Lana's POV
We had a long slow walk back to my apartment. Cynthia wanted to chill at mine. It is still scorching hot outside. I need water, ice-cold water. I guess Professor Moses is stuck-up because he realized that I'm his student. His attitude changed immediately when he saw me in his class.
"I could really just take a swim in your pool." Cynthia says as she plops down on my sofa.
"Well, go ahead and swim." I say to her over my shoulder as I enter my kitchen. I take a bottle of ice water out of the refrigerator and I pour water into two glasses for us. I place ice cubes in each too.
"I don't think Professor Moses will want anything to do with you after he noticed you in his class. There is a policy that forbids any teacher-student relationship...s^xual for that matter. " I walk out of the kitchen with both glasses in my hands. "I think that is why he changed, he is keeping that distance." Cynthia says as she stands up and walks towards the window.
I placed the glasses down on the coffee table. Everything is so spacious here in this apartment, just how I like it. "I guess so." I say, but I do feel some kind of disappointment because of it.
"Lana, isn't that your dad? He got out of the car and he is walking up your driveway. He looks so hot, even better in person." she says and she turns around to look at me, fanning herself. "I think I'm going to pass out." she says ,dramatically hyperventilating.
"Just calm down. I don't know how you can crush on my dad." I rolled my eyes and there is a knock on the door.
"Gosh, I will be meeting him." Cynthia carried on. I walked towards the door and I glare at her before I opened it.
"Dad," I say with surprise.
"Hey." he smiles at me. He is dressed in his black Armani suit. I step out of the way, opening the door wider for him. He steps inside and he embraces me. I close my eyes, taking in his scent. I love my dad's hugs.
I pull away and he looks over at Cynthia. "This is my neighbor and friend, Cynthia." I said.
He extends his hand out to her and she looks at it nervously. She shakes her hands out and wipes them on her t-shirt. "Sorry, my hands are sweaty, you know...the heat." she says. She eventually takes his hand and shakes it. "Nice meeting you Mr..." she struggles.
"Stern." My dad says, but he is not amused at all. He knows the effects that he has on women without him doing a thing.
"Mr Stern." she smiles at him and then he pulls his hand away, focusing his attention on me.
"How was your first day of university?" he asked.
"I went well." I lied. "Would you like anything to drink?" I asked.
"No, I have a meeting to attend. That is why I'm here in New York. The meeting is actually at NYU Stern." he says. "I just came to see how you are doing and how your first day went. I haven't seen you in a month." he says.
"I miss you all, but I love it here." I smile at him and he nods.
"I have to get going. See you soon. I love you." he says as he places a kiss on my forehead and then he leaves.
"Gosh, I am speechless." Cynthia says.
"Oh, please cut it out." I say with annoyance.
"I can't help it, the man could be a model." she says as she follows after me to the backyard.
"He is my dad, so I don't need to hear what you see him as. Focus on other men that are your age." I say to her as I sit on a sun lounger, taking off my ankle boots.
"Well, you are attracted to a man that isn't even your age." she says, throwing her hands in the air.
"That is different, he isn't my friend's father." I said as I lay back on the sun lounger.
"Fair enough." she says. "I heard that there might be a test tomorrow, so I better hit the books later. I want the best grade." she says with a sigh.
"I wish that I could say the same about that."
"Well, Professor Moses will put you out of his class. You had the chance to walk out of there when he gave everyone the option. I know how much you hate Business. Your father must be very serious if he wants you to take over his company," she said.
"I want to do what I love, but he won't have it any other way. So I have to sacrifice my passion and what I love to help him." I let out a breath.
"Business is going to be the death of you if you do not love it with a passion."
"I know, but I have to try." I said.
Whenever I try to study it, it just doesn't stay in my brain. The more I force it when I study, the more my brain pushes it away. If I don't love it, then it will be a failure for me and my dad will not be impressed about it. He can get really angry at times, but I need to try. I still wonder why he doesn't give the company to my other siblings who might have the passion for it, but only my dad will know the true reason.
Perhaps Professor Moses will have extra classes for me to attend. I hope that it will help if I fail. Looking at the textbook and all the notes in class, just makes me feel so confused. This will be one long nightmare of my life. Maybe I can secretly change courses or do both without my dad finding out.
I have to try, since Professor Moses has changed. Asking him for help might be a bad idea. I am still attracted to him regardless of his attitude. That makes it a bit harder too.
