I don’t think you’ve ever been to an amusement park, Bianca, but there are some rides that spin around and the floor drops away and you get this queasy feeling in the pit of your stomach before your sense of balance, your sense of up and down, restores itself. Then you may be falling like an elevator with its cable cut, or you may re-establish a sense of stability. But that wasn’t what happened here. For me it was like a shirt or a sock that’s been taken off inside-out and some giant invisible hand was reaching down my throat to turn me back the other way. The PBJ I’d eaten just a couple hours earlier wanted to come along with it. It had been crunchy peanut butter, too, and I couldn’t imagine it looking any better the second time around.
