Katherine Wilson
I entered into work today anxious and nervous. After Cameron’s email yesterday, I didn’t know what to think or expect. As I passed by the reception’s desk, I noticed Matt wasn’t at his desk this morning, instead it was Rachel.
“Good morning,” I said hesitantly “Where’s Matt?”
“He’s been moved to a different project. The message just came in this morning, but don’t worry. I have read over all the files and details and Matt has got me up to speed.” Rachel reassured me.
Rachel started working here just over a year now. She was a temp before she got hired as an assistant for a few secretaries… I had no problem with her… except she wasn’t Matt.
One name popped into my head: Cameron Richards! The nerves on that man to change my secretary.
I placed a smile on my face despite my inner feelings. “Great. Have my message on my desk by noon, please. Lunch at one, it’s on me”
I couldn’t do anything right now. All I could do was focus on my work and make the best out of this situation.
“Okay,” Rachel said staring at me bright eyed as if she wasn’t sure she caught everything “Okay. Mr. Richards needs to see you in his office” She suddenly remembers.
I nodded my head and entered into my office. What did this man want now?
I hung my jacket, placed my bag in my chair, and headed to the top floor.
“Come in”
I entered into Oleander’s office but got caught off guard because it wasn’t who I was expecting. He looked really similar to Cameron in facial features and height but he appeared older. He smiled at me as I walked over to the desk and sat down in the chair opposite him.
“Mrs. Wilson?” He asked
“Ms. Wilson” I corrected nervously. I had no idea why I was here. Hell, I was expecting to see someone else.
He stood to his feet and walked around the table, taking a seat on the edge. “Let me introduce myself. Lance Richards, nice to finally meet you.” He said as he outstretched his hand to me.
I took it out of respect and shook it “Katherine Wilson”
“Ms. Wilson I know who you are.”
“You do?” I asked out of shock. I have never met this man before.
“Yes. You are the beautiful women that occupied my brother’s mind for weeks after just one night.”
My skin heated and my body tensed up. He told his brother about what happened in the elevator…? Well I guess I couldn’t be angry because if Lauren was here I would have told her too. Not knowing how to respond, I nodded my head.
“How would you like to have dinner with me tonight?” He asked as he leaned forward.
“Umm… excuse me…?”
“Dinner. Tonight. With me.” He emphasized with a smile.
I stared up at him blankly until the office door opened. I turned my head towards the door, grateful someone would rescue me. I didn’t have anything against this man but I didn’t even know him enough to want to have dinner with him.
Cameron stood at the doorway, his hands in his pocket and his eyes trained on us. “I see you’ve met my brother.”
“Actually, I was just asking her out.” Lance smirked
Cameron’s face remained passive as his eyes darted between me and Lance. “And what did she respond?”
“She hasn’t answered yet” Lance smiled as he touched my knee. I shot up out of my seat, the atmosphere finally throwing me over the edge.
“Listen, I don’t know what this is, but I want no part in it.” I fused as I looked between the both of them. What did they think I was? A toy that they could pass back and forth? I am a grown woman, independent at that, and I did not want to be a part of this s**t. “I have a very important Ad to create and seeing how my original secretary is no longer with me, I’ve got a lot of work to do. Excuse me”
I walked passed Cameron and headed for the elevator.
“Katherine” I heard Cameron’s voice call as I tapped my feet impatiently.
“What?” I snapped.
“Ms. Wilson, I do not like your tone of voice” He mumbled as he scanned my face. Remembering that he was my boss, even though we had what we had, I calmed down.
“Mr. Richards, I suggest you update your brother on the dating policy at this firm.” I muttered.
“Was that why you didn’t agree to going out with him?” He mumbled as he watched me enter the elevator and pressed my floor button.
“I guess you will never know” I spat as the doors closed. I was livid, more at him than anything. I knew we didn’t have anything serious but he didn’t even tell his brother the back the hell up. As if I was the office slut that welcomed everyone to the firm with opened legs. The look Lance had on his face was suggesting more than dinner… I guess I couldn’t blame anyone but myself.

I was sitting at my desk with Rachel across from me as I tried to catch her up.
“So the theme is red? Why not orange?” She questioned, clearly confused. I personally thought that question was self explanatory but what do I know?
“We don’t want it to look like Halloween, Rachel. Red personifies elegancy.” I informed as I watched her nod her head slowly. My computer pinged signifying a new message.
Cameron Richards
How has your day been?
As I read this, I felt happy and annoyed at the same time. Happy that he was messaging me, and annoyed that he was messaging me…
I ignored the message and focused on explaining the underlining message that Matt and I decided the Ad would carry out.
Minutes later: Ping!
Cameron Richards
Are you angry at me, Katherine?
No really? I rolled my eyes and went back to my explanation.
Ping!
Cameron Richards
I know you are reading these messages Katherine. I receive time stamps.
“Good for you” I snarled in annoyance out loud at the computer. I didn’t even care that Rachel was staring at me as if I just became crazy. Stupid Asshole.
Ping!
Cameron Richards
I’m sorry.
That caught me off guard. I found myself missing him at that moment but I shook it off.
Katherine Wilson
I need my secretary back.
Cameron Richards
I can’t do that. He’s already a part of a new team, it’s a promotion. Rachel needs experience and everyone seems to agree that you’re the best to deliver. I didn’t do this to penalize you Katherine.
Katherine Wilson
I find that hard to believe, but you’re the boss.
I muted my computer and turned my focus back to Rachel. A strong headache was building and I couldn’t stop it. Yes, it was true that Matt had received a great opportunity to work in collaboration with a larger team. But right in the middle of my new project?
--
We were back from lunch and I felt more confident in Rachel’s ability to support me through this.
“Katherine, Mr. Richards is here to see you.”
I was tempted to ask ‘which one’ but I didn’t want to see either of them.
“Take a message” I mumbled through the phone.
I watched as my office door opened and as Cameron entered my office. I took off my glasses and rest them on the desk, in hopes of blurring out his face.
“Can I help you, Mr. Richards?” I sighed
He walked over to my desk and helped me to my feet. Before I knew it, I was sitting on my desk, he was between my legs, and his lips were moving against my lips. I weakly allowed his tongue to brush against mine as his hands squeezed my thighs.
He made small kisses down my jaw and then continued down my neck, but I was feeling it somewhere else…
“You can’t keep doing this” I breathed as I swallowed the bile in my throat.
“Can’t keep doing what?” he whispered against my skin, his fingers inching closer to my core. I mustered up all the strength that I could and pushed him away, closing my legs.
He used the tip of his tongue to lick his bottom lip as he came closer. I held out my hand, stopping him a few inches away.
“I’m not your play thing, Cameron” I muttered quietly, my heart still beating fast.
I ran his hand through his hair in frustration. “I know that”
“Oh really? Is that why you basically handed me over to your brother as if I was yours to begin with?”
“I did not hand you off to anyone. You make your own choices. If you wanted to go out with him I couldn’t stop you.”
“Whatever” I sighed, getting tired of this conversation. I hopped off my desk and straighten the crumpled papers.
There was a minute of silence within the room before he spoke. “I would have killed him if you had said yes”
“Didn’t seem like you cared much” I responded. He took my hand into his and grasped my neck into his large hands.
“You have no idea how much I care.” He mumbled as he claimed my lips with his own, caressing them gently.
