Karina's POV
"Karina, Karina wake up." My little brother shook me. I was sleeping so peacefully I didn't want to be disturbed.
"Karina wake up, you're gonna be late." He said. That's all he needed to say. I woke up instantly.
"Mom is with the new guy downstairs, I've already made the first batch of Muffins, can you get up so that I can get ready for school?" He said.
I took a look at the clock and it was seven o'clock in the morning. I slept longer than I thought. I have never been this late.
"Flip, I'm late." I said and ran to the bathroom to take a shower. I quickly brushed my teeth and got dressed.
I was ready and done in twenty minutes. I can only imagine the line outside. People who are waiting.
"How's the line downstairs?" I asked as I put on my chef's coat. Well it was my father's, now it's mine.
"It's going okay, the new guy is doing okay." Martin said.
"What new guy?" I asked putting my chef's hat on.
"Mom told you that he hired a new guy to help us out, I made the first batch of muffins and he made pancakes, sis they're flying off the shelf." He said.
"He just showed up and he has already taken over my kitchen." I mumbled under my breathe as I made my way downstairs.
"A stack of pancakes and blue berry muffins for table six." He said as he pushed the plates forward.
I stood by the door and watched him in his element. The way he mixed the pancakes batter. When he decorated them.
I must hand it to God, he sure took his time making this master piece. This man was gorgeous. Tall and broad, he was confident and I found that very sexy.
I think I like this guy, the first guy I like and I have to work with him. I hope I don't get awkward around him. I don't want it to get weird.
"We have an order for pouched eggs and bacon with toast for table four." my mother said and went back out.
I watched him as he prepared the other orders. I mean he was doing three people's jobs at once and he was killing it.
"Hey..." I said as I walked out.
"Good morning, oh, we're almost out of muffins." He said.
"I'll get started on them." I said.
I went to the cabinets and started off with my ingredients. I didn't want to disturb him. I moved to the other side of the kitchen and started on my muffins batter.
"That smells wonderful chef." He said.
"Thank you Chef, they're my specialty." I said with a smile.
I watched him as he made breakfast orders, real breakfast orders and I got jealous a bit. There was still people buying muffins but not as fast as they usually do.
This guy had skills and by the look of things people love his food. For the first time we served breakfast until eleven o'clock.
By the time we we reached lunch time the both of us were working on the Mac and cheese, which is our best lunch seller in the restaurant during lunch time.
"Now I see why this is the best in town." Theon out new chef said. "I usually add a little cream but I think I'll start using different types of cheese in the future." He said.
"Well I'm glad you showed me how to prepare scallops and shrimp cocktail, I think I'll try it tonight." I said.
"Good, I'll be here every step of the way, you should go for a break, I'll do the dishes." He said.
True to his word Sean kept his promise, he was with me every step of the way. I found that I enjoyed working with him.
When the clock hit nine in the evening, he insisted I take a break and he stayed on to finish up. It was the first time in ages I went to the apartment at this time.
I went up and had a bath. I had already had some food so I wasn't hungry. I found that I like working with Sean.
The following day I woke up to find that my mother had introduced him to our suppliers, he was now the one in charge of meeting up with them in the mornings.
My job in the morning was to prepare my muffins. Sean did the real breakfast and the chemistry between us was good.
I loved that he didn't change things, instead he added on. I really didn't get Sean, I mean he looked like he was doing well for himself, why come and work here?
I mean the guy is driving a Mustang, he wears expensive clothes, he probably lives in a huge house, I don't know what the hell he is doing here.
After a week, we had a routine of our in the kitchen. Everyone knew their job and we all did it well, we were in sync.
"Why does it have to be this hard?." Martin said as he entered the he kitchen and threw his backpack under the table. He seemed a bit off.
"How was school?" I asked as I wiped the surfaces. Since it was the two of us, things were moving faster than usual. Although we had traffic, people didn't wait too long for their orders.
"It was okay." He said and started to pack dishes into the sink.
"Oookay... Did anything happen?" I asked.
"No, school was good." He said.
"I think he has girl problems, I think I'll take a break now." Sean said and walked out.
"Do I have to worry about your school?" I asked.
"No, I'm focused sis, I promise you, it's just Phoebe hasn't been returning my calls." He said.
"okay, but don't you guys go to the same school?" I asked.
"That's the thing, she didn't even show up at school today. Her phone has been off all day." He said with a sad face. My heart was breaking for him.
I can tell that he really likes this girl and it sucks that this girl would just ghost on her like this. I haven't been able to do anything for my little brother lately.
I haven't even been going to his games. Perhaps I could do something for him now.
"Do you guys have any homework?" I asked my brother.
"Really sis? I'm telling you about my girlfriend and you're asking about homework? I told you that school is good." he said.
"I know you said that school is good. You obviously can't go to her place but if you have homework, I can take it there and find out what's wrong?" I asked.
"Would you really? " He asked.
"Of course, you're my little brother, I'll do anything for you." I said.
"But you have to start preparing for dinner in an hour." he said.
"Yes and since I now have help, I think we're gonna be fine." I said.
"Okay then." He said with a smile and went to get the homework.
"Her house number is already programmed in the car, you'll be fine, her name is Phoebe." He said.
"Alright then..." I said and went upstairs to change. I took off my chef's coat and wore a jean jacket instead. I took the car keys and went downstairs.
I could have gone out the back but I had to tell my mother I was leaving, I didn't want her to get worried when she didn't find me in the kitchen.
I must say that the restaurant was doing good. It was packed. I searched for my mother and I found her talking to some guys.
She looked like she was having fun. The thin one said something and my mother laughed.
"Thomas you're the worst." She said and they all laughed.
"It's true Mrs H." The thin one said. I'm guessing that's Thomas.
