Life has been great this last week, Hannah got a job in a kitchen like she wanted just not with the food, but as a dish washer. Avery found a job the same day as I did - across from the shop the body guard works - at a material shop.
Altogether we make 600 nightshades a day. We have started to buy better food and when my boss isn't there when I'm eating I pack some of the food into my back pack as well. We also got a long dress coats for each of us to protect us against the cold.
We are finally starting to feel like ourselves again, looking like ourselves too. The only negative part of this is us being more involved in the public; we see things that shouldn't be seen anywhere but in your nightmares.
Avery and Jocelyn are faced with them on a daily basis, whereas Hannah and I don't really experience it that often. Avery had come across a dark vampire the other day. To be a dark vampire, one has had to kill so much that its soul cease to exist -you can classify them by their eyes which are pitch black and their irises is bright red, since they have a everlasting hunger that can't be quenched, a punishment for the abandonment of their souls- He wanted dark material for his new bedding as he was tired of ruining his with blood stains. She kept her cool at least.
I'm on my way back now, we are all going to meet up at the main square to go and buy some real nice food, we have been saving a little for this day. We deserve to celebrate our survival. Before we came to this place our hardest obstacles were probably finding the right dress for the parties at the mansion. We never starved, or went without proper grooming, we were never faced with dangerous creatures or even had to work. Mostly we have only been children; our parents took care of us and all our needs, now it's up to us.
I could see all of them from a distance, my friends, who ever would have thought that we would find ourselves in such a predicament. Who would have thought we could survive such a place, most people would just classify us as spoiled elite brats. In some ways they would have been right I guess, but we are proving everyone wrong now.
"Hey you guys, waiting for me?"
"Nah! Just this other ugly girl, dark brown hair, bright green eyes. Have you seen her?" Hannah joked.
"Psst, that's her." Avery joined in.
"Oh sorry I meant gorgeous."
"When you guys are done fooling around can we go and buy some food?" I rolled my eyes at them, but I’m glad that they can joked around again.
"What's your hurry? You ate already right?" Avery assumed
"Nope, I packed it in." I’m saving the food for us for later. Rather save the food than eat it and be staring at a later time.
"Fine let's get going, then."
"Hey Jocelyn."
"Hey Skye." I smiled at Alec in acknowledgement and then we all started walking down the square in a lazy pace, enjoying the afternoon air. Yes we have come so far as too enjoy the different types of misty air. It's a little warmer in the afternoons and a bit less misty, you can actually see the purple force field, it's like jelly - if anything touches it, it wobbles and then you get stuck which result in the guards killing you.
We went into a shop that has prepared food since our wonderful home lacks a stove, a tap and electricity. We got beef stew and rice with baked potato's. Tonight we are going to really enjoy ourselves. Alec grabbed a bottle of juice. Besides juice wine and other alcoholic beverages is all they have here. It's only the most elite- so dangerous - people that get their hands on other beverages.
"I can't wait to sit down and eat!"
"I so second that."
"Third!"
"What's that?" I looked over to where Alec was looking. My heart immediately went into a frenzy, like it was hyper charged.
"s**t! We need to get out of here!"
"What? Why!" I kept my eye on the mist that was turning black.
"Come on!" I grabbed Jocelyn's hand as she was nearest to me and started running. People were eyeing us, but they didn't know what I knew. We won't be able to out run it, there isn't a way in hell, it's like a living body, it chases you and matches your speed. I started hearing the screams that signaled the mist has already killed it first victim and people are noticing.
"s**t! Come on guys!" Where to go! I looked at Jocelyn, who was as pale as the moon, clearly the unknown scares her a lot! She gave me an idea though.
"Come on down here." We ran down an alley where we had slept in before.
"We need to get into the trash bin, now!" Alec opened it up for us.
"Okay you need to wrap your scarves and coats around your mouths as fast as you can and get your blankets out." Everyone was busy and once they were done, we used the blankets to seal the trash bin as best we could. Alec held it down, while we all held the blankets tightly to the small opening left.
