I wake to find myself alone. There’s a pot near the fire with food in it to keep it warm, an empty bowl next to it. I smile, dressing quickly and eating the food he left for me. I step outside the house and find my husband near the sea at a large pot over a huge fire. I walk over, placing my arm around him as he watches… whatever this is. “Salt,” he explains simply and I realize, THIS is how it’s done. “The fire gets rid of the water, but the salt remains. It takes a long time, though.” “That’s amazing,” I tell him with a smile. “I will make a lot,” he tells me. “We have the time since we only have beans growing and we will need to trade for things for the winter.” I smile at him, leaning my head into him. “That’s a wonderful plan.
