat appear audacious, madam," he said in a clear yet non-apologetic voice and slightly bowed his head. "But the punishment could only bestow to those who force someone particularly a woman to marry a man thrice her age and against her will." "You don't know anything so shut the hell up!" With her eyes squinting and her face flushing bright red in anger, Aunt Selene barred her teeth at Cria and then looked back to those men behind her. "What are you waiting for? It's getting late already! Take my stepdaughter back to the ranch now!" The men in suits instantly moved forward but Cria let out a low full of warning grumble. "Try to touch her and you're all dead meat." I gasped horrifically. "No!" I quickly hopped down the big bike and ran towards them. "No, no, no, Aunt Selene!" I cried out. "Please, don't hurt my friend! It is my fault!" with tears forming in my eyes, I faced Cria and with shivering hands, I held both sides of his shoulders to calm him. "I'll be alright, Cria. I'm sorry for dragging you into this mess but it's alright now. I'll go with them back to the ranch." I looked directly into his eyes to send the message that I don't want anything bad to happen to him just because he wants to save me. He's the only one that I have at that moment and I don't want to put his safety at risk. Nevertheless, he only stared at me with unreadable emotion on his face which made me want to smack his head. How could he be so stubborn? Is he even paying attention to what I was saying? I heard Aunt Selene huffed behind me before she compelled Cria again. "Do not go near my stepdaughter again or I'll report you to the officials, you rascal!" She was about to grab my arm and drag me to the car but I was beyond shocked when Cria quickly tugged me behind him and stepped in front of me. "How about you go back to the f*****g big bike, Lucy?" he bellowed in a dangerously intense reverberating voice that was far from what he's usually using, which made me jerked in surprise and my stepmother and the men in suits stepped back. "You think I'll let you have her?" His fists clenched tightly and his voice became direr as he stalked forward. "Come and get my sweet cake if you can, mutts!" Again, I was stupefied. The i***t! How can he be a badass and a fool at the same time! Oh, Moon Goddess! How I want to choke him!
