CHAPTER FOUR

Woww! It's changed so much. My home, nothing could ever make me forget the memories around this place. Even though it looked different now, the familiarity stuck. I rubbed my hands vigorously to get rid of the goosebumps that had wrapped me. Hehe. Now I see why father never sent any letters. The staircase had been remodeled into a glossy beige that led to two small separate staircases on either side to get to the top floor. A sparkling crystal chandelier was suspended from the center of the staircase and small spotlights lit up the rest of the ceiling, giving it a nice, elegant look. I mentally scoffed but forced myself to think of the good times. The twelve years that I stayed here were amazing because I had Cara and Michael. We had gone out of the house now approaching what seemed to be a garden and Oh My! I was dazzled. The garden was vast and resplendent, with a majestic peacock strutting proudly among the vibrant flowers. Gentle deer grazed peacefully alongside playful rabbits, and a few majestic swans glided across the garden's serene pond, completing the enchanting scenery. We walked through the French doors to the gardens outside down a stony path that twisted around the corner to the house's right side. I enjoyed the view of the gorgeous flowers and plants of different colors on either side of the path. Gosh! I felt like a princess walking in an enchanted garden. I imagined how overwhelmed the gardener must have been. We always had rumors about how Mafias would end up breaking the fingers of an employee if they don't do a job to satisfy the boss. Since we were still out of sight from the other party guests, I halted in my steps just before we rounded the corner to join the party. "Ouch!” I turned my head swifty to look at Marcel and just then, I realized I had been holding his hand throughout the walk and just as we approached the party, I kept growing nervous and wouldn't stop squeezing his hand. “Oh! I'm so sorry. It's just t_” “I know, I know. Just hold my hands and take deep breaths” He said and held my hands, the smile he gave me made my heart melt. I felt relieved that I had someone I could attend this party with but no amount of soothing words could calm my nerves, it kept on building. Just looking at that garden, I thought I had seen it all but as we approached, my jaw dropped. There was a massive wooden door just in front of us, it was decorated with grasses and pines, with colourful flowers popping out of it all, and when he touched the door, it opened up by itself revealing a big open space. The gardener is a fairy. I am convinced! I said to myself just staring at the space, there were huge trees all over the space and it was dressed with strings of flowers and lights floating above the ceiling. The tables were also wooden but they looked exquisite, there was something about the table cloths that made me act like a child. It was a piece of clothing that had grasses all over it, as though the gardener had picked grasses one at a time and sewn them directly into the clothing. The legs of the table looked as if it had sparkling lights all over it. “D*mn!” “Right! Wait till you see the wedding arena” Marcel said, reaching for a piece of cake from the table. He offered me some with his mouth stuffed. He looked handsome. He was Perfect. “I'll go grab something over there.” I motioned, pointing to the tower of glasses at the end of the table. For some reason, I felt like drinking alcohol. Each time I thought of the people I would meet here at this party, I grew nervous. So yeah, those drinks would definitely help. Well, one thing I didn't realize was that going over there to get drinks also meant I would be alone. Sh*t Well maybe this was the perfect time to escape from this entanglement. I knew in a short time, I would come to face people I haven't seen in years. My stomach wouldn't stop tying a knot. I found myself stretching my neck to see if I could find Cara before she sees me. And for some reason, I realized that there were actual people in here! I stopped looking for Cara and just admired everyone. They were all beautiful and handsome. Like princes and princesses coming to a ball, each person I looked at or admired would in return throw me a taunting look, as if to say “You look like a peasant.” I felt uncomfortable and slightly irritated with those looks being thrown at me. The men would look at me from head to toe, and Thier eyes would rest on my cleavages for a moment. Look at them! The woman had hair like Rapunzel and the men looked neat. And me? I felt like a grass in the midst of flowers. Unwanted. I really needed to find Cara, my body language made it obvious that I wanted to go home. I couldn't stop moving my head, walking in short distances, as I gave some awkward smiles to the people who looked at me. Who is that?! If you were like me, looking around like that, you were sure to catch a glimpse of someone that hot and intimidating. I instantly became unaware of my environment as I kept on staring at the figure. Everyone could see that I was staring at something or someone. He's gorgeous. Breathtaking, actually. His black dress pants showed off his strong legs, and a black dress shirt that clung to his body, so mouthwatering. It was slightly unbuttoned, exposing some of his chest. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, which showed off his heavily tattooed arms. His dark hair, short on the sides, and longer on the top was styled perfectly. This man was the embodiment of perfection. My gaze moved from his feet to his face, tracing his body along the way. His presence enthralled me, so much I couldn't help but keep my gaze on him for a moment longer. He was a tall man, smoking a cigarette, and even from a distance, I could feel the immense power radiating from him. I was intrigued. He c****d his head to the side as he studied me. He pinned me with his gaze, and his face remained completely emotionless. His eyes were intensely focused on me, and I felt like I was in a trance, unable to look away as we remained locked in a stare from afar. "Fancy him?” Michael abruptly appeared in front of me, taking me by surprise, and obstructing my view of the man. "You know, staring at people like that is rude” He stated, as he handed me a drink. "Ewww” I breathed out and blinked at him, confused. "No, I don't …I mean I was just…I think…. Where is Cara?’ I gave a soft chuckle at his exaggeration and raised a brow at him. "Haven't seen but I'm sure that's not Cara.” Michael gave me a stern look, making it clear that this was not a joke. I looked at him with wide eyes, suddenly feeling scared that the man would shoot me because I took my time to look at him. Is that jealousy I smell? "Hey! Tha was mean.” I spoke in a hurry, hitting his shoulder with my left palm. he was truly too beautiful not to look at. Michael let out a small snort. "Just kidding. But that guy over there is actually the most dangerous and he could hurt you just for looking at him like that” “Wait. Like how?” I burst into laughter, almost choking on my drink as Marcel demonstrated the way I looked at the guy. He demonstrated what seemed to be a mean face, as if I was getting ready to hit him or something. We laughed for a minute before taking another sip. But who was that guy?
