Chapter 6: The Protective Brother

1712 Words
-Hunter- Oh, this was so much better than I had expected, and everyone didn’t just turn quiet. No, there was this thick tense energy filling the room, just making me smile, as I let my words sink in for everyone. I continued to smile, as I looked at Chris, who blinked quickly, not really believing he had heard right. “What did you say?” he finally asked. “I am her ma-“ I didn’t even get to finish until he let out a deep possessive growl only an alpha could make, and threw himself at me, knocking both me and the chair to the ground, which made everyone act. Chris growled down at me, grabbing the collar of my shirt. “No! Not you! Anyone but you!” he yelled before pulling back his hand, but before he got a chance to punch me, there was the sound of a gun being c****d. Archer … I knew he would let nothing harm me, and as expected he was ready to shoot Chris, just one word from me, but then more guns were pulled out and now everyone was aiming at everyone. Fantastic … That certainly went well. “Put down the guns! Not in my f*cking house!” the king yelled. Everyone was still frozen, keeping their guns on someone, just in case. The king growled deeply, making the walls shake, and then he went around the desk, and pulled Chris off me, by grabbing him by the back of the neck, like he was a small little pup. He threw him backwards and Evan was right there to hold him back, James too. The king turned to me and held out his hand, but I pushed it away, getting up on my own, even if I had to support myself to his desk slightly. This was not good … I could feel a pain shooting from my lower back, and my head had taken a hit too, but I acted like I didn’t feel anything, as I stood up straight and brushed my hands over my sleeves and fixed my clothes. The king just watched me with eyes that told me quite clearly that I had it coming, and he did not feel at all sorry for it. I just ignored it, and then turned to Archer and the others, holding out my hand and telling them to lower their guns. “Chris,” the king said, and turned to him. “Don’t you f*cking do it!” he yelled. “She is MY sister!” “Don’t you think I f*cking know,” he shouted. “And she is technically not mine to give away, so all I am asking is for you to listen, because if Angela will listen to anyone… it is you.” “I won’t ask her to go with this psychopath! Over my dead body!” “Just listen!” Chris still had to be held back, but at least he had gotten quiet. “I don’t like it either, but Hunter pointed out how it would be best if she left with him.” “He isn’t f*cking touching her!” he sneered, looking at me. I just gave him a crooked smile. Oh, I wouldn’t just touch her. I would f*ck her until she forgot her own name and would scream mine. I would find every sweet button on her body and learn what made her whimper and moan. As if he knew what I was thinking, he growled deeply at me. “Get those sick ideas out of your head!” he sneered. “It isn’t happening!” “Oh, but it will. She is mine, after all.” Chris pressed forward ready to jump me again, but the others were able to hold him back, as the king continued. “Connor has friends on this side of the water, if Angela leaves with Hunter she is hidden and protected. Hunter stands much stronger over there than I stand here. We know this. I might have gotten the council under control and removed the law that allows them to take Octavia away from me, but that won’t stop Connor from finding another way to take her from me, or to take my throne from me. Hunter can keep her safe … better than we can.” Chris was suddenly very quiet, not saying a word, but still shooting me a hard glare. I didn’t care. He didn’t matter to me, but his sister did, and she would come with me, even if they didn’t agree. Which they would have to. The king owed me. “No,” Chris said. “You don’t have a choice,” I said. “Your king owes me.” Everyone turned to me, and looked at me with so much hatred, but that just made me smile. “And let us not forget why he even does. Think about it Chris, he would never have been in this situation had you not taken Kaytlyn with you. It all traces back to you,” I said. “That is enough,” Valerio said. “I made the decision, and I will make sure to honor my word.” “Then I don’t see why we are still discussing this,” I said. “She is coming with me.” “Angela isn’t a thing!” the king growled. “It is not like I can just pack her into a suitcase and hand her over to you. She needs to be convinced as well, and he is her brother! He can do that.” The king pointed to Chris, who just shook his head, which made Valerio turn to him. “You need to think about what is best for her.” “I am!” he said. “No, you are not. Right now, you are focused on keeping her close because you are her brother, and you don’t want to see her leave again. It has almost been a year since you two last saw each other, but she has to leave. At least that way she will be out of your father’s reach.” “We don’t know that for sure! He could easily find a way over there and take her away again! At least if she is here, I can protect her,” Chris said. “I will make sure to be prepared for him,” I told him. “How?! You don’t even know the man!” “I know enough … and I assure you that Angela will be kept safe.” “Yeah, and that would mean something if I actually trusted you, assh*le!” I sighed, rolling my eyes, getting tired of this conversation. I could technically just go find Angela, throw her over my shoulder and take her with me. No one could stop me, but it would just be so much easier if she came with me willingly. “Chris, she will be safe over there,” the king said. “She belongs with me!” “No one doubts that, but if she is really his mate, then you know what that means …” The king let the words hang in the air, but it was clear almost every male in there understood what it meant. It meant I would protect her with my life. Nothing would stop me from keeping her safe, and I would not allow her out of my sight. She was my queen. The mate I thought I would never find, since I was as far from deserving of one, as one could be. “He won’t hurt her.” “I can’t be sure of that …” “But you can,” the king said. “Because you know what it means finding your mate. You didn’t want to leave Kate behind no matter what. Hunter won’t leave without Angela, and he will certainly not let anyone hurt her.” Chris sighed deeply, his body growing laxer, and Evan and James let go of him. He took a few deep breaths before looking at me and pointing at me. “Give me your f*cking word, she will be safe with you,” he sneered. “I don’t think I need-“ “Now! Or I will finish what I started and this time I won’t be stopped!” I straightened my back even more. “Fine, if you want to hear me say it, even if it is already very obvious, then fine … I give you my word, your sister will be safe with me,” I said. “And you won’t touch her without her permission.” I growled, irritated. This was taking too long, and I wanted my damn mate, right now! Chris and I stared a long time at one another, and he seemed to wait for me to f*ck up in some way, so he could jump me again and this time make sure I didn’t get up again. “Yes! I won’t touch her without her permission. I told you! She is safe with me.” “You are f*cking sick, that is what I know and if I hear that you have hurt her in any way or gotten too close-“ “You will kill me. I understand, but I won’t do anything to her that she doesn’t want me to.” Chris growled at me again. He did not like to think his sister would be touched by any male, but he hated it even more to think that that male would be me. “I can’t say you won’t have to drag her with you … but I will try and convince her,” Chris said and walked out of there not even looking back. I turned to the king again, whose eyes were cold and hard to read. “It isn’t just Chris who will come for you if you hurt her,” he said. “We all will.” “Message received,” I told him before turning away with the rest of my men. “I will be waiting at the entrance hall for her. Do not let me wait for too long.”
