They all sensed that this night was different, although no one said anything about that. It would be their last party, the last real party of the “gang of four”. They were losing one of their number: in a few days only three bachelors would be left. The festive air had that indefinable tinge of sadness that signals the passing of an era. Each of them — Keith, the designated “best man,” Warren, Michael, and particularly Fraser of course, as guest of honor, knew it, deep down inside.
