My heart ached at Ricky’s slouched shoulders, but I bit my tongue to keep from calling him back to me. He either didn’t want to fight for me or was cowed beneath the demons of the past enough that he felt he didn’t have the right to stand at my side.
“I thought I told you to stay away from him!” Daddy lit into me the second the club’s door slammed shut behind Ricky.
I spun back around, anger flaring to life inside me, heating my face. “I’m twenty-six for f**k’s sake! It’s time you let me live my own life!”
