Stood up

Blind Date? I ended up having to go for the blind date because Charlotte insisted that I go. I wore a black dress that went up to my knees; I tied my hair up like the way I always prefer it. “What do you think?’  I asked her after I face-timed her. She didn’t come through tonight because she was buying with her boyfriend. “I think you look perfect,” She said to me as I smiled briefly at her. I knew that would be her answer if I asked her how I looked. “Okay, thank you. You said I will find him at which restaurant?”  I questioned her. “It will be at the Prime joint” She mentioned, and I nodded my head “Great, I will let you know how it goes,” I said to her, and she nodded her head before cutting the line I quickly checked my makeup before grabbing my purse and car keys, I made my way out of my house going to the car; I got in my Mercedes and drove away to the restaurant.   I arrived at the restaurant after driving for some time; I parked my car in front of the restaurant and got out of the car.   The restaurant was an ultra-modern place made of glass and steel; the glasses ran from top to bottom.   When I got inside, I looked around for the person who I was meeting, but no one was alone; I walked to the reception to find out if maybe they can help me locate the person. “Hello, I am looking for someone I was supposed to meet here. His name is Gerardo,” I questioned the receptionist who quickly checked the computer. “Unfortunately, Mr. Gerardo Sanchez called earlier and canceled the reservation,” she said to me and I could feel my mouth getting dry, I pursed my lips together and later swallowing hard, I felt humiliated by all this. I remember how Charlotte convinced me to go for this stupid blind date and I was Skeptical about it because I knew something like this might happen.   “Ma’am?”  She questioned me bringing me back to reality “I am sorry, thank you so much,” I said to her holding tight to my purse as I made my way to my car my feet felt like they were numb. My heart was beating fast, and I felt like something was in my throat. I got in my car and took deep breaths; how could someone stand me up again? What was this?   I took out my phone and dialed charlotte’s number, “Hello? How is it going?”  She excitedly questioned me; I took a deep breath before responding I didn’t want to snap at her because this wasn’t her fault. It was probably the guy who went and looked me up on the internet. “He canceled the dinner,” I said to her, and I heard her gasp through the phone “Oh my God, Ayanna! Are you okay?  Do you want me to...?”  She questioned, but I chipped in, I knew she wanted to leave what she was doing to come and be by my side. “No, you don’t have to come through, I am fine. Okay?”  I said to her. “Oh, Aya... I feel guilty about this. It’s all my fault I shouldn’t have insisted on you going for this blind date,” She said, her voice sounding concerned. “Hey? I should be the one upset, but I am fine, really. Why don’t you have fun then we can talk tomorrow, huh?”  I said to her, and she agreed. “Okay, but if you feel you can’t be alone, call me I will rush there, okay?”  She said to me. “Alright, now get back to your man I am sure he is waiting for you,” I said to her and she wanted to explain herself to me but I quickly cut the call as I sighed heavily. How was it possible that I was stood up by someone? What was wrong with me?   I started the engine and drove away; I needed to drink myself to sleep if possible. I pulled over in front of my house and got out of the car. Before I could enter my house, I received a call. Who could call me this time?  I questioned myself inwardly as I took out my phone. I quickly took it out to check who could call me; it was Robert. What did he want this time? “Hello?”  I answered “Hi, are you home?”  He questioned me as I scoffed, what was he doing?  Trying to be my friend for what. “What do you want, Rob? Are we friends now that you can find out if I am home or not?”  I snapped” “Of course not. But I just wanted to check if you are home,” He said to me. “Yes, I am at home. What about it?”  I questioned him, I heard him sigh like he was relieved or something. “Okay, that’s all I just wanted to know if you are home.”  He said before cutting the line, what was this?  Did he go crazy or something? I questioned myself as I looked at the phone. I wanted to call him back, but I couldn’t do that. I got into my house and made my way to the kitchen, going to get myself a bottle of wine; I needed to drink myself to sleep. Yes, that’s what I told myself that I would do. I could drink myself to sleep so I can forget about that humiliating thing that happened to me. I have never been on a blind date before and before I could even start; I was stood up. How ironic.   ****** The next day I arrived early at work because I had a meeting with some management team members so I needed to prepare for that plus I was also planning on forgetting about the fact that I was stood up by some man who had nothing to his name. I stepped out of the elevator and made my way towards my office, I usually arrived before my secretary but it surprised me that the lights were on and she was here already. Which was definitely strange? I looked at her desk, and there was no one, but her bag was there. I sighed heavily, walking towards the door of my office, but I stopped in my tracks when I caught the scent of a man’s perfume. “Hello?” I heard the voice, and I sighed heavily without turning to look at him, I knew who it was but I dint want to make it obvious. I just opened the door to my office and got in, leaving the door behind me open. “What do you want?  And who allowed you inside this place?’ I questioned without turning to look at him, I made my way to my desk placing my bag on the desk, and finally turned as I came face to face with the man who visited me so early.
