I don’t think Marlene had expected me to take her anywhere too fancy, but she had definitely not been expecting the outdated old campsite beside the Auensee lake I had chosen before I even thought of inviting her to join me. It had been the first campsite I saw when I looked at the map with going out to transform in mind, and I had not been thinking about the amenities when I phoned them to ask if they had any vacancies. The little wooden shacks they had available for tourists were badly in need of renovation, but that didn’t bother me when I only needed a place to keep my things while I went out. But that wasn’t the situation I was in, now. I wasn’t here alone, I was here with Marlene and that meant the uncomfortable bed with its scratchy sheets in a building that had no air conditioni
