"Are you sure you want to do this?" My mom said as we pulled up in front of the school. I haven't been so sure on anything in my entire life. I want to be a normal teenager, that is why all those years ago my parents moved to the suburbs. I can't take another day of homeschooling it might just cause my insanity.
"Yes mom I'm sure." I looked over at my mom still looking as beautiful as ever. No one would ever belief that she is my mom, but that can be said for everyone I know as well. I'll also freeze in time like her as soon as I'm 21. That's how old my uncle Dustin is and has been for many years.
"Okay call if you need anything or just want to come home." I smiled at her and got out of the car. I took a deep breath before walking onto the school ground, my excitement feels like it's boiling up inside of me, but I know it isn't displayed on my face. I have a tendency to not show what I feel. I'm more of an observer so it fits; my mom says I've been like this since I was born. 'It's valuable traits you got from your father.' She always told me 'it makes you seem mysterious' she did this weird eyebrow thing to accompany her words, I always laughed at that.
I walked into the school building and towards my locker. I don't have any intention to become head cheerleader or even be on any sort of school team...I'm not allowed anyways. All I want to do is to fit in and enjoy my time at school. I walked to my first class and sat down waiting for it to start. Which is only in 10 minutes, maybe I'm a little to excited.
"Hey new girl! I'm Penny. You have very piercing blue eyes, wow it looks like someone put a light on inside your head. I see you like to come in early as well, yeah me too. I don't like the rush that happens when the bell rings, it's like a stampede, everyone getting to their classes as fast as possible no matter if they bump, shove or walk all over you. I'm such a small person that I really find it difficult and annoying, don't you find it annoying as well, of course you do right? Yes of course I'm right." I wonder if she is done I think she makes up for the little I've talked in my life in just this few minutes.
"Hi I'm Skylar."
"What a pretty name, your name fits with your eyes has anyone ever told you that, if they have I can come up with something unique I like to be different. Different is a good thing, not a bad thing, you must know you seem different as well, I mean you are totally gorgeous. I bet a girl has never told you that!" I can't imagine how busy it must be inside her head.
"Thank you."
"You are really quiet; you've only said 5 words in 5 minutes. If I put it like that it sounds like you are a slow speaker as if you said one word per minute, can you imagine that! You'd never finish a sentence, okay maybe you will, but me, joh I would never just imagine this would have taken me a hour to say, no maybe just an half an hour, or 45 minutes. Okay an hour now." I didn't even notice the bell ring through her babble and I was really excited about hearing my first bell. I'll hear it when the period ends at least.
"Hi penny, who's your friend?"I looked up uninterested at the girl in front of us.
"What are you speechless now? Miracles do happen? Your friend can probably speak for herself. So who are you?" One look tells me that I do not like this girl, but if I don't talk to her she'll think that she can walk over me like she does with Penny.
"You don't need to know my name as I don't have any interest in being even the slightest bit linked to you, but you can always guess if it's so important to you trivial existence."
"You... Alec I saved you a seat!" She had started to scream at me, but then she bat her eyelashes at a guy that came into the classroom. I found it disguising how two faced she was. The guy who looked up wasn't bad looking at all, I do believe I might have my first school crush.
"Thanks but I'm fine here in front.” He looked at me and smiled, our eyes meeting for a second. It seemed to piss the girl from earlier off so... hell yeah.
The rest of the class was really interesting it's the same work I did in home schooling, but not in a way- it seems more fascinating. It nice to see a teacher that I don't recognize in front of me. I've had the same teacher since I started with school. It was just me and her in a room day after day, month after month, year after year. The only time I saw other kids related to school work was when we wrote tests, then I saw all my friends, back at the mansion.
Not to mentioned that I basically sat extra hours with the women for vampire history. She was intrigued by it, but her face never changed from that one boring drab expression. She also use to squint at me as if trying to figure out what I was thinking. I didn't talk to much to her. High school is so much better. I finally heard my first bell and it was awesome. Penny seemed to like me even more and I figured that I liked her too. The two of us seem to be a great fit, I hardly talk she hardly stops we make up the loss of each other. The day went by quickly, quicker than I could believe, but watching everyone leave was more prove than I needed. I stopped over at my locker to put my books away since I didn't get homework.
That's when I saw him again walking down the hall, his golden blonde brownish hair falling over his forehead. His brownish green eyes seeming focused, like he his thinking about something. He passed me but stopped.
"Hi you're Skylar, right?"
"Yes." He is actually talking to me and he knows my name!
"I'm Alec."
"I heard." I just have to play it cool.
"I've wanted to talk to you since first period, but I always get so busy during the day. How was your first day here with us?"
"Fine." Incredible, amazing, motivating, fascinating, remarkable! Like nothing I have ever experienced!
"You don't say much, I saw that you were pretty quiet today as well." He was watching me, fair enough since I was watching him as well.
"I'm not quiet I'm just reserved." Yes I am flirting with this cute guy in front of me.
"For what are you reserving yourself?"
"For the right opinion at the right moment." Why does it feel like we are talking about more than me talking? I'm usually good at this, not as good as Avery, but I'm okay at least.
