CHAPTER 23 Once inside Providence, Kennedy followed Willow, wondering what to expect when she got up to Carl’s floor. Last she heard, he was in the ICU. Would the hospital staff even let them in to visit? On the way up in the elevator, Kennedy broke the strained silence. “I’m sorry I got so upset in the car. You know I wasn’t mad at you, right?” Willow rubbed her back. “Of course. Hey, I’m just glad to see you standing up for yourself every once in a while. It’s been a long time coming.” Kennedy didn’t reply. Willow’s phone beeped, and she reached into her purse. “Oh, that’s Nick.” She stared at her screen. “I guess he can’t make the prayer meeting.
