WHAT IS POVERTY
POVERTY, the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions.
Poverty is said to exist when people lack the means to satisfy their basic needs. In this context, the identification of poor people first requires a determination of what constitutes basic needs.
Poverty describes a condition or state of being unable to meet one's needs due to financial circumstances. Poverty has existed for all of known human history, and there are numerous theories as to why poverty exists and why certain individuals are in poverty.
Poverty is a condition or state that describes a lack of financial means to either meet one's basic needs or attain a quality of life much beyond basic needs.
There are four kinds of poverty typically discussed: absolute, relative, situational, and generational.
SHORT STORY RELATED TO POVERTY
Once upon a time in the mystical land of Fantasia, there lived two sisters named Laide and Bolade. They were polar opposites in every way imaginable. Laide was born into a life of luxury and abundance, while Bolade was born into abject poverty and hardship.
Laide lived in a grand castle with servants catering to her every whim. She wore the finest silk gowns and jewels that sparkled like stars in the night sky. She spent her days lounging in the sun, attending lavish feasts, and dancing the night away at extravagant balls. Life seemed like a never-ending dream for Laide.
On the other hand, Bolade lived in a tattered shack on the outskirts of the kingdom. She barely had enough to eat and was constantly struggling to survive. Her clothes were threadbare, her shoes worn out, and her eyes reflected the pain and suffering she endured every day. Despite her hardships, Bolade remained resilient and hopeful, dreaming of a better life for herself.
One fateful day, a powerful sorceress visited the kingdom of Fantasia. She was known for her ability to grant wishes to those in need. Laide, ever curious and always wanting more, sought out the sorceress and asked for unlimited wealth and power. The sorceress granted her wish, but with a warning: be careful what you wish for.
Laide's life changed overnight. She found herself surrounded by even greater luxury and splendor. Her riches multiplied, her power expanded, and she became the envy of all who knew her. However, as time went on, Laide realized that her wealth had come at a great cost. She became consumed by greed and arrogance, turning her back on those who once cared for her.
Meanwhile, Bolade watched from afar as her sister's fortunes grew. Despite her own struggles, she remained humble and kind-hearted, never losing sight of what truly mattered in life. She prayed to the sorceress for a chance to change her fate, hoping for a better future.
The sorceress heard Bolade's plea and appeared before her one moonlit night. She offered Bolade a simple choice: to trade places with her sister and experience life in the lap of luxury, or to continue on her current path of poverty and hardship. Bolade hesitated at first, torn between her desire for a better life and her fear of losing herself in the process.
In the end, Bolade chose to switch places with her sister. The sorceress granted her wish, and Bolade found herself living in the grand castle once occupied by Laide. At first, she was enamored by the opulence and extravagance surrounding her. But as days turned into weeks, Bolade began to feel a sense of emptiness and longing in her heart.
She missed the simplicity of her old life, the warmth of the sun on her face, the laughter of children playing in the streets. She missed the feeling of belonging, of being a part of something greater than herself. And most of all, she missed her sister, who had vanished without a trace.
As Bolade searched for Laide, she discovered that her sister had been consumed by her own greed and vanity. She had become a prisoner of her own making, trapped in a world of illusions and false promises. Bolade realized the true meaning of poverty was not in the lack of material wealth, but in the absence of love and compassion.
Determined to set things right, Bolade sought out the sorceress once again and begged for her sister's forgiveness. The sorceress, moved by Bolade's sincerity and selflessness, granted her one final wish: to bring Laide back from the depths of despair and restore balance to their world.
And so, Laide and Bolade were reunited at last, their hearts full of love and gratitude. They embraced each other, knowing that true wealth lay not in gold or jewels, but in the bonds of family and the strength of their spirits. Together, they vowed to live their lives with kindness, humility, and grace, spreading joy and hope to all who crossed their path in the enchanted land of Fantasia. And they lived happily ever after.

THE WICKED LANDLORD DID TO TENANT WIFE.
Once upon a time in Lagos State, Nigeria, there lived a poor talent someone named Uju, who was married to a man named Mr. Adebola. The couple had been struggling financially, and Mr. Adebola had fallen behind on their house rent payments to their wicked landlord.
One day, the landlord came knocking on their door while Uju was home alone. It was Thursday, and the market clean up was underway, so the neighborhood was bustling with activity. The landlord, a devious and conniving man, demanded to know where her husband was and asked for the overdue rent.
Uju, a beautiful and timid woman, tried to explain that her husband was traveling to get the money, but the landlord was not interested in her excuses. He insisted on being paid immediately and threatened to evict them if they did not comply.
Desperate to buy some time, Uju tried to reason with the landlord, but he was adamant and refused to listen. He then made a vile proposition to Uju – he offered her a large sum of money in exchange for seeing her naked.
At first, Uju was appalled and refused the landlord's indecent proposal. But when he raised the amount of money he was willing to pay, Uju, who was desperate to help her family, reluctantly agreed to the landlord's twisted request.
With a heavy heart and a sense of shame, Uju undressed in front of the landlord, who leered at her naked body. She felt violated and humiliated, but she knew that she had no other choice if she wanted to keep a roof over her family's head.
After the landlord had his fill of Uju's nakedness, he left the house, leaving behind a broken and distraught woman. Uju felt dirty and tainted, as if a part of her soul had been ripped away by the landlord's wickedness.
Meanwhile, Mr. Adebola, unaware of what had transpired between his wife and the landlord, called to inform Uju that he had mistakenly sent a double p*****t for their rent. The landlord, seizing the opportunity to exploit the situation further, lied to Mr. Adebola and told him that he had retransferred the money to his wife.
Uju, now burdened by the weight of her secret shame, felt even more trapped in a web of deceit and manipulation. Every time she saw the landlord, she was filled with a deep sense of unease and humiliation, knowing that he had seen her at her most vulnerable and exposed.
