Chapter 3Because he had the feeling it was going to be a long and, if things went the way he hoped, productive night, Colt ate a quick supper and then grabbed a few hours’ sleep after setting his alarm for one A.M. By one-thirty, having showered, dressed, and made certain he had everything he needed for whatever might happen, he was pulling out of the garage onto the street. Ten minutes later he parked in the club’s lot and called Gaines to let him know he was there. “You’re early,” Gaines commented. “Very good. Come to my office. I have something you might need.” Colt was fairly certain he knew what it was, and thought it was just as well his pistol was in an ankle holster. It wouldn’t do for him to pull back his jacket if Gaines handed him a holstered weapon, thus revealing he was wea
