1. The Start
Forbidden love is as sweet as nectar, but painful when stung by the reality that this kind of love does not exist.
“Are you not tired from standing there alone? Why are you here and not joining your husband entertaining the guests downstairs?” Light stopped on his track and stood beside a gorgeous lady in red before leaning his back against the hotel railings. He was following this woman until she went inside of her hotel room while his nephew was busy establishing connections downstairs.
They were in a famous hotel in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig and celebrating the marriage of his nephew with the woman beside him. Because Light stood as a guardian of his only nephew, Sean, today, he acts as his parent. Bringing Sean to the altar and giving him advice. The woman beside him was his daughter-in-law as of today, but Light sees her differently. Because the first time he saw Callen, his daughter-in-law, a few months ago, he fell in love at first sight.
Light shouldn’t feel this disgusting thing towards his nephew’s wife, but he couldn’t help himself. Like a moth to a flame, he was getting attracted day by day even though it was forbidden. Dangerous… and immoral.
The moment Callen said yes in front of the altar, Light felt his heart was struck by lightning. It scorched and charred his emotions and he could only hold back not to ruin their vows. Sean may be his nephew, but he was only ten years younger than him. Their age gap is not far.
“I am just taking some cold air up here, Tiyo,” Callen looked back and smiled at him.
Light felt his heartbeat stop for a second while looking at that bewitching smile. He couldn’t help but rub his chest while slowly turning his back and looking away. He focused his gaze towards the unending traffic. The city was covered with lights while the sky was bathed in shining stars. The night was beautiful, like it was celebrating with the newlyweds.
“Why do you still keep calling me tiyo? You are already married to my nephew, and Sean is like a son to me.” Light returned his gaze to Callen, who was still smiling.
“Then what should I call you? You are my husband’s guardian. Should I call you father then?” Callen chuckled and looked down at the traffic.
“How often did I tell you to call me by my name?”
Light leaned his back on the railings again, ignoring Callen’s comment. Callen is really a goddess. The red strapless dress that she was wearing fitted her gorgeously and his junior slightly gave a faint reaction. He was not so bad himself. He was named one of the country's hottest bachelors by a famous magazine for the past few years, even though he has already reached thirty-five.
“Call me by my name,” Light thoughtfully answered. “Our age is not that far anyway.” He glanced at Callen and softly chuckled. He really doesn’t act like a father towards Callen.
“How can I? You are my husband’s uncle. That would be disrespectful, tiyo.” Callen put her arms on the balcony’s railing and slightly bent over. Her face was lowered outside the railing.
Light inwardly gulped as he looked at Callen. The distance between each other was only a meter and Light could clearly see Callen’s sexy frame. He wanted to hold that hip and slammed against it harder. This woman was tempting him, yet she didn't have any idea.
A gust of wind suddenly blew and Callen slightly shivered from the cold before rubbing her shoulders. Light naturally took off his jacket and wrapped it around Callen’s shoulder like it was a natural thing to do. He only realized it when he was already standing behind Callen and the woman was looking at him with a thankful gaze.
Light held his breath and let out a subtle smile. He couldn’t help but gulp when he smelled the sweet fragrance coming from Callen, but the woman had no idea that her actions were a temptation to Light.
Callen sweetly smiled and said, “Thank you, tiyo.”
Light was taken aback by that dazzling smile. His throat dried and he swallowed the empty air. “Let’s get inside. Your husband would scold me if you were to fall sick on your first night.”
“Nah. I am still enjoying it here, tiyo. If you are bored here with me, you can go back downstairs first. I’m okay here,” Callen said.
Light shook his head. “I will never be bored when I am with you, Callen…” Light paused his sentence when he suddenly realized that his sentence was a bit beguiling. “I mean, I enjoy your humor.” Light rubbed his neck. He was lost for words. He could feel the heat from the liquor he drank seeping out into his face, it felt hot.
“Why are you still single, tiyo? Don't you have a girlfriend to settle down with, yet? You are handsome. One of the best bachelors in the country. Don’t tell me, you…’re?” Callen changed the topic, suddenly asking about him, but her face changed a little while questioning the last part.
Light chuckled and shook his head. He knows where Callen’s question is headed.
“My nephew just got married. Why are you asking about my love life already? Do you want a mother-in-law that bad?” Light jokes. His lips twitched a little while looking at Callen.
“Was it okay for you that your son married before you?” Callen asked. “Don’t you like someone else?”
Light didn’t answer Callen's first question, but he did with the second. “I do like someone.”
Callen stood beside him. Light felt his body turn rigid. He simply put his hands inside his pockets and clenched his fist to suppress the desire to touch Callen, mostly when her perfume invaded his nose.
“Then why not pursue her?”
“She’s married,” he paused and let out a short breath. “Callen, what are you going to do when you like someone who is already taken?” Light turned his body ready to walk inside. He knows Callen's answer will hurt him, and he doesn't want her to see his pained expression.
“No. I will give it up. It's not right to covet married people. Give it up, tiyo. You can have another. You're handsome and rich. It is easy for you to find a woman to take in front of the altar.” Callen walked along with Light, but Light quickened his steps. Afraid to walk with Callen. His expression turned sullen.
“Hmn…” Light hummed and remained silent. How could that be easy when my heart was already captivated by you?
Light only heard quick footsteps as the stilettos clicking became fast. All of a sudden, slender pairs of arms encircled Light's arm.
Light stopped on his track. “What are you doing?” His voice trembled as he tried to stop the woman from getting close to him, afraid he could not stop himself from doing something that would make Callen hate him.
“I’m cold, tiyo. Let’s go back together.” Callen looked at Light and grinned. She looks like a kid who had gotten her favorite candy.
“Do you need to hold me like that? People might misunderstand.” Light tried to shrug his arms, but Callen held him even tighter.
“Why do people think of anything? You are my husband’s father. So, technically, you are my father.” Callen smiled and showed her perfect rows of teeth, Light’s greatest weakness.
Light gripped Callen’s arm tightly. “Yes. But no physical contact.”
“Why not?” Callen purposely nudged her body closer and hugged his waist, like a daughter to a father. Only Light was putting malice into it, but for Callen, it was a daughter’s affection.
Light couldn’t help it anymore. He pressed Callen’s body against the nearest wall and enclosed her with his arms both on her sides. “Callen… stop.”
“What’s wrong, tiyo? Are you drunk?” Callen innocently asked.
But Light was far from drunk. He only took a glass of vodka before following her up there.
Their faces were closed against each other and Light’s hot breath was blowing on Callen’s face. Light wanted to claim those luscious lips that looked inviting, mostly when Callen smiled again like an innocent baby. He was done for!
“Callen, baby? Are you there?”
Before Light’s brain urged him to claim that seductive lips, Sean’s voice was heard going towards their direction.
