Hawk’s POV. “Now shift,” I command my mate. Desperate to meet her wolf. My own wolf is buzzing with excitement. Derry drops to her hands and knees. I have to clench my fists to stop myself from trying to catch her. It feels wrong to let her fall. I want to catch her, always, but she can’t shift in my arms. Her fingers dig into the earth beneath her and she pants out her breaths. Something is wrong, it shouldn’t take this long. I crouch down in front of her. Her eyes lift to mine. “I thought you said this wouldn’t hurt,” she says through clenched teeth. Then her face contorts in pain as she screeches. Her arms give out, I catch her head just before her face hits the ground and her body begins to jerk violently. “Derry!” I shout in desperation. I try to scoop her into my arms but her bod