"What is it?"
"It's poisonous air, breathing it leads to immediate death."
"Why would they use it here?"
"It's not the guards, it's witches. My dad used it at the KC once."
"How long can it last?"
"5 minutes would be the average time."
"What would be above average?"
"10 minutes." The screams were closer so I knew so was the mist
"So what do you think Skye?"
"10 minutes, it adapts to the atmosphere- it's mist because it took over the natural mist, if it was raining..."
"It would be rain; the whole place is covered in a cloud of mist!" Jocelyn came to the final conclusion hysterically.
"We need to hold our breath."
"What about lover boy, he won't be able to do 10 minutes!" Avery expressed her concern.
"I'll help; just tap me when your breath is about done." I could hear it; it was like a hiss, searching for its next pray.
"Now!" All of us took a deep breath and went silent. 10 minutes in counting. After about two minutes Alec tapped my shoulder. And I leaned over and kissed him. This will be my longest kiss ever, since half bloods don't really need to breath as frequently as human, I spared my breath in take and now with our mouths locked, I gave him a little at a time. So it's more like CPR of sorts. I wrapped my coat around him as well.
The hiss was getting softer, but I was also running out of breath to give to Alec.
I felt a tap on my shoulder and saw Avery, she must have noticed what I had done and saved her breath as well, so she took over from me. I thought it would bug me, but she was helping to save his life. We have passed 10 minutes and was probably nearing 15 now, which is the limit for us too. Soon we'll all need to breath, Hannah and Jocelyn would be able to use the breathe they took earlier, whereas Avery and I have used ours up. That time came, I saw Hannah taking Avery's place, I kept holding nothing in and I was starting to get light headed, without breathing I will pass out within the next minute, but I held on for another, so did Avery and just as I was staring to feel faint the hissing stopped. I ripped the one blanket away and at the sight of the grey mist I threw open the lid and took a deep breath. More than one, I didn't stop breathing. I tried getting out of the claustrophobic bin which ended in me falling out onto the black, bloody mud, ruining my clean dress.
"How'd you know it was safe?" Jocelyn asked, clearly curious to know more about the mist.
"As it looses it's strength, it changes colour, by the time it's grey it's safe."
"This place is a death trap! I don't know how people survive here!" I exclaimed, frustrated.
"Having smart friends helps a lot!" Jocelyn said. Praising the two of us.
"Hey being willing to kiss your best friends guy, helps too!" Avery chimed in.
"Thank you for that!"
"No problem I was wondering how it would feel to kiss him since we met. He didn't do it for me though. He was stealing my breath away...wait isn't that like a good romantic sign?" Just Avery can joke like that.
"What about me, my lips got some action too!"
"Your lips are heroes!"
"They acknowledge your praise and will take in account if they wish to appreciate it." Hannah said getting out of the bin.
"Yeah thanks for saving my life! I really appreciate it, and I can't say I have ever experienced anything like it."
"Your first group? Kinky right!" I closed my eyes and sighed, not even a near death experience has gotten Avery of her suggestions.
"I'm heading out, I want to see the bitches responsible for this!" Hannah exclaimed storming of, we all followed, but was shocked as we came to the square because her plural just turned singular. We looked at the girl standing near the end of the square just a little bit away from where we were at the time the mist started.
“She's the reason we are here!"
"Of course, it's not hard to figure that out! She is oozing with darkness!"
"No, I meant she is the reason we are here in the Abyss!"
"What?" Everyone was confused by my outburst.
"Look at her, like really look at her past the crazy witch facade." All of us were staring at her. She has Long Straight white hair and silver eyes- a sign that she is dark, but looking past that she bares a resemblance to the other witch.
"I see it." Hannah agreed with me.
"She is certainly strong, it took three witches at the KC to keep up the poison air for 5 minutes, she kept it up for almost 20 minutes by herself." She started walking, I can't see how it's possible in that dress. It's a skin tight long black dress, the corset being leather with lace sleeves and the rest of the dress is satin, satin doesn't stretch and the dress has no slit.
