Nala Again and again, they came at me, their attacks more focused and coordinated than the random violence that had characterised the earlier part of the fight. My mind raced as I dodged and countered their jaws and claws, trying to make sense of it. Was it Xander’s scent that drew them to me, or was there something more sinister at play? Had someone sent them after me? My uncle? Alpha Caleb? But no one was supposed to know I was here, and yet here they were, coming at me with a single-minded determination that chilled me to the bone. There was no time to dwell on it, though. I couldn’t afford to be distracted. My survival depended on my focus, and I pushed all thoughts of who had sent them out of my mind, allowing myself to be consumed by the battle instead. The world around me
