CHAPTER ELEVEN Dakota could feel a strange gravity over Chicago's finest as she stepped into the victim's house. Behind her, she left the scene of flashing blue and red lights, barking voices, and the sound of stomping footsteps. The house itself was massive. An expensive, luxurious mansion just bordering the city. Also, it had been fifteen minutes from the college. Dakota wrinkled her nose, turning to look over her shoulder in the direction of the junkyard just visible past the first row of trees. This particular subdivision was new. The house itself was brand-new. The trees lining the pavements were young and spry.