As she moved we noticed the lake of bodies that was spread out in front of us. There must be at least 50 bodies lying around, blood seeping out of them at every possible place. Jocelyn caught her breathe and the tears she has been keeping at bay since we got here spilled over.
"Alec take her back into the alley. No one should see her crying." Crying isn't my first response, puking maybe.
"Finally the air is clean to breath, this place was just to busy for my liking." I heard her mentioning to no one as we were the only ones out so far and we weren't visible to her yet. It's only as she came closer that I saw the black snake that was coiled all over her body, its head peaking out through her hair, it is resting on her shoulder. It's not like that dress is tight enough she needs a snake to suffocate her too.
"What's it?" She asked the snake and it's looked into our direction, he must have picked up on our smell with that stupid hissing tongue of his.
"What an unpleasant surprise, I didn't expect anyone out in public already, you should be dead." She said as she came closer to us. Now that she is closer I can see her more clearly. Her lips are painted in a red colour that looks like blood while her eyes are done up in black all with a red ruby underneath her left eye in a form of a teardrop.
She was biting her long black polished nail.
"I don't know how I feel about the three of you not being dead." Just then Alec and Jocelyn came out the alley.
"Five." She corrected herself
"Your death trap wasn't something we haven't seen before, not very unique. I saw your mother do the exact same thing once."
"My mother is dead, I killed her."
"It must be your sister then, you look alike."
"She is dead to me as well."
"I wouldn't have guessed that, she has been trying to kill that Bastard Blayne for 19 years now." I felt so bad talking about my dad like that but I'm in character now.
"She has? Clearly she hasn't been successful. She is probably using her soulless minions to do her dirty work. When you want something you have to do it yourself."
"She got close about 18 years ago and she mentioned that she has a amazing bargaining chip now, she'll probably demand for your release. I just don't get why she didn't do something like that back then."
"Killing him, would have been easier."
"I don't get that." I don’t understand the witch wanted her sister back, the only one who could do that is my father, so how will killing him be of any help.
"If he dies any contracts he has with witches will be void, including the one he made with the witches that set up the force field. They would be able to take it down even from inside it."
"So you were one of the witches to form it?"
"Our whole family did it together. He has to die or all of us have to, only then the force field will go down, but knowing him there is a back up field, so his death would have been of great value. If she has a bargaining chip worth my release it will also spare his life, at least until I'm out." My dad must have a better plan set up, he can’t possible have such a week plan to keep such bad people in here.
"She is very optimistic about her new plan you might just get out of here soon, no more claustrophobic air."
"Since you've been so knowledgeable I won't kill you." She smiled cruelly at me, her snake hissed before slithering down her body and then he changed into a guy.
"She is very mouthy, let me kill her or at least let me reproduce with her, my spawn will be a hellish nightmare."
"No she was useful, until next time, may you be less useful then." So basically she hopes to kill me at our next meeting.
"I might just surprise you." She glared at me as the man transformed back into a snake and coiled around her again. She left shortly after that.
"Are you crazy!" Hannah yelled at me.
"We now know why her sister wanted my dad dead and why we are here."
"And we know that she doesn't know about us." Jocelyn defended me.
"She could have killed you!"
"Or snake boy could have r***d you!"
"He is a shape shifter, his chosen form being a snake, but he can change into anything he wants, even one of us and then he'll have our memories and know exactly who we are. We should stay away from him."
"Was that his true form though?"
"Yes. People always expect them to be some hideous monster, but they start out as human and then they shift it's as simple as that."
"What was with the spawn comment?" Alec asked
"They mostly use humans to reproduce, but they can settle for half bloods or their own species.
"Skye you are staying far away from him."Alec said sickened by the thought.
"Trust me I plan on it."
"Stupid b***h made our food get cold!" Avery exclaimed.
"Maybe if we inform the owner that it's safe and he can get back to work, he'll heat it up." I suggested. They did help us out, we quickly made our way to an alley, ate and finally tucked ourselves in for a good nights sleep.