I went over to the table. I looked at the guys and they were handsome. They both had an accent. I'm guessing this were my mother's big tippers. I gently touched my mother's shoulder.
"Excuse me gentleman, can I have a moment." I said to my mother.
"Oh perfect. This is my daughter Karina, the one I was telling you about, baby this is Brandon and Thomas." She said.
"Good to meet you my lady, I love your cookies.. oh I mean that your Muffins are delicious." Thomas said with a huge smile.
" I must admit, they're really something special. My grandmother can't wait to taste them." Brandon said.
"Oh, that's nice... I promise to have them ready for you tomorrow morning." I said with a smile.
"Mom... a minute..." I said.
"Okay, excuse me boys." She said and stepped away a bit.
"What is it?" My mother asked.
"I'm going out for a bit, I'll be back soon." I said.
"Going out? You never go out?" My mother said with a bit of a shock.
"Now that Sean is here, I have more time for myself." I said.
"Okay fine just be back soon, that poor boy works hard." She said.
"I don't know of he's poor, have you seen his car? anyways I'll be back soon." I said and left.
I went to the car and searched for my younger brother's girlfriend address, I found it and drove to her place.
I was impressed, this girls lived in the nicest part of town. I couldn't believe it when I saw her house. It was huge. I can only wonder how many rooms are in there.
There was guards at the gate. Okay now this is a bit too serious. At this point I felt like turning away. I couldn't do that since I made a promise to Martin.
I got at the gate and one of the security guards came to the car.
"I'm here for Phoebe, I have her homework here." I said to the gentleman.
"We have someone here for young miss Taylor." The guy said on the the microphone hanging from his ear.
What the hell did my brother get me into? Who was this girl? Why would a girl living here go to public school? I mean she should be living it up somewhere at some private school.
"Who are you again?" He asked.
"I'm her classmate's sister, I have her homework." I said.
"She said she brought homework." the guy said.
"Okay." He said and they opened the gates for me to go.
I felt so out of place being in this place. The house was huge and the cars parked out front didn't make things any better. Our rundown car was so out of place.
I got out of the car and went to the door. I was about to ring a doorbell when someone came out. It was a young woman.
She was pretty, I could tell. I just think that this isn't her best day because she's still in pyjamas.
"Hi, I'm Phoebe, you must be Karina." She said with a smile.
"okay this is weird... how do you know that?" I asked.
"I saw the video, your brother told me about you." She said.
"Oh that, anyways my brother send me to give you this." I said and handed her the homework.
"Thank you. Please tell him that I lost my phone." she said.
"Oh, okay I'll do that." I said.
"I'd use the laptop but it's monitored, thanks for the homework, would you like to come in?" she said.
"Oh no, I have to go back, he was wondering why you didn't show up to school, are you sick?" I asked.
"Yeah I had this stomach bug in the morning but I'm fine now, I'll be back at school tomorrow." she said.
"Alright then, I'll let him know." I said.
"Thanks again." she said.
"It's only a pleasure." I said and walked back to the car.
I drove out and went back home. I didn't go through the restaurant but I got in through the back entrance.
Sean was already busy. My brother was helping. I can see that he enjoyed doing this. He saw me and looked at my hands, he smiled when he saw them empty.
Sean went out with a handful of plates.I washed my hands and put on an apron. I took off a slip on the counter and started on the order.
"So how did it go?" he asked.
"What does your girlfriend's parent's do?" I asked.
"Oh, they're politicians. He father is running for president." He said cooly.
"What? and you didn't think to tell me that before I offered to go there? " I asked.
"I didn't think it matters, it doesn't to me." He said.
"Okay fine, she said to tell you that she lost her phone and that she was sick, she'll be in school tomorrow though." I said and saw his face brighten up. He really likes this girl.
It's sweet but it also scares me a little. He should be focused on school. I mean I think that he is falling hard.
"Okay, thanks for doing this sis." He said.
"Alright, can you pass me the pepper?" I asked.
"Coming right up." He said with enthusiasm and handed me the cup.
Sean came back to the kitchen with a smile on his face.
"Chef, I need more of that home made pasta." Sean said.
"coming right up." I said.
I got the Pasta out and gave it to him.
"We are not too busy tonight." He said.
"Yeah Tuesday's are like this, atleast we get to close early for a change." I said.
"Yeah, we can... what are doing later?" he asked
"Was gonna catch up on a Netflix series." I said.
"Wanna go out for a drink?" He asked.
Sean is handsome and I have been crushing on him for days. My brother thinks that we'd make a cute couple, I suppose I could give it a shot.
"Alright, I must be home by midnight but I must warn you, I'm not much of a drinker. I said.
"Alright then." He said with a smile.
We continued with work and by God's grace, the last customers were walking out the door by eight in the evening.
"I better go get ready." I said to Sean.
"Alright beautiful, I'll be back in an hour." he said and left the kitchen.
I went upstairs and went to the bathroom to take a quick shower. I haven't been this excited since my prom. I mean that was basically the last time I dolled myself up.
I had a shower and went to my bedroom. I opened my small closet and I realised that I had nothing to wear.
I didn't even know where we were going. I stood there and starred at the closet. I then remembered that I still had the dress I wore to graduation.
It had only been worn once and it was sitting right there at the back of my closet. I had completely forgotten about it.
It's a red bodycon dress with thin straps. It had a small patent leather belt. It went right above my knees.
I went to my closet and found my black patent Louis Vuitton flats and wore them. I don't wear heels, I've always hated them.
"Going somewhere?" My mother asked me. She was standing on my doorway looking at me.
"Yes, I'm going out for drinks." I said with a smile.
"You have a date?" She asked.
"Looks like that." I said with a smile.
