"You want me to be your surrogate?" Kiara stared at Xavier in utter disbelief. How could he possibly be asking her this when she was the enemy's daughter?
"Yes," Xavier answered simply, relishing the priceless look on her face at his proposition. He watched as her trembling hand reached up to toy with the neck of her blouse while she attempted to understand what his game was in making this type of suggestion. When his ravenous gaze was on her, it felt as if he were stripping her naked.
"But why?" She couldn’t wrap her brain around why this would be what he demanded of her. The use of surrogacy in the werewolf community was unheard of.
"I need an heir." Xavier offered by way of explanation as he extended his hand, assisting her to her feet.
The pack had been at peace since Xavier had rejected Petra a little over three months ago. But then the Elders badgering him about producing an heir.
“You should just take a chosen mate,” Xavier's grandpa, Stephen suggested. “We have received new marriage proposals daily from the Alphas of other prestigious packs in the hopes that their daughters will catch your eye.”
“I don't need a woman in my life,” Xavier, our right refused, saying the same line as always.
But he was well aware that he needed to provide the pack with an heir in order to ensure his bloodline was carried on. He just despised the prospect of marrying yet another deceitful woman that was with him only for the power and luxury he could provide her.
"You need an heir? What about your mate?" Kiara couldn’t stop herself from asking. She wanted to be upfront with Xavier as she had only heard violent and terrifying stories about him though his mate was never mentioned.
"I don't have one," he answered coldly. Kiara grew nervous as she watched his expression darken.
"You said you don't hurt females or pups," Kiara reminded him of his earlier comment.
"That’s correct," he replied as he read her body language.
"I'm afraid I can't sell myself to you for that purpose. I don't have that kind of courage," she admitted, her heart pounded like a drum in her chest.
Surrogacy was out of the question for her, it would only become a curse upon her head. She acknowledged to herself that if her father discovered the nature of the bargain she had struck with Alpha Xavier he would banish her from the pack, turning her into a rogue. At that point, she would no longer be able to finish her education, since rogues were not permitted to attend the education systems that were established by the werewolf community. That was not even taking into account that she would lose the chance of being with either her fated or a chosen mate, as no male would accept her after giving birth to another man’s child. Even though she wished to rebel against it, she recognized the harsh reality of the community that she lived in.
“Sell?” Xavier frowned. She had misunderstood the situation. "This isn't about you selling yourself to me like a piece of meat. You only need to provide me with an heir. If you accept the terms I have set before you, I will immediately release your family and pack. I will not kill another person. The members of your pack will continue to live regular lives. You just won’t be here to see it. You will however, be free to leave my pack once you have given birth," he clarified.
The moment that Xavier mentioned to her family, Kiara forgot all about her own self-preservation. Moments ago, she had been willing to accept becoming his slave to save them. So, what was causing her to second guess herself now?
"You will give birth to my pup and stay in my pack for three months after their birth to care for them. Throughout this period, I will provide you with all that you require. Food, shelter, clothing, education, and any other necessities that you desire. When you leave in a little over a year's time, you will have a large sum of money in your account that you may use to live the rest of your life comfortably anywhere you desire. It's a win-win situation for everyone involved. All I want is a healthy heir. That's all I care about," Xavier outlined everything for her clearly. "And, yes, in the end you have the option of whether or not to take the money. I'm not buying you," he pointed out, so that she didn't get the wrong idea. She appeared to have a good deal of self-respect.
Kiara was trapped in a labyrinth of her own emotions. She didn’t care about the money as she had no intention of accepting it. But she could not help but wonder if this was the only option? Did she have to become some unknown Alpha’s surrogate? She didn't seem to have much of a choice, or did she? Could she genuinely place her trust in him?
She remained silent for a few seconds mulling over her decision while their gazes stayed focused on each other. She had been staring at his face intently, trying to discern if something there would aid her in making this life-altering decision. This surrogacy agreement could very well be a trap. After all, she had only met the man fifteen minutes ago and she had no idea if he was a man of his word.
What she was painfully aware of was that even though they were both of Alpha blood they could not have been further apart in terms of status. Xavier and his pack were the clouds in the sky, the only thing higher the Moon Goddess herself. While Kiara and the Adara Moon Pack were lucky to be referred to as a farmer’s field, lucky to make enough for the pack to continue surviving. Aside from their packs being long-time rivals, there were no other connections between them.
So how could she possibly believe him? She was sure that after listening to Noah spew venom at her in the living room, Xavier would have realized that she was an unwanted member of her family. She was only recognized as a member so that her father could marry her off to someone for a treaty. That’s how little she meant to him.
