CHAPTER TEN

ODETTE’S POV.

A week later.

I am seated in the room in the pack house, Zach has gone for a meeting with a few of the pack members. Apparently they are a few wolf hunters that have been invading the pack and luckily a few of them have been caught.

Last week, we were able to secure the deal, the money was given to Zach and now we are waiting for the feedback from the investors. Dad and mum left a few days after then and we talk everyday, mum is fine and I know for a fact that she will live. She is a strong woman, she didn’t crumble the first time and she won’t crumble now.

The pack house is beautiful but everyone seems to walk on eggshells with me and Zach. For the past week we have spent here, I have seen how ruthless Zach is. His word is his law and I see how swiftly he gets things done. I can’t help but be proud of him the most, I always knew he was going to be a force to be reckoned with. Now the only thing we need to do now is focus on our lives and our future.

My thoughts are interrupted when the door pushes open and a lady enters. A frown appears on my face seeing her. What the heck? Like how dare she enter my room without even knocking?

“And who are you?” I ask straightening my body on the bed, “couldn’t you have knocked?”

“I would have knocked if I was entering a room that didn’t belong to me” she snaps and anger immediately envelops me.

“What?” The frown on my face deepen, “what stupid thing are you saying?”

“I can see why he says you are not hard to manipulate” the lady says again, walking towards me, “so gentle looking, you don’t even look like you will hurt a fly”

“Who the heck are you?”

She chuckles lightly, “Zach didn’t tell you?”

“Tell me what?”

“I see, maybe he didn’t want to hurt his little mate”

“I do not appreciate the tone of your voice” I stand up, I am a few inches taller than her, “tell me why you are here or I will not hesitate to put my claws in your neck”

We are still talking when the door opens up again and Zach saunters in, holding a brown envelope in hand.

“Zach, who is this lady?” I ask him but he ignores me and walks to the woman, pressing a kiss on her forehead.

My whole world comes to a f*****g standstill as I see my husband kissing another. My jaw drops for a moment, I can’t even begin to comprehend what is happening.

“What the hell do you think you are doing, Zach?”

“What took you so long, baby?” The lady asks him again.

“I had to finish up everything nicely” Zach responds, “we talked about this”

I just stand there looking at them like I didn’t even know them.

“Zach?”

“Can you relax!!” He bellows and I am taken aback. He raised his voice at me, Zach f*****g raised his voice at me.

“What the heck do you think you are doing?” I snap in anger.

“What he should have done a long time ago” the lady chips in, “don’t tell me you actually believed he came back for you because he loved you and wanted you? Oh come on, Odette. You are smarter than that. A man who has been alive for three years without coming to you, didn’t that ring a bell?”

My heart sink to the bottom of my stomach, what the hell is she talking about?”

“Zach?” I turn my attention to him again, “what….

“Here” he throws the document he is holding towards me, “you can leave after signing that”

“What?”

My forehead scrunch up as I pick up the envelope and pull out the paper, it is a f*****g divorce paper.

“What the f**k?”

“We have gotten what we wanted, there is no need to keep pretending that you are needed here Odette. You must have noticed, everyone walking on eggshells around you here because everyone knows me as the Luna of the pack and Zach is my mate. You are smart and it baffles me that you didn’t take notice of that. All this is just a mirage to get you to do what we want…

My heart skips a beat, what the heck is she saying?

“Babe?” I walk towards him, “what is this clown saying?”

“Watch what you say to her” he retorts, “she is the woman I love and I won’t hear any bad thing against her. And yes, she is right… you and I have nothing between us anymore. I got what I wanted from you so it’s time to stop pretending. I have tolerated you enough for the past weeks, I can’t do that anymore”

“Are you crazy?” I yell at the top of my voice, “how dare you stand here and speak to me in this manner? I am your mate, I am your wife and yo..

“And I am divorcing you” he yells, “I am breaking up with you. I am breaking up our bond and…

“Baby, you can’t….

“But I need you to do one thing for me before you go” he walks closer to me and grabs my hand, “I need your venom. You and your mother have the healing ability and I need your venom and your blood”

“Let go of me” I try to snap my hand out of his but he holds onto me tightly, “I almost died because of you, this is the least you can do for me. Sign the divorce papers and give me the venom and I will let you live”

Tears well up in my eyes, this man looks so different from the man I was mated to. What exactly is he doing? I can not even bring myself to try to imagine or understand what the heck is going on here.

“Zach, what…

“I will explain everything to you” the lady butt in again, “three years ago, Zach pretended to be dead just to stay away from you. He said you were overbearing and he couldn’t cope with you. Well, I let you have him before then because you were the sure bait, the only person who would be able to give him what he wants and like a fool, you took him right back when he came running back to you without even trying to dig up what happened. We asked for money and you willingly gave it. So now, you can only leave after we get your venom and a good amount of your blood. Zach and I have known each other all our lives and you just showed up out of nowhere and manifested as his mate..”

Now her voice sounds distant, I find it hard to believe that Zach will betray me like this, I find it hard to believe that the same thing that happened to my mother is about to happen to me. How can he betray me like this? How can..

“And if you must know” the lady continues, “we already have a child coming on the way”, she touches her tummy lightly, “ so you are the other woman now”

I feel my head spinning as tears continue to pour out of my eyes. Where the hell did I go wrong in loving him with all of my heart?

“I only put up with you until now because I needed that money, Odette” Zach says again, “and now you give us what we want and we will let you leave”

“How dare you Zach?” I half yell, “how dare you…

The lady slaps me, hard..

“Don’t you dare raise your voice to the alpha of our pack”

“Do you know who my dad is?” I ask her.

“The man who stole your mother from your father?” She scoffs, “I hear your mother is sick now, do you think he will leave her and jump to your aid?”

I look at Zach, disappointment written all over my face. He told her, he told this b***h everything? How can he? How can he break my heart like this?

I sniff back a tear as I place both hands on my waist, why didn’t I see this? Why didn’t I feel it? Why…

“Of course you wouldn’t be able to feel anything” he tells me, “and I have Bryer to thank for that. Just do as you are told and I will let you leave, Odette. I have been relying on concoctions for years to be able to get by and now you are going to repay my favor. Give me what I want and sign the divorce papers, you are free to go”

“I will do no such thing” I blurt out, “I won’t sign the papers and I won’t give you what you want. You are my mate..

He grabs me by the neck and shoves me against the wall, a light gasp leaves my mouth. I have never seen this Zach, this one that looks so dangerous like he is about to kill me,

“Do not make me ask again, Odette”

“You filthy bastard” I mumble as tears continue to sting my eyes.

“We will take it from you either ways” he growls and before I can even say anything, I feel a slight pain on my neck and I immediately close my eyes to utter darkness.
