Gavin doesn’t get a chance to talk with Brody much during lunch—it’s Evie’s show, and she loves having someone new in the audience. Whenever Gavin or Brody try to start a real conversation, she breaks in with, “Watch this!” or “Look at me!” or “You’re not watching!” Finally Gavin just sits back and lets her perform. It’s obvious she’s smitten with Brody, who seems equally as taken with her.
That’s a good sign, Gavin thinks. Part of the reason why he hasn’t let himself get serious with anyone since Evie came along is because he’s afraid his having a daughter will scare guys away. Or, worse, they won’t take to her, and then he’ll be forced to end a new relationship before it even really gets off the ground.
