I got home from my stressful and surprising day at work exhausted. I took a shower and quickly began to make dinner for Tyson so he would have something to eat when his father dropped him home.
By 10 pm, I had finished making dinner two hours ago and I was beyond furious. Finally, when the door knocked, I ran to open it, relieved to see Preston holding a sleepy Tyson in his arms. I led them into his bedroom and watched as he placed him on the bed. When the door was safely closed and we were out of hearing distance, I turned to Preston.
"Where the hell were you? It's way passed his bedtime."
"Not tonight Katherine, I'm his father and his actual parent, not you."
"And I'm his f*****g guardian. If you can't bring him back at the time we discussed, you will not see him." I fumed.
"Don't start with me" he pressed as he walked back to the door opening it. I hadn't noticed his girlfriend standing outside.
"Why are you allowing her to threaten you baby?" She asked looking at him. She was a cowardly b***h. She always had something to say but could never look you in the eye and say it.
"Dana, keep your mouth shut. This does not concern you. I am his aunt and you are just f*****g his father" I spat at her.
"You are always so hostile. This is why I want to take my son from you; I don't want him to turn out this way." Preston accused as he walked out my apartment.
"I want to see you try. I've been caring for him for three years and up until then, I haven't received any help from you" I pointed to him and then his girl friend "or you. Now until I allow you to see him again, don't come to my house or I will call the cops" I slammed the door in their faces.
I was livid. How dare Dana open her mouth after what she and Preston put my sister through, when she found out she was pregnant with Tyson. Dana was her best friend who was sleeping around with Preston when he got Lauren pregnant. What did the bastard do when she told him she was carrying his baby? He ran away with Dana and never ever once sent a check to help with the medical bills or come to see Tyson when he was born. Father my ass.
I sat down on the couch exhausted. Even though I wanted to head to bed and call it a night, I knew Tyson would be waking us soon asking for something to eat. Thirty minutes into the night, I heard footsteps.
I turned and smiled at him as I got up from the couch. I picked him up into my arms and carried him over to the counter.
"Are you hungry?" I asked soothingly. He nodded his head as he continued to rub his eyes sleepily. "Good cause I made your favorite."
"Hamburger and fries?" he asked in disbelief. I chuckled and nodded my head. He knew I didn't really allow this on a regular basis, but since I missed him so much, I happily whipped it up. I placed him on the chair at the dining table and retrieved his plate of food from the microwave.
"Thank you mama" he smiled as I placed the plate and a glass of orange juice in front of him.
"You're welcome baby."
I have had him since he was three years old and now he was six. After months of correcting him and telling to call me aunty, I gave up. I didn't want him to feel as if I was rejecting him in anyway. Tyson was probably the only child I will have in my life, so I was more than pleased to see that he wanted me in his life as much as I wanted him in mine.
I waited until he finished and then cleaned up after him. When I was finished with dishes, we curled up on the couch and watched the television until he was out like a light.
======
I stared into the mirror as I fought my contacts in my eyes. I promised Tyson that I was going to bring him to the new water park that opened up today. I had on my one piece under my mini shorts and a large t-shirt.
"Mama let's go!" Tyson bellowed impatiently outside the washroom.
"Did you pack your sunscreen?" I asked as I quickly pulled my hair back into a ponytail.
"Yes!" He whined. A knock came at my door and I heard Tyson run to open it. I hurried out of the washroom to stop him before he let someone into the house that wasn't suppose to enter.
"Tyson how many times do I have to tell you not to open the door without permission" I bellowed as I ran down the hallway.
Green eyes met mine. I stood in shock wondering how the hell he got to my house. "How do you know where I live?" I asked hesitantly. He was wearing a white polo shirt and khakis. He looked so good, you could eat him.
"Who are you?" Tyson questioned as he folded his arms over his chest.
He completely ignored my question but stooped down to Tyson's level with his hand stretched out. "I'm Cameron, Katherine's friend."
Tyson took his hand as if he was a grown man and raised his chin high. "Nice to meet you."
I smiled at their interaction but quickly snapped out of it. "Tyson go use the washroom before we leave please." I instructed sternly. He hurried out of the room and I turned my attention back to Mr. Richards. "You never answered my question, how the hell did you get my address?"
"Nice to see you too." He smirked as he walked towards be, placing a soft kiss on my lips. I leaning into his body much more than I wanted to as I melted from his kiss. Before I realized what I was doing, I nibbled on his lower lip slowly as our tongue flicked against each others.
"I see you've missed me as well" He smiled down at me. I barely reached his shoulders at 5'4 as he stood above 6 feet. I broke away from him and tried to gather my scattered thoughts. After what happened Friday night with Preston with his threat to take Tyson away from me and tension from my deeper personal life, I needed that kiss more than I realized. But he didn't need to know that. "Answer my question"
I narrowed my eyes at him until he began to examine his surroundings. "It seems you constantly forget that you work for me. Since I finally had your correct name" he threw a slight smile my way "I have all the information I need."
"So basically you're stalking me?" I couldn't deny the fact that having this fine specimen of a man interested in me was flattering, but I didn't know what he wanted. I couldn't offer much to him so I really don't understand why a onetime thing couldn't just send him on his way.
"Basically." He chuckled lightly as he continued to examine my apartment. "What I don't understand though, is why you dislike using the phone."
"What are you talking about?" I asked as I returned to packing lunch I made for Tyson and I. should I pack for him as well? What, no! He was not spending the day with us. The last thing I need was Tyson asking questions I was unable to answer.
"I specifically told you to call me."
"Why's calling you such a big deal?"
"That's a question you should be asking yourself, Ms. Wilson. If you had called me on Saturday, I wouldn't be here now at your home to see you." He stated as he leaned against the kitchen frame, watching me pack.
"Okay, fine. Leave so I can call you." I offered. He chuckled quietly again, this time placing his hand at the small of my back, just above my behind.
When Tyson's presence became apparent again, Cameron removed his hand and placed it into his pocket.
"Are you coming with us?" Tyson asked him.
"Where are you guys headed?"
"No where!" I interrupted as I finished packing everything and was ready to leave.
"We are going to the water park." Tyson told him, ignoring me.
"I would love to come." Cameron smiled. He took the large bag that I packed with extra clothing and towels, and the lunch bag from my hands and opened the door for us. "We can take my car."
When we reached the parking lot and he pressed the button for his car, I froze. Why was I not surprised at the car he drove? A bright red Ferrari came to life, getting Tyson excited. We packed up and buckled in, finally ready to head off to the park.
=======
We sat under the shade of the trees on a patch of grass as we watched Tyson enjoy himself with the other kids in the park.
"How old is he?" Cameron asked, looking down at me. "Six. Lauren, my sister, died when he was three in a car accident and I have had custody of him ever since." I told him as I watched Tyson join the line for the waterslide.
"I'm sorry" he placed his arm over my shoulder and pulled me closer to him. I sighed as I rest my head against his chest, enjoying the contact a bit more than necessary. I smiled up at him but then looked down quickly as I realized I didn't know this man beside me.
