Chapter 3The unicorn died. Despite the best efforts of Paul, Daniel, and the rest of the research team from the university coming to her aid in the moments after she had been put to sleep, her injuries were too advanced. Someone had sliced the creature in the stomach before she had burst through the woods surrounding the school; impossible to tell at first who or what had done the most damage, though, since Daniel confirmed what Paul had also suspected: the unicorn had given birth shortly before the whole ordeal began. And in the clean-up efforts that expanded on through the afternoon and into the evening, no one had found those unicorn foals. “I want to have her body sent to a lab,” Daniel said as evening approached and he lingered in the police station, giving his statement.
