*Nathaniel* The smell of stagnant mildew and rust saturates the air. It's like it is clinging to every surface around me. The building used to be a beautiful brick home, but it stands empty now. Why it stands empty now is not really why I am there. Still, it makes me sad. This used to be someone's place where they would return after a long day of work. I can almost feel the presence of those who used to be here. It was like I could see them coming in and putting their keys on the counter, greeted by their family. Perhaps it was an older way of thinking, but I suspect this house stood through many generations of families. I push past these sentiments and focus on the task at hand.