"That sounds smart maybe I should try that."
"Your smile is gorgeous. Yeah it seems to be worth it." He acted like he only reserved that for me. I just stared at him trying to stop my smile from growing even bigger.
"I need to go now, but I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay." I kept my cool that's all that matters, because inside I was terribly excited at seeing him again .
The rest of the week went by faster, I saw Alec a few times, he always greeted me and asked me how I was, but he seemed to be really busy all the time, which changed on Friday.
"Hey penny, do you mind if I get some time with Skylar?"
"I don't mind at all, but she isn't much of a talker." Penny got up leaving me alone with Alec. She bite down on her bottom lip to stop from smiling like a i***t. She does that when she gets really excited.
"Dear reserved Skylar, how have you been?"
"Just fine, in demand Alec."
"Oh I like that! So what are you doing all the way out her?"
"It's the only place that isn't busy and crowed and it's beautiful." I explained to him. I’m use to being on my own everyday, the cafeteria is a bit loud and full for my liking.
"I know what you mean that's why I play football, the scenery." I rolled my eyes at him not answering.
"Tell me about yourself?"
"You're doing that?" I teased him. I could get lost in his eyes.
"Right it's such a boring way to approach the situation."
"What about this- I'll guess!" he really is a funny bunny, always out for the laughs.
"Your new to town?" I nodded.
"Only child?" I nodded again.
"You have blue eyes... see this isn't going to work." he finally gave up on the ridiculous idea.
"What do you want to know Mr. In demand?"
"Everything!" No one has ever wanted to know everything about me.
"That's a tall order.""But it's worth it."
"It might not take long, though." There isn’t really a lot about me that I can just divulge to someone.
"It's going to be more than you ever spoke to me so it'll be fine Ms Reserve."
"You were right about what you said so far. I use to be home-schooled so I didn't get out much, but it was okay since all my friends were home-schooled too."
"Why were you home-schooled?" Difficult one, because I'm a half vampire and my parents are big shots so they always thought it would be dangerous and difficult for me to be integrated into normal society.
"We travel around a lot, so it made it easier."
"That must have been interesting. What do you like to do with your time? Like coming to the football came, to cheer on the in demand Jock- Just a random example."
"Nah, why would I want to do that?" I teased him again. Silly boy.
"Harsh." he held onto his heart as if I wounded him.
"My life is busy so I just go with the flow."
"So if I asked you on a date for tomorrow, it would be consider as going with the flow right?"
"I can't." I rejected his date, even though I would have loved to go.
"If you're parents are strict I've never met anyone who I couldn't convince."
"Interesting..."
"Not with girls! I would never do that. I'm naive when it comes to them." I laughed shaking my head at him.
"No it's not my parents. I'm just not in town on weekends."
"Where to?"
"We fly up to our other house."
"Do you know how rich you just sounded?" Yeah, I must have sounded intimidating.
"Can't you stay this weekend?"
"No not this weekend." but maybe I could ask my parents if we could stay sometime.
"You just broke my heart Ms. Reserve."
"I'm sorry I guess I'm just in demand." I joked with him.
"Funny." He shook his head at me.
"I'm not gong to ask you out again, until I'm sure that you'll be home my heart just won't be able to take such cruel rejection again." The bell rang signaling the end of the break.
"Good luck with that." I threw over my shoulder as I walked away from him. I just flirted with Alec without being a nervous wreck. Sure there have been Vampire boys at parties, but I haven't exclusively liked one of them. The rest of the day felt even better in a way and by the time school was over I was ecstatic. I walked into the parking lot looking for my mom when I saw Rufus standing next to a black bike.
"Rufus!" I yelled running over to him throwing myself into his arms.
"What are you doing here?" This is a big surprise.
"Your parents said it's fine if I came to pick you up. Your father made it perfectly clear that I can collect you at school and bring you straight home, but I was thinking something more along the line of ice cream for the birthday girl."
"Your rebellion is epic!" I loved Rufus he wasn’t like all the other people my parents knew he had more of an edge to him and even though he feared my dad he always found a way to rebel against the higher families, even though he technically fell under those families.
"It's the best I can do on short notice, or I'd have kidnapped you for a long afternoon just wasting time on the road." I had enough talking I wanted onto that Bike.
"Let's get going!" I exclaimed in excitement.
"You seem to have an admirer." I looked in the same direction as Rufus, to see Alec staring at us.
"That's Alec, he asked me on a date today."
"Brave boy what did you say?"
"That I won't be in town." I said shrugging. What else could I have said.
"You need to learn the art of letting people down nicely." He said handing me the helmet. My outfit will look so bad ass on the bike, with my black skinny jeans and dark navy blue top with its golden studs on the shoulders and sheer back. I saw Rufus handing my backpack to the car next to us; I looked inside to see Matt.
"Hi Matt."
"Hi Skye, Happy birthday." Matt is the only person I ever met that talked less than me.
"There was a debate if you would get on the bike." Rufus told me as Matt drove away.
"Oh I'm getting on it alright." It was two minutes later when we speed off.
