(Alpha Ivan's POV)
At the pack house, I tossed on my bed as I woke up, it was not a typical day, this was one of those days when Eric, my beta would mind link me even though he knew I would never be late. I was supposed to address the rest of the Alphas in my pack, this happened once a month and it was definitely not new. But Eric was just a pain in the ass with his zealousness and great attention to details, ugh!
'Alpha!'
Right on cue, Eric mind linked me and I wanted to roll my eyes but I knew he wouldn't see me doing it, so I didn't bother at all..
'Yes yes the meeting, I'm on my way on there..' I answered him even before he would say anything.
'Wrong. The meeting has been canceled by the council of elders, there will be a mating ceremony today at the pack and the elder supposed to be present has excused himself as unavailable.'
'Good morning to you too'
I replied in response to his long message. As my beta, it was Eric's duty to inform me about things like these, especially since I was so busy on a normal day. It was choice that drove me to responsibility and I deliberately fashioned it that way, I wanted to be busy.
Sometimes, Eric would complain that I should loosen up but honestly, fun, women, time off work and all that, were not on my to do list. I liked to throw myself into work and focus on things that would lead my pack forward rather than hooking up with Omegas who would die for a night in bed with me.
Knowing that most of the she wolves in my pack wanted me did not give me an edge over them, neither did it prompt me to getting in bed with them, rather it made me want to meet my fated mate more than anything.
I was already 29 and I still hadn't found her. Sometimes, I wondered if the moon goddess had forgotten my existence and need for a mate, who I could bond with.
Powerful, hot, sexy, these were descriptions that I had heard she wolves make of me and I wasn't surprised, I looked in the mirror daily and I saw these things. I did all I could to get stronger daily but what was the entire point without my mate,without someone that I would be proud to show these things off to? There was no point.
Eric had advised times without number to get together with omegas who would want to jump into my bed nicely but I never listened. It was not my thing, I had decided..
'yeah whatever. The ceremony is soon. The new mates would be expecting your presence..so better get your ass to this place soon.Tut tut, I can see you rolling your eyes.'
That last line was said at the exact moment when I rolled my eyes at his words and I smiled right after because I wondered, was I that predictable or we were so close? Eric was also my best friend and confidante. He was a good help when it came to the running of the pack.
He turned out to be more capable than I had expected.
'ugh!' I grunted in disapproval that he knew.
'i can bet you have other things to do than to predict my actions thisearly in the morning, Eric, leave me alone..' I answered him before rapidly cutting off the link. I knew that if we kept on talking, then I would never stand up for that ceremony.
A mating ceremony, huh? I could not help but wonder, when will I throw my own mating ceremony? When? As the pack master, the ceremony would of course be on a much larger scale than the one that would be holding today, I was craving being able to claim someone, to put my mark, so boldly on someone else. I could already imagine it, but there was no girl, nothing.
.. .. ..
I had refreshed myself, shaken thoughts of women off my head and gotten myself back together when I got to the mating ceremony. Of course, dear Eric was already seated waiting for me as he swirled his drink in one hand.
He was eating up one of the omegas in the crowd with his eyes as he looked her up and down and did it again and again.
I rolled my eyes at his antics, and plopped down beside him.
"Ahem!" I cleared my throat to get his attention and eyes off this girl who was already staring at him.
"Oh you're here. I've got my eyes on the girl and she's .."
"I noticed, Eric.' I cut his words short, i knew that if I let him go on, that would be a never ending speech which would bore me to death.
Eric didn't seem deterred at all, all that was on his mind was that Omega, I bet.
I watched the proceedings of the ceremony and i just looked away occasionally. In this time, I had not noticed that Eric had already made his way towards the blonde haired omega and with the way his hands were roving her body unhindered, I was sure that she found him attractive too.
By the time my eyes would search for Eric, I saw him with his hand around her body, they were leaving the ceremony, already.
'get yourself a wolf this hot, Alpha'
Eric mind linked me as he left the ceremony grounds and I rolled my eyes discreetly.
'f**k off, Eric' I chided him in disapproval.
Eric didn't have his mate yet either which was why he chose to w***e around in grand style instead of being like me.
Hours after the mating ceremony when I met up with Eric who kept on smirking at me, I was informed of an important piece ofinformation.
"Hey Alpha.."
"Get on with it Eric." I chided him.
"The pack lost the bid to have the blue moon festival, of was given to the Ranege pack and your presence at the festival is important. Think of how terrible it would be if you couldn't make it there.."
"Hey hey hey, Eric, I'm going. Don't bother me to death with your words, I have totally totally no idea why you're my best friend, how did I put up with you for so long anyway?"
I asked Eric in reply though this was the first time that I would be hearing that my pack had lost the bid for the celebration of the blue moon festival. It was also the first time that we would lose a bid toorganize anything for nearby packs.
"Well, I have a secret to tell you though. So stop sulking.." Eric began and this time I paid attention to his words, who knew what he wanted to say? Sometime, information from him could be really helpful.
"It's about the festival.."
