CHAPTER THIRTEEN Darkness came slowly but now covered the sky, hiding the stars and concealing the moon in thick clouds scarcely visible in the nighttime horizon. Dakota winced, shielding her eyes from the many lights of the crowded section of the city block. Late evening now conceded to night, and Dakota's eyes scanned the windows in the apartment building, attentive and alert. “He's on the first floor,” she said, nodding to the lower level. Marcus scanned the building, his eyes landing on a window with bars covering it. He glanced to Dakota, nodded at the window, then shrugged and stalked forward with lengthy strides.