Alec's POV
"Dude it looks like your girl isn't a free agent."Sam said as he came to talk to me.
"What?" My girl? Free agent? He needs to brush up on how to for coherent sentences.
"Look." I looked into the direction he was pointing and saw Skylar run into the arms of a guy. He is bigger than the biggest guy on our football team and has tattoos, piercings and scar as far as the eye can see. How is it possible that, that guy can be her type? Is that why she told me no when I asked her out, did she lie about her plans of leaving town this weekend or did she mean that she was leaving with him? She looked at my direction, I guess he pointed out that some guy was staring at his girl; she doesn't even need to hold him back. Is he that confident that she wouldn't cheat on him? Or am I just too little a threat. Her boyfriend handed her bag to another guy that was sitting in a car from what I could see he also looked dangerous, he didn't have any tattoos, but the way he was looking at the people around him, made me feel anxious. He left after getting her backpack. Maybe this boyfriend of hers is in a gang or something, the other guy could work for him or he is her driver... She got on the bike. Her long dark brown curls concealed up in the helmet. She looked so sexy as they drove off, the sheer of her top taking wind exposing her slight figure.
"You stand no chance against that!" My friend said patting my back before walking away. I didn't know what came over me but the next thing I knew I was following them. When I pulled up they were already in the ice cream shop.
Skylar's POV
"I thought all of us were meeting up at the mansion tomorrow, like daddy arranged." I told Rufus and I waited in line to get ice cream.
"I wanted to be here on your actual birthday, Matt stole my idea.”
"Did Morgan come with you?" Morgan is Rufus’ daughter she is a couple of years older than me, but we have become friends over the years.
"No she, Gemma and Claudine has some kind of assignment thing at the university." Gemma and Claudine was thick as thief and then Rufus' daughter Morgan showed up and they all have been inseparable since. They all attend the same University and share a house while they are there. It’s strange to think that my aunt Gemma is only in university now joined with Aunt Bridget's oldest daughter Claudine. It’s whacky and thinking about the strange family tree hurts my head.
"Are they coming tomorrow?"
"No but I think they are flying in on Sunday." I hardly ever get to see them these days and we all use to be close when I was younger.
"Looks like we have a stalker on our hands?" I looked over my shoulder to see Alec getting out of his car."
"It must be a coincidence." Rufus got the ice cream and then we went to sit down.
"Of course it is. Have you told your father about this human boy?" sometimes I wonder what people think if they overhear our conversations with trigger words like ‘human boy’
"I only met him 5 days ago; I'm not ready to tell my dad, can you imagine that conversation. He will freak out if he just for a second thought that I like boys."
"I imagine the conversation would have been a lot worse if it was about 18 years ago, when he... your father clearly doesn't know what you and your friends do in the dark halls while their are balls at the mansion."
"Kissing isn't a sin." I defended us.
"No, of course not. I think you should tell them about the boy when they can't get angry at you like on your birthday." I saw his face he had an evil plan brewing.
"Hey Alec." he called Alec over, is he insane!
"No Rufus! What are you doing? You're crazy!" Alec seemed to pale when Rufus called him over but he still came.
"Join us, Skylar has told me so much about you." This is so embarrassing, like a big brother trying to make me feel uncomfortable in front of my crush.
"I didn't know she had a boyfriend." Alec defended, both Rufus and I started to laugh.
"I'm not her boyfriend, her father would kill me. No not even Blayne- Kaitlinn would castrate me."
"Rufus is a family friend. I've known him my whole life, in fact he use to have a thing for my mom, it would be so weird."
"I'm actually here for Skylar's birthday. That's why we are eating ice cream ignoring what her father said about going straight home, but you..." I stabbed a spoon into Rufus leg, cruel I know, but I can't have him inviting Alec to my house. I need to keep my two worlds far apart for as long as possible.
"Like I was saying, you should come over. We're going to probably have a nice dinner."he has surely lost his marbles, he just invited a human into a vampire house for a ‘nice dinner’
"Sure I'd love too." I'd love to kill Rufus at this moment.
"You can catch a lift with him to your house I don't want to be slowed down by a car." I'll murder him tonight when he is sleeping, that I promise. We finished our ice cream and then we were on our way out.
"You're bleeding." Alec told Rufus.
"Something must have cut me; it's not a big deal." He must be healed by now, the blood being the only evidence left of my anger. I buckled up when I got into Alec's car. I've never been in a car with anyone other than family of course.
"Why didn't you tell me that it is your birthday?"
"It didn't come up and we are only celebrating it tomorrow."
"Oh that's nice, that's why you're leaving town?"
"Yeah the whole family is getting together at our other house." Silence fell over us at that moment, I listened to the music to try and distract myself, since I know he wanted me to ask him, but the mansion isn't a place for a naive human.
"I live over there." I pointed to the largest house on the street. He already thinks I'm a rich girl and I'm not improving that image in the slightest. Rufus pulled up just ahead of us.
"Are you ready?" Rufus asked as we neared him and I wasn't, I'm not ready to introduce my crush to my parents and I was most certainly not ready for what happened when the door opened.
