Prologue
My name is Samantha Nicole Rider. When you look at me, you would see an average, not so pretty or, for that matter, sexy, short five-foot-tall 17-year-old in her senior year of high school. I do everything in my power to make sure I go unnoticed by everyone. I am what a lot of people in my little town and high school would call a ghost child or a child who you see but know hardly anything about or care to. My family has lived in this town for three generations now. Well, at least my adopted family has. You see, Rider is not my true birth-given the last name, that would be Gealach. I know a strange name, but my mother is Irish, and the fact that my real father had somehow disappeared out of the United States not long after I was conceived, I took on my mother’s maiden name when I was born. My mother remarried when I was only a year old, and one year later, my first half-brother came along. I love my family, don’t get me wrong, but I have always felt out of place. What’s the reason for this if they all love me like I was their own, you ask?
Well, that my friends are where we begin this little story of who I was, who I’m meant to be, and why I always felt out of place.