Xavier did not want to rape her as part of his vengeance, yet she could not help but think that this surrogacy contract still seemed like she was selling herself. Traumatic memories from Kiara’s past struck at her heart like a physical blow, bringing fresh tears to her eyes. Even if she wanted to, she was unable to accept his offer. She quickly broke eye contact with him then turned to exit her sister’s room. She didn’t want to cry in front of him, the worst thing to do in front of an Alpha was show weakness. Xavier gently took her hand in his, then pulled her back, causing her thin body to collide with his muscular chest.
"What's the matter?" he whispered as a soft moan escaped his chest under his breath. Her breasts felt so soft against his chest. He couldn't believe they were standing so close that he could feel her perky little n*****s rubbing against him every time she took a breath. He was unsatisfied by the bareness of the touch, especially since his suit was in the way.
"Nothing, just let me go," Kiara urged, refusing to look him in the eye as she wiggled out of his grasp to open the door.
"Don't lie to me. Tell me what’s the truth." Xavier placed his hands on either side of her waist, turning her around to face him. He despised the fact that she was avoiding eye contact with him.
“I can’t accept your proposal,” she admitted.
“Why?” Xavier frowned. When it came to this, Xavier was not going to take a no for an answer. “Tell me!” he demanded, being careful not to lose his temper and terrify her.
Kiara continued staring at his chest. Xavier watched as she carefully lifted her trembling left hand until his gaze was drawn to the glittering diamond ring resting on her finger.
"I am already engaged." Kiara squeezed her eyes shut, refusing to look at him. She never had any intentions of hiding this from him. She could feel Xavier’s building rage, she knew that he could easily snap her neck for wasting his precious time.
“Then break your engagement,” Xavier whispered alluringly in her ear.
“Break off my engagement?” Kiara’s eyes widened in astonishment as she finally looked up at him again. Xavier’s eyes were glaring venomously at her engagement ring.
“Do you understand what I’m saying?” he asked, lightly running his fingers up and down her waist. "Say something, Kiara.”
Kiara’s breathing had become irregular as his hand gently caressed her cheek. Even though he was technically a stranger and an enemy, since they had been alone he had done nothing she felt threatened by. She forced herself to look at his chest in an attempt to concentrate. She was unable to focus the attention of his gentle touch. His presence was driving her insane. It was nothing like when her fiance touched her. She needed to stop him from caressing her cheek before she moaned out loud or melted into a puddle of goo whichever came first.
"But why me?" Kiara muttered as she hesitantly raised her eyes to meet his. She found liquid heat in his eyes and could sense his palpable desire. She gasped. His eyes were filled with lust for her. When he saw how beautifully she reacted to the simplest of his touches, Xavier ran a finger over her plump lips.
He needed this woman to be his surrogate, no matter the cost. Killing her family was no longer on the table. That little belly of hers was going to carry his child.
“I…I need to leave…” Kiara extracted herself from his clutches, then attempted to flee the room. Before she could even open the door, Xavier had caught and pinned her against with all the skill of a well-trained predator.
“Because…” Xavier paused for a moment, relishing the feel of having the front of her soft body fully pressed against his. He slowly lowered his head, until their lips were an inch apart. “Because we have chosen you. That means you’re ours now,” both Dean and Xavier said together. Kiara froze when she felt his lips brush over hers. She clutched at her skirt, unsure of how she felt or how to respond as she closed her eyes. “Isn’t that reason enough?” he murmured before deepening the kiss.
Xavier wanted to nibble and suck on her soft lips, but he was afraid it might terrify his soft little prey. He tried to be gentlemanly, but the seductive scent that he couldn’t place was making it difficult. Eventually, Kiara gently pushed back on his chest, as she looked up at him.
“I thought you wanted me to be your surrogate. So, why did you kiss..." she hesitated for a moment in embarrassment. She had just been thoroughly kissed by a man who supposedly only wanted her for the child she could give him. That kiss, on the other hand, did not fit into that equation.
Xavier scowled at her mention of her being a surrogate, in the heat of the moment it was something that he had forgotten briefly. He knew that the doctor would have to implant his seed in her to be impregnated. This implied that the doctor would be able to see her goodies. That he would have to touch Kiara intimately.
“AHH! Please…” she gasped, letting out a hiss in pain as she felt Xavier’s hold on her constricting while anger came off him in waves.
Xavier realized that Dean had taken over at the mere thought of other males touching her, his wolf was already possessive of her. Though now she was weary of him after what he had just done. He let go of her tempting body, placing his hands on her cheeks instead.
"You are my surrogate, and I will determine the rules," Xavier declared, capturing her lips in a thoroughly dominating kiss. Kiara gasped at his words. What had he meant by that exactly? Ultimately, she gave in, relaxing into the arms that had been caging her in but now held her. She shivered slightly when one of the hands that was holding her waist traveled down to her hand, where it yanked the engagement ring off of her finger, tossing it to the Goddess knows where without breaking the kiss.
She really was going to be his…surrogate.
