MILDRED I broke free from Marcella's grasp as we got to the living room. Marcella's gaze momentarily widened at me and her cherry red painted lips crimped in disapproval, suggesting she was taken aback by my actions toward her. But I would rather appear rude to one of Enid's friends than be caught dead on the spot. I couldn't risk my family recognizing me.
