CHAPTER EIGHT ROWAN It started raining the moment I stepped outside. Normally, I'd be happy to see it raining. It wasn't exactly a common occurrence in a place like Pasadena, and it meant that perhaps this year, fire season might not be terrible for once. But when the rain turned to a downpour, I grimly realized that I was going to be late to pick Anna up. My driveway had become a muddy mess, the gravel washing away down the hill that led to my house and farm.
