Chapter Eighteen:
Morgan waited long enough to make sure Kai had returned as himself and not some strange specter waiting to slaughter them all. He looked normal enough, but she didn’t relax. Something was off.
She could only guess what strange thoughts were racing through his mind. When she expressed the hidden emotions, she never dreamed he’d wake up and catch her tear-filled eyes hovering over him, like some deranged lover.
His initial response seemed normal enough, given the bizarre circumstances. He immediately sat up, with eyes wider than she’d ever seen. The couch was wide enough a clearly defined space opened between them.
