{Celeste’s POV} “Nana.. I’m so sorry..” I cried out, pulling the letter to my chest. I cried, my body shaking, as I fell to the floor on my knees. “I’m so sorry..” I whimpered. I pulled back up the letter looking at it, and finding my place. “I never once blamed you for how things ended up, I still love you, more than anything. You are my sun, my moon, my stars, my everything. Please, take care of our home, and of Veryn and Dayus, they’re sweet boys. I found them under the house years ago. My father had told me that the basement was dangerous, and to never go down there. Of course I didn’t listen..” I paused, chuckling, and sniffing as tears continued to pour. Nana never did as she was told, she was an amazing woman. “ I snuck down one night, after unlocking the doors, and I found two men asleep in their beds. I couldn’t figure out what was happening, and I tried to wake them to no avail. While down there I found a diary, so I picked it up to find that Dayus had written it. It explained who they were, why they were here. According to him, my great, great grandfather had found them in a cave near the house. They were vicious, and feral, and he wanted to help them. So he began trying to make contact with them. Slowly over time, he earned their trust, leading them back to the house. He began extending the basement to make another home under ours for them. Sadly, after he passed away, my great grandfather became the man of the house, he found them and sealed them away in the basement. Soon, they would both fall into a deep slumber, the only way to wake them up would be to give them a few drops of blood. So, I did it, I pricked my finger, and dropped some of my blood into Dayus’ mouth. He woke up not long after, and we went together to wake up Veryn. Once they were both awake, I begged their forgiveness for my great grandfathers actions, to which they forgave me. Soon, I had the door changed so no one would stumble into the basement, but they could get out whenever they wanted. I put the lock on their side of the door, and only asked that when they come out, to wait until the family was asleep, so they did. They have been my faithful friends for the past fifty years, and I hope that you will be kind to them as well. Please, take care of them, and our home. Love always, Nana Marnie.” I whimpered slights as I finished reading the letter. “So.. my Nana freed you?” I asked, my voice soft, and shaky from crying. “Yes, she took care of us all this time, and when her nurses would either leave, or go to sleep, we would come out. We’d talk with her, and take care of her until she fell asleep.” He said from outside the door. I walked to the door, flinging it open and jumping into his arms, wrapping my arms around him. “Thank you for taking care of my Nana.. I should have been here for her.. I’m so stupid..” I cried. He jumped back slightly, in surprise before carefully, and gently wrapping his arms back around me and petting my hair. “It’s okay.. your Nana never blamed you.. she said you were in love.” He said. I pulled back, looking anywhere but at him. “I was.. a long time ago.. I never should have left, Nana was right.” I sighed. “She was always right, she knew that he wasn’t right for me.. I should have listened..” “Are you serious?” I heard another voice come from the staircase. I looked over to see the other man from earlier standing there. “She died thinking that she messed up, that she drove you away, and you come back now? You come back now saying that she was right?!” He shouted. I jumped slightly, tears still streaming down my face. “I.. I had been trying to find..” I began, but he cut me off. He scoffed. “I don’t want to hear it! You’re a real piece of sh**! I don’t care what you do, just stay the he** away from me!” He sneered, turning and stomping back down the staircase. I sniffled, tears streaming down my face. “Hey, it’s okay, he’s just mad, he didn’t mean it..” the man with long black hair said, tilting my chin to look up at him. “No..” I stopped him turning away. “He’s right.. it doesn’t matter what I say, I fu**** up.. and my Nana’s gone.. I’ll never get to tell her anything that I wanted to say.. I’ll never get to ask her to forgive me.. I’ll never.. I’ll never see her again..” I whimpered. “I-I’m going to bed.. I have an early day..” I said, closing the door and locking it. I walked over to my place in the floor, in front of the fireplace. I wrapped myself in the blanket and cried until I finally fell asleep. The next morning I woke to the sound of birds outside my window. I sighed, sitting up, and stretching out my back after a long night in the floor. I slowly stood, before making my way to the bathroom, I turned on the water in the shower and quickly jumped in. I washed off, before getting out and getting ready for the day. I pulled my long brown hair up into a ponytail, and put on a little makeup. Then, I grabbed a pale yellow sundress from my bag, along with a white, floppy hat. I paired it with a pair of white heels, and a white purse. I quickly packed everything I needed for the day and headed out to town.
