L e a n d e r
It was a long drive. We stopped over to a gasoline station for gas and searched for food in its convenience store. Tilden was munching a pack of sweet and sour chips as we hit the road again.
"Say 'ah'." He said while trying to feed me.
I bit on the potato chip and Tilden smiled like a stupid kid.
"What are you smiling for?"
"Hehe, you're so cute."
I looked at him and then at the bag of chips. "More."
"Yes, wifey. Hehe. I could do this all my life."
I laughed.
.....
It took us more than five hours on the road to reach the barracks which were located in L-Zone. The roadside was filled with thick coiled barbed wires and I could see blood and some pieces of flesh stuck on the thorns. Five armed people were standing a meter apart and behind them was a massive height of four to five meters concrete wall that circled the barracks and a hard steel gate.
They recognized Tilden immediately and snappily saluted before the man in the middle grabbed his two-way radio then the gate slid open revealing a wide lawn of well-manicured grasses with no people around, the left side of the lawn had three helipads and a helicopter was present. The only cemented area was the road that leads to the barracks which was almost two hundred meters away from the gate. In the middle of the road was a circular mound where three tall poles were erected with different flags on each end.
The wide building extends up to more than a hundred meters and the walls were made of redish bricks that were worn out by time but still looked like they were still well maintained.
I parked in front of the doors and when we got out of the car, two officers went out of the heavy metal doors and they both saluted at Tilden.
"Lieutenant Colonel."
"Major Montray." Tilden returned the salute and both snappily brought their hands down.
"Are the refugees with my squad safely came back yesterday?" Tilden asked.
"Yes, Lieutenant. We also picked the samples that noon and successfully delivered them to the lab for research."
Tilden nodded and while they were talking I noticed that the gate had a scanner.
"This is Leander, a very special acquaintance of mine."
I was surprised when I heard the name that I called myself and was it necessary to add adjectives?
"Major." I just bowed slightly because I didn't know how to behave. Should I salute also?
After a few words, the two officers finally said their goodbyes. Tilden swiped on the scanner screen and punched a long line of numbers before the door smoothly slid open and what welcomed us was a hallway that led to a wide courtyard in the middle of the building. A barren quadrangle that could fit thousands of people. The heat was absorbed by the cemented floor and I could see the heat wave.
"Everyone is at the other side of the square." Tilden said and held my hand.
I looked at our hands.
"I'm afraid you'll get lost so I'll hold your hand." Tilden said while wearing a serious face.
Seriously? Who would get lost in that rectangular building? My sense of direction was not that broken even though I lost my memories.
"Forget about everyone, let's see a doctor first to see your wound." I said.
"Oh. Yeah, I forgot about that."
"Do you want your leg to rot? Lead the way."
Tilden smiled making me frown.
What the hell was he smiling for?
We walked to the left side of the outside hallway. The building surrounding the quadrangle was four stories high, all sides had a wide hallway facing the quadrangle and I saw that there was also another hallway inside the building.
I did not bother to stop him from holding my hand as we walked. We're in a relationship, so I guess we can hold hands and since the place was deserted.
"Is this your training ground?"
"Yes, we did our drills here including morning and evening calls."
"It's so hot."
"It is, but I got used to it and today's weather is hotter compared to before."
I nodded.
Tilden became chatty after that. He told me about his days when he was a young soldier. His grandfather used to be in the navy and was a Fleet Admiral, his father was a Second Lieutenant in the Marines and died when Tilden was still nineteen. He was never forced to become a soldier. It was his dream.
I looked at him. He said he was thirty-seven years old but he looked like in his early thirties. He was about to tell me about the mysterious man of his life when he stopped walking and I turned to look at the words written above a door in bold white letters.
INFIRMARY
Tilden knocked and opened the door. The room smelled like antiseptics and the electric fan was producing a noisy metallic sound.
"Good afternoon." Tilden greeted and someone wearing a short-sleeved green jersey with number 001 at the back turned and greeted Tilden back.
We both got an anti-tetanus shot and Tilden had antibiotics and his wound was stitched without anesthetic and then his wound was redressed. We were about to leave when Tilden exclaimed as if remembering something before turning back around to face the doctor who was named Ivan.
"Do you have Omega inhibitor?" He asked.
I forgot about me being an omega and that I needed those inhibitors in the future.
"Who's the omega?" The doctor asked.
"Me." I said. "I had my heat yesterday and he suppressed it by marking me temporarily."
"Taking suppressants during heat is not effective." He said.
"But my heat is over." I said.
Ivan looked at me before turning his swivel chair to the side facing those small drawers and draw out one, taking a sachet of a syringe inhibitor and he also gave me a red capsule in a small ziplock bag.
"When did you get marked? Was it before or during heat?"
"During."
"Then it's not yet over. It'll only suppress your heat for a few hours but it'll come back, you have to do it or suffer from it. Another temporary mark won't help the next time. You can't take an inhibitor but I'll give you a spare for future use and an after-heat medicine that should be taken in the morning after if you don't want to conceive."
I stared at Ivan, thinking about what he said.
"Thank you," I said as I received the inhibitor and the capsule.
He nodded then looked at Tilden. "Don't let your wound get wet, Lieutenant Colonel." He reminded again.
"Noted, Doc. Thank you. We'll get going now." Tilden said, he held my hips as he guided me out of the infirmary.
I was still thinking about what Ivan said.
So I have to have s*x with Tilden to completely get rid of my heat? I looked at Tilden and our eyes met and I felt my body heating up, and a familiar feeling was creeping into my system. The way I felt when I was being chased by those zombies.
I exhaled.
Anyway, Tilden and I were in a relationship so there was nothing wrong with us having s*x.
"Do you wanna have s*x with me?" I asked.
