CHAPTER NINEAnthea took several deep breaths before she entered the Saloon and was a little disappointed to find Linette and the Earl laughing and joking as if nothing had happened. ‘She has not yet told him,’ she thought, as the Earl welcomed her. She cast a look at Linette, who was gazing down at her shoes with a guilty expression on her face. ‘Perhaps I shall leave them alone after the meal and she will tell him then,’ she reflected, accepting the aperitif the Earl was offering her. After dinner Anthea rose and made her excuses. As she left the Saloon, she gave Linette a meaningful look and hoped that she would take the hint.
