Chapter 1: Becoming Skeleton
Rain droplets fell from the sky striking the umbrella of the people. Time four P.M. It's the time where everyone goes back to their homes after a long day of school and work. However, one poor soul will not join the others in this mundane tradition of society.
In an abandoned cemetery a young man inside a ditch bathing in blood half-dead stares at the dark clouds. The boy slowly hears his heart thump slower, his eyes blinking a few more times as droplets of rainfall drop to his eyes. But before he slowly lost his vision a man with a bloody dagger gazed down at him from the edge of the ditch where he laid. He turned his gaze to his left and saw a skeleton next to him.
The young man wanted to scream but didn't have the strength. The last thing the young boy named Rein saw was a skeleton before his vision turned into never-ending darkness.
However, just seconds apart, Rein Max finds himself lying down in a place he had never been before. Staring at an unfamiliar stone brick ceiling. Rein scratches his head and hears a sound. But something worried him more than the sound he heard.
“Where's my hair!? Did I become… bald without noticing it?" Rein asked himself as he touched his head.
However, when Rein looks down at his crotch. His eyes could have popped out of their sockets. If...he even had eyes.
“Where is my skin!? Where's my flesh!? Importantly, where's my p***s!? Why do I see only bones."
Rein reached his left arm towards what he believed were his legs. But as stretch his arms, Rein noticed his entire left arm was nothing but fleshless bones. Rein's eyes glowed in bright green, as he gazed with disbelief.
“What the f**k!"
Rein tried standing up and noticed that he could feel his legs, despite being only bones. Rein massages his skull with a confused expression.
“What the hell happened?" But as he asks himself such a question. Rein remembers something out of the blue.
'Some guy stabbed me when I was walking back to my apartment. Then he dropped me into a ditch filled with human remains. Hmm, why didn't I reincarnate into a handsome protagonist? Like those in anime, why does it have to be a weak ol' skeleton? I cannot accept this fate!'
'But why does he choose to kill me? I have done nothing wrong with him. I am only walking back home peacefully.'
Rein lets out a sigh of disappointment. He looked at his surroundings and noticed that he was in some sort of dark hallway. Even without light, Rein can see about four meters of his surroundings in the hallway, as if he had a light source. But after the four-meter range, the hallway is nothing but never-ending pitch-black darkness to Rein. However, as he takes his first step. A screen pops out in front of his eyes.
Rein reads the strange screen that popped out of nowhere.
Species: Weak Special Skeleton
Level- 1
Physical Attack Points- 4
Magic Attack Points- 7
Defense Points- 3
Magic Defense- 5
Health Points- 10
Mana Points- 14
Strength- 8
Agility- 7
Speed- 7
Intelligence- 15
Dexterity- 9
Stamina- N/A to the Undead
“It's really like those anime shows. But why the f**k! is my level so weak!? Shouldn't I have some overpowered status!?”
Rein crosses his arms in the disappointing status he has seen. But he raised his index finger, and a light bulb popped out of his finger.
“Maybe I have shitty status but my skills must be terrifying. I can see it now, I am weak in status. But my skills are something that could make my foes cower in fear. I, the mighty bone master, shall burn my enemy with my Godlike skills. Hahaha!"
A new pop-up screen appeared out of nowhere. Showing his skills and their current level.
AOE: Fireball Level 1 - (Can Max To Level 3) -Evolves to->???
DPS: Curse Level 1 - (Can Max To Level 3) -Evolves to->???
Defense: Hardening Level 1 - (Can Max To Level 3) -Evolves ->???
Unique: Low Command Level 1 - (Can Max To Level 3) - ???
Rein has his mouth wide open after getting a glimpse of his weak skills that match a level, one player.
“Why am I so weak, it shouldn't go like this. I should have some overpowered status and skills. Why do I get a lame weak-ass status and skills? Like I'm starting a game from level one. Shouldn't it go like this? Oh my God! I can one-hit enemies. I'm so handsome! I'm surrounded by busty ladies.”
Rein dramatically crumbles on his knees. It's like he doesn't want to but has to face the cruel truth. That he reincarnated as a weakling in this new world. And his dreams and fantasy about reincarnation was all a lie.
“Why can't a man have his fantasy fulfilled?”
But after muttering those words, Rein felt a gaze with a harmful intention. He swiftly whirls to his back and lays his eyes at a giant maggot. The maggot's size could match the torso of Rein. Strangely, Rein saw the name, level, and health bar of the monster.