As days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months, Uju struggled to cope with the emotional fallout of her encounter with the landlord. She felt like a piece of her had been taken from her, and she could never fully recover from the violation she had experienced.
In the end, Uju and Mr. Adebola were able to move out of their rented house and find a new place to live. But the scars of their encounter with the wicked landlord would always remain, haunting Uju and reminding her of the dark side of humanity that lurked beneath the surface of their seemingly ordinary lives.
And so, the tale of Uju and the wicked landlord became a cautionary one, a reminder of the dangers that could befall those who are vulnerable and desperate in a world where greed and cruelty reign supreme.
WHAT IS ABSOLUTELY POVERTY?
The term absolute poverty is one that reflects many of the characteristics of poverty that typically come to mind when people describe poverty in a general sense. Absolute poverty is defined as the inability of one to meet basic needs (food, shelter, etc.) due to a lack of financial resources. A person in absolute poverty may lack clean and safe drinking water, sufficient and nutritious food, and a safe place to live.
This is related to extreme poverty, long defined in the international community as a form of poverty where one possesses less than $2.15 (US dollars) per day for all of their needs.
This model is critiqued for its lack of consideration of the quality of life in combatting poverty. For instance, even if basic needs are met, one may not be living a life that feels fulfilling.
WHAT IS SITUATIONAL POVERTY?
Another form of poverty is situational poverty. Situational poverty is defined by the assumption that it is temporary, given that it is caused by a specific set of circumstances like divorce, the death of a loved one, a serious illness, etc. One or more factors contribute to a severe decline in the income of a household, but there is often the hope of recovery.
An instance that at first appears to be situational poverty can, however, expose people to the beginning of a cycle into poverty beyond this singular situation. Likewise, one experiencing situational poverty is still likely to experience at least some of the negative consequences of poverty on one's health, finances, and other aspects of life.
What are examples of poverty?
This is a duplicate question that I am asking the in-house team to remove. Please ignore this answer and this question.
What are examples of poverty?
One example of poverty is situational poverty, in which specific circumstances lead to temporary poverty. An instance where someone experiences situational poverty might be, for example, someone who finds themselves with much less income than they are used to as a result of a divorce. While the drastic decrease leads to a period of difficulty, they know they can recover with some adjustments.
What are the different types of poverty?
There are four types of poverty typically discussed: absolute, relative, situational, and generational. Absolute and relative forms of poverty are most commonly addressed on larger scales, while situational and generational forms tend to be discussed in social services on a more local scale.

In the land of Lagos State, Nigeria, there existed a deep-rooted feud between two neighbors, Ademola and Wole. They had been friends once, but something had driven them apart, something mysterious and unspoken. It was as if a veil of lies and deceit had settled between them, casting a shadow over their once close relationship.
Ademola was a proud and strong man, known for his honesty and integrity. He ran a successful farm on the outskirts of the village, and was well respected by all who knew him. Wole, on the other hand, was a cunning and sly man, always looking for ways to gain an advantage over others. He was a skilled trader, but his reputation for deceitfulness preceded him wherever he went.
One day, as Ademola tended to his crops in the sweltering heat, he overheard a group of villagers whispering amongst themselves. They spoke of rumors and lies, of betrayal and treachery. Ademola's heart sank as he realized that they were talking about him and Wole. It seemed that Wole had been spreading malicious gossip about Ademola, trying to tarnish his reputation and turn the village against him.
Enraged, Ademola confronted Wole, demanding to know why he had been spreading lies about him. Wole smirked and shrugged his shoulders, denying any wrongdoing. But Ademola could see the deceit in his eyes, the flicker of guilt that betrayed him.
Determined to distance himself from those who lied and schemed, Ademola decided to take matters into his own hands. He knew that he could no longer trust Wole, that their friendship was beyond repair. And so, he made a bold decision – to banish Wole from the village and cut all ties with him forever.
As word of Ademola's decision spread throughout the village, the people were shocked. They had never seen such a public display of discord between neighbors, and many were torn between loyalty to Ademola and sympathy for Wole. But Ademola stood firm in his resolve, refusing to back down or compromise his principles.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Ademola carried on with his life, working hard on his farm and tending to his animals. But he couldn't shake the feeling of unease that lingered in the air, the sense that something was still not right between him and Wole.
One night, as Ademola lay in bed, a strange dream came to him. He found himself walking through a dense forest, the trees towering overhead and the branches twisting and turning like serpents. In the distance, he could see a figure standing in the shadows, beckoning him closer.
As Ademola drew near, he realized that it was Wole, his former friend and neighbor. But Wole looked different somehow, his eyes filled with sadness and regret. He reached out a hand to Ademola, whispering words of apology and reconciliation.
Ademola hesitated, unsure of what to do. Could he forgive Wole for his lies and deception, for the pain and suffering he had caused? Or was it too late to mend the rift that had grown between them?
In the end, Ademola made a choice – a choice to forgive, to let go of the past and embrace a new future. He reached out and clasped Wole's hand, feeling a sense of peace and closure wash over him.
When he awoke the next morning, the sun was shining brightly through the window, casting a warm glow over the room. Ademola knew that he had made the right decision, that he had freed himself from the burden of anger and resentment that had weighed him down for so long.
From that day on, Ademola and Wole worked side by side, rebuilding their friendship and trust one step at a time. The people of the village were amazed at the change they saw in the two men, the way they had put aside their differences and come together as brothers once more.
And so, in the land of Lagos State, Nigeria, a tale of forgiveness and redemption was born – a tale of two men who had once been enemies, but who had found a way to distance themselves from the lies and deceit that had threatened to tear them apart. And in the end, they emerged stronger and wiser, bound together by a bond that could never be broken.
