Lana's POV
There was a knock on my door and I closed my laptop. Getting up from my bed, I walked to my front door. Opening it, Cynthia is standing there, looking pretty with makeup.
"Where are you off to?" I asked with a smile.
"I am here to take you clubbing." she beamed with excitement.
"No, clubbing is not my thing. I have business to study and you need to study too," I said.
"I don't really need to study. I focus and pay attention in class, unlike you who are drooling about Professor Moses." she rolls her eyes. "Come on." she begs me.
'Cynthia, I can't," I said.
"You want to live a boring life here. It won't happen while I live across the street. Come on." she said as she grabbed my hand and started pulling me out of my apartment.
"Wait, I need my car keys." I said and she let go of my hand. I get my keys on the coffee table and I lock my front door behind me.
"This is going to be fun. You need this, you need to loosen up." Cynthia said as she has a little spring in her step towards my car.
We get inside of my car and I started the engine. "I will be failing because of you," I said as I pulled out of the driveway.
"I can always write your paper for you." she suggested.
"Not going to happen." I said as I drove. Cynthia tells me where to go and I follow her directions. She knows this place much better than I do. Clubs remind me of Brady. I don't like it.
"Maybe the professor will give you a chance." she said.
"I don't know about that." I lied. I will have to tell him that I accept his offer tomorrow after class.
****
We walked from the parking lot towards the entrance and the music could be heard from outside. There are groups of people standing outside and chilling, laughing and smoking. One man with tattoos all over him is drinking a beer and he nods at me as we walk. I walk even faster, because this is the very reason that I avoid these kinds of places.
We enter the club and the music is even louder. The place is fully packed, we squeeze through the crowd, as the strobe lights flicker. We got to the bar. I feel relieved that I got through the crowd.
"Can I have a Cosmopolitan?" Cynthia asked the bartender with a flirtatious smile and he returned the smile.
"Sure, and what does your friend want?" he looked at me. I smiled at him.
"Nothing for me." I said.
"Oh, she will have the same as me," Cynthia said.
"Cynthia, I do not drink anything." I said with a bit of panic.
"You need to relax, Lana. You need to enjoy things like this. Come on." she said as she took my hand in hers, completely forgetting about the bartender and the drinks. She leads me to the dance floor with the crowd. It is already packed. I just stood there as Cynthia began to move her body. "All you have to do is move your body." she said.
My throat feels like it would close up and the air is no longer available. Memories of Brady came back and it was like it was happening all over again. The blaring music is distant and my heart beat is the only sound that I hear. I hurried to the bathroom but there was a long queue. So I stood against the wall, with my hand against my chest.
Inhaling and exhaling.
Closing my eyes, I tried to breathe as my father had taught me when I began to get my panic attacks.
"Are you okay?" I opened my eyes as he gently placed his hand on my arm. I look into concerning ocean blue eyes. Professor Moses.
I lick my lips to moist them from dryness. I swallow and nod, but I don't feel okay. I want to get out of this place. "I'm fine," I lied.
"I don't believe that for a second." he said as he cupped my face with both of his hands and I closed my eyes. "Just breathe." he said soothingly, and I began to calm down more by just hearing his voice, my hands grip his arms, not wanting him to leave me here all by myself. I breathe. "That's it, now continue to breathe. I won't go anywhere." he said.
I calmed down even more. I opened my eyes and he was looking at my lips. He is inches close to me. He moves his thumb over my lower lip, leaning down, he presses his lips against mine. I close my eyes, this is a chaste kiss and it feels so intimate. He pulled away and he looked into my eyes.
"Thank you for helping." I managed to say because it felt like I was swept off my feet.
"I like to help. I want to kiss you more, but I won't. I just want you to be okay." he said as he looked at my lips again. "Your lips are so soft, I always wanted to kiss them." he said as he moved his thumb over my bottom lip again. "I know that this is the wrong time to ask this question, but have you decided about the deal?" he looked into my eyes again.
"I accept your offer." I said.
"F^ck, yes." he said and he kissed me again. He pulled away enough to look into my eyes. "Do you want anything to drink?" he asked me because I still saw concern in those eyes.
"I don't trust this place enough to drink anything here." I said.
"I know of a place, it is quieter. Will you join me?" he asked.
I nodded. "I need to get Cynthia and inform her. I gave her a ride to this place." I replied.
"I also have a friend here. He is sitting at the bar counter. I will be waiting for you there while you look for Cynthia." he said. He placed a chaste kiss against my lips and then he held my hand, leading me towards the bar and where Cynthia might be from where we were on the dance floor.
He let go of my hand and I almost gripped his hand again, not wanting to let go. Cynthia was dancing with another guy. "Cynthia!" I called out to her over the music.
"Where did you disappear too?" she asked as she leaned in towards me.
"I went to the bathroom. I'm going somewhere else, so can I give you my car keys? I don't want you to be stranded. I will have a lift home with another friend." I said.
I took my keys out of my pocket and I gave them to her. "What friend? You don't have any other friends," she said.
"That is not the point right now. I'm leaving." I said as she finally took the keys from me.
"Have fun!" she winked at me and I rolled my eyes at her.
I walked away from her and I saw Professor Moses talking to another man at the bar counter. That must be his friend. I walked over to them. I placed my hand gently on his lower back. He was wearing a light blue t-shirt and black jeans. He turned to look at me and he smiled. His friend looked at me too. He was still dressed in a dark gray suit, his hair slicked to the back.
"I will see you around." Professor Moses said to him, and then he took my hand, leading me out of the club. I was so relieved when we stepped outside of the club. I breathed in all the air that I could except I inhaled smoke from a person that was smoking beside me. Professor Moses chuckled as he was looking at me. "That was a bad idea," he said.
"It was." I replied as we continued to walk to his car. He opened the passenger side door for me and got inside. He gets inside of the car and then he starts the engine.
"You seem more relaxed now," he said. I looked at him and he held my gaze.
"I don't like those places," I said. He smiled before he looked ahead of him.
" It's a good thing that I was there," he said as we drove away from the club. "I was watching you the whole time when I saw you. I didn't want you to have anyone else around you, so I just watched even when Cynthia pulled you onto the dancefloor. I watched you closely and I noticed you weren't yourself. You were having a panic attack. I noticed that and I followed after you when you went towards the bathroom," he said without looking at me. He was focused on the road.
"How do you even know that it was a panic attack from when I was on the dancefloor?" I asked.
He took in a deep breath. "I just know." he said, sounding as if he didn't want to tell me.
"Really?" I pressed for the real reason.
"I have students, so I know," he said, but his tone was clipped.
"Okay." I said, because he does have students and he has come across many in his career, so I wouldn't be the first to have a panic attack. I turned my attention in front of me on the road.
" I'm taking you to a restaurant. I would like to get to know you." he said. "No one will see us at this restaurant. The people that I know don't come here", he said.
"You kissed me at the club and students could be there." I said and I feel panicked again.
"Relax, I would say that I took you home because you weren't feeling well. I doubt anyone would've seen us kiss because it was dark." he said.
"I just do not want to get into trouble," I said.
"You won't. I will protect you." he replied.
This offer is risky, but if he helps me get high grades, then I have no choice. My father would be happy about my grades. I am also very much attracted to Professor Moses. I don't know if he would ever want more than just s^x with me, but I hope so. He wants to get to know me more, so maybe that is the start of him wanting more with me.
We have a test tomorrow, and I know that it will be the start of our deal. I have to prepare myself for this kind of relationship.