Giant Maggot:
Level - 1
Health Points - 7
“Looks like I get to fight my first enemy. But damn I'm relieved to face a level one enemy. I'm gonna s**t myself if a more powerful monster jumps on me. However, this monster might be a good practice target for me. Since I still don't know how to use any of my skills."
Rein then wonders how to use his skills, as he stares at the maggot moving slowly. But a new pop-up screen appeared in his field of vision. The screen showed the instructions on how to use his abilities.
‘To use your AOE skills stretch your arm and aim the palm of your hand at the target enemy. After aiming your palm at the target, chant the skill name then the skill will have its effect. Note: palm aiming is necessary for any range skills.’
After reading the instructions in his thoughts, Rein tries to use his skill. He stretches his arm out and points his palm to the maggot before chanting, “ Fireball."
An orb of fire formed at Rein's palm. Then with a split second, the orb launched itself to the maggot. The fireball then exploded into a small field of fire upon contacting the maggot. Dealing eleven points of damage to the enemy. Due to the enemy having weaker health points. The skill managed to one-shot the maggot.
However, after using the skill Rein's vision suddenly had a pop-up screen appear, this notification congratulated him.
’Congratulations! You have achieved cold-hearted murderer. Rein Max has unlocked the user information screen.'
A red line bar and a blue bar below appeared in his upper left corner view. It's not too obstructing for him as he's still able to see clearly.
“This must be my status bar for my Health Points and Mana Points."
Health Points - 10
Mana Points - 12
“I guess my fireball skill used two mana points. I should not use my skills hastily with my current level. Why the f**k do I have to start my life in another world as a weakling and an undead of all things?”
“Oh s**t! I don't know how to do a basic attack when fighting. I hope I can use melee weapons. Especially when my Physical attack is my weakest trait. Why does my new life in this world have to be like a player starting at level one?”
“But wait!? I did notice a strange skill, which piqued my interest. Maybe I'm not that weak after all. However, I must not set my hopes high. Also, if I'm not mistaken there are benefits to being undead. One, I don't need any human sustenance and rest. Second, I have immunity to poison, so no need to worry about bug-type monsters if they are in this world. Maybe being undead isn't that bad after all?”
While Rein was daydreaming about the advantages of being a skeleton and his unique skill. He hears a sound moving towards him. Rein slowly turns around and gazes at the pitch-black hallway where the sound was coming from. He prepares himself for the possibility of a powerful monster.
Clak-Clak-Clak
Then a silhouette slowly emerged from the dark hallway. Rein's eyes glowed in bright green as he gazed at the figure's true identity.
‘A skeleton monster like me? Don't tell me that I have to fight this guy.’
Rein didn't lose his fighting stance, as he kept his palm aimed at the skeleton. The two fleshless beings had a staredown. None of them dared to move an inch.
The skeleton in front of Rein made him worried. Since the skeleton was taller and wields a double-edged sword. The distance between them was close. Rein worries that this skeleton might be aggressive towards him and would kill him instantly.
Then another pop-up screen appeared on Rein's line of sight. ‘Do you want to use this unique skill: Low Command, to convert a lower skeleton swordsman into a follower?'
“Wait what!?" Rein exclaimed after reading the pop-up.
‘So that's the effect of my unique skill? Hmm, something's not right, maybe this ability has some rules like it uses a ton of mana and this guy will only follow me for a certain time limit.'
But after thinking those thoughts a new pop-up screen appeared. The contents are telling Rein about his unique skill which he reads using his mind.
‘Low Command Level 1: Turns any undead of the same level or lower into a loyal follower. Cooldown three minutes, mana requirements: none. Can only turn one undead into a follower currently when used. After skill cooldown, you can turn another undead into a follower.'
“That's great! If I have this guy with me, I can move easily and feel more secure roaming in this place. It almost feels like I have my first party member."
Without hesitation Rein uses his skill towards the skeleton. He immediately chants the skill name and a green magic circle appears below the skeleton. A bright light then follows engulfing the swordsman skeleton.
Then a new pop-up screen appears in his sight. Which he read, “Herm Level One Skeleton Swordsman has become your follower.”
But after reading that he hears a sound. The sound had a squishy and squeaky feel. The sound was moving closer to Rein and Herm. It's something he had never heard before but even being an undead he feels tingly and disgusted by the sound.
Then like Herm before the producer of the sound got near the two skeletons, revealing itself slowly as it emerged from the dark hallway. Rein's eyes glowed bright green, upon setting gaze at the most disgusting beast he met.
