The Red Stone pack was the wealthiest pack in the country. They were also the most abundant pack with over two thousand pack members, as compared to the usual five hundred membered packs. It was why all other packs were too afraid to offend the Red Stone pack and why the Blue Valley pack hadn't tried to attack them yet. They simply did not have the numbers, despite being the second biggest pack in the country with almost seven hundred members.
"This is crazy!" Jassper gasped as the trio walked up the mansion's driveway. The party was in honour of the Alpha's son succeeding his crown so it was pretty huge.
"I'm starting to panic," Macy suddenly said as they got closer and closer to the door. The whole party crashing idea may have come from her, but Macy was always the talk-but-no-action type. She would come up with ideas and then never end up doing them. The only reason this plan was going through was because Jassper loved the idea. Jassper was the opposite of Macy. Once he comes up with a plan, he goes through with it no matter what happens.
"What if they realise we're not part of the pack?" she added, starting to look a little green.
"Don't be silly!" Jassper huffed. "They're a pack of 2000. Even packs with 500 barely know every single pack member. We can just say we're from out of town."
"Pack members don't come from out of town," Khione told her friend. "They're a pack because they're from the same town. Well usually."
The only exception was the Mystic River pack. The river spanned three small villages, each with different resources and produce. The three pack leaders had decided that it would be beneficial for them all to form an alliance and share their produce. As a result, they combined their packs and the eldest Alpha became the leader of the pack. Their whole system was different to the rest of the werewolf community but it worked so the rest of the community was happy with it.
"Even so, it's impossible for them to know everyone in their entire town. It's almost as big as a city and has multiple schools. They'll never know," Jassper confidently said as he walked with his head held up high.
"Besides, the dinner has already ended and the elders have left. So it's only the younger crowd now. And you guys know what younger crowd means, right?" he winked at his two friends. Macy visibly calmed down a little and Khione simply rolled her eyes.
"Can we just enter already?" she said, finally hearing the banging music. The closer they walked, the more they calmed down. The music was banging and aside from a few flashing lights, the rest of the house was pretty dark. But then again, they were werewolves so their sense of smell would help them identify each other.
The three friends looked at each other before they stepped through the open doors. They walked through the large house until they reached the dance hall. Macy and Jassper both grinned before they pulled Khione to the dance floor. Khione followed with little resistance, she was just as excited as her friends.
The trio danced for what seemed like hours until Macy got distracted by some random guy. Jassper and Khione looked at each other and giggled at their friend's antics before they continued to dance some more. Khione was having so much fun that she couldn't stop smiling.
"Looks like my potion worked," Jassper wink down at his friend who rolled her eyes at him in response.
"Or everyone is too drunk to care," she poked her tongue out at him, making him laugh.
"Speaking of which, why are we not drunk yet?" Jassper asked in a tone that sounded highly offended. "Be right back," he said before he disappeared off.
Khione watched him leave and was about to follow when the friend of the guy Macy was dancing with stopped her.
"Want to dance with me?" he asked, a cute crooked smile on his face. She looked him up and down and although she wasn't entirely comfortable getting too close to a member of the Red Stone pack, she did want to have fun. Besides, it seemed like Jassper's antidote really was working.
With that thought in mind, she smiled back at him and nodded. His smile turned into a full blown grin at her response. He took her hand in hers and lead her deeper to the dance floor.
She didn't know how long they danced for but by the time they were done, she felt like her feet were about to fall off. She knew wearing stilettos wasn't a good idea, but Jassper had insisted.
Her dance partner lead her off the dance floor and towards a more quiet sitting area. She couldn't help but notice how much of a gentleman he was. Throughout their entire dance, he didn't dare do anything that may make her uncomfortable. He had even sought her approval when wanting to place her hands on her shoulders and hands. He was a total cutie to boot, with golden brown locks, dark puppy-like eyes and adorable dimples to complement his beautiful smile. Had it not been for the fact that she was saving her heart for her mate, she would have been completely smitten with him.
"What's your name?" her cute stranger asked, his dimples making an appearance once again. "I don't think I have seen you around here before."
Khione and her friends had discussed fake names while getting dressed for the night and had decided that since Macy and Jassper had pretty generic names, they did not need to come up with a fake identity for themselves. They just needed to make sure they didn't get too drunk and reveal everything. As for Khione, since her name was more unique, they had decided that it would be more suitable for her to have a fake name.
"My name is Daisy," Khione responded, before adding almost too quickly, "my family isn't fond of letting me go out after school. This is my first party ever."
That wasn't a complete lie. Her family really wasn't fond of letting her hang around after school but they trusted Jassper and Macy so they were fine with her staying with them. However, this was still her first party. She had never been to a party that kids her age had held before. Her dad was the alpha of the pack and he had insisted that a place with alcohol, s*x and possibly drugs only cheapened his name. So he never allowed her to attend any.
"What's your name?" she asked the cute stranger before he could ask any more questions regarding her identity and background. Saying too much only gave rise to mistakes and she did not want that.
Her dance partner's brows furrowed a little and he bit his bottom lip, as if her had uttered the strangest question of all time.
"I'm Otis Lyer," he stopped for a moment and examined her expression, before he added, "Beta of the Red Stone Pack."
Khione felt all the blood in her body drain. Her body suddenly turned stone cold and she felt as if all her airways had been blocked.
'f**k, f**k, f**k, f**k, f**k!' was all Khione could think in that moment. If she didn't act fast, she was doomed!
"Like I said," she smiled. "I don't go out much. I'm even homeschooled so I only ever get to go to the local supermarket."
Otis looked deep in thought, making Khione's blood pressure rise to abnormally high levels. She was beginning to see spots from the lack of air.
"Oh, I see," he finally said, looking as if it all finally made sense to him. "How did you manage to get out of the house for this party?"
Khione internally sighed in relief, feeling like she had been relieved of the weight of the world on her shoulders.
"My neighbours told them that we were going to a religious lecture," Khione fake laughed, making Otis laugh in response. Khione looked around for her two friends but unfortunately they were nowhere in sight. She needed to make her escape as soon as possible because hanging out with the Beta of the Red Stone pack was probably the most dangerous thing she could be doing at that moment.
"What's your lineage? I probably know your parents," Otis then asked, making her subconsciously facepalm. It seemed she was fated to get caught that night. Otis was too noisy for her not to.
She quickly rummaged her brain for a good lie but she couldn't come up with anything. There was no way he didn't know all the elders in the pack. Packs had meetings with all the elders of the pack every few months to ensure pack relationships were strong and everything was on track. So there was no way that those in charge of the packs didn't know a certain family. And if they didn't, then that would rise so many other questions and start up an investigation. She didn't even know a single family name from the Red Stone pack to lie.
She was just about to give up when suddenly, Otis's attention was required elsewhere.
"Otis," a deep voice called, causing Otis to straighten up as he turned to face the newcomer. The stranger's voice was so deep that it made a tickling sensation slide down Khione's spine. She slowly turned to meet the eyes of the intruder and couldn't help but gasp out loud when she met those electrifying, dark orbs.
Otis quickly moved from Khione's side and walked towards the stranger.
"Alpha," he greeted, slightly nodding his head. The stranger managed to remove his gaze from Khione and towards his Beta, only to meet Khione's gaze once more.
Despite being on the other end of the room, a very powerful aura radiated off of him and despite the fact that her mind was telling her body to run, her body was rooted into place, refusing to follow orders. Her breathing quickened the more he looked at her and eventually Khione's brain stopped functioning correctly. All she could think about was holding him close to her and doing things she never imagined. Her mind and body were craving him and all it took was the meeting of their gazes for the feeling to intensify to unimaginable heights.
He uttered a few short words to the Beta before his eyes made contact with Khione again and he began to walk in her direction.
Khione gulped as he took long strides towards her. She wanted to jump right into his arms and place her hot lips upon his but he seemed to have other ideas.
He stopped right in front of her, almost suffocating her with his aura, only to hold his hand out for her to take. Without thinking, Khione placed her small hand in his and gasped out loud at the electrifying feeling
Without saying a word, he lead her out of the room and up the stairs. Khione was not sure where he was leading her to but at that moment she did not care. She had finally found her mate and she couldn't be happier. And then the realisation set in.
Khione suddenly froze in her place and gulped at the realisation of the situation she was in. Her eyes travelled from where his hand was holding hers, up to his face and stopped only when she met his eyes. She was doomed. She was really doomed.
The Alpha of the Red Stone pack was her mate.
