Ueno clan is well known in Tokyo, not only because they’re filthy rich but they’re also yakuza. It was a rare occasion that they’ll throw a party in their turf but they made an exception to Juri’s request. Juri is the successor of the clan and he rarely make a request to his family thus when he ask for a house party, although reluctant, his parents gave in. Now the whole place is open to his friends and their friends, nevertheless the area is still secured by the clan’s people. Stefani managed to attract Juri’s attention thus she’s the closest among the three to their target. Peter blended in with the crowd as usual as he’s naturally a party goer and the best to cause diversion. As for Ves, since his partner is already drunk, after asking for a room to stay the night, he left Hanabi sleeping in the bed before he roams around the area. Since the interior of house is unknown, Ves had to make inspection first before they plan how to infiltrate sooner or later. He has a video recording device attached to his collar that looks like a button so it’s not that conspicuous. Ves was about to walk to a corridor when two men suddenly appeared from the dark corner of the room and blocked his way. “I’m sorry. I thought it’s the way to the game room.” Ves talked to the men in fluent Japanese. “I’m a little lost, will one of you show me the right way?” he looked at the two men exchanging signals to each other. One of the men agreed to guide him and when the said man left his post another man emerged from the dark took his place. Dark places are no good so Ves had to his hypnosis in a bright place where he can see clearly if there’s anyone around. After successfully extracting information from the man who guide him to the game room, Ves could only sighed with the sight that welcomed him as soon as he arrived. The people aren’t playing games for fun but having an orgy! “Hey man! I gotta show 'em how a pimp get it in!” Peter proudly said while giving a pleasure with his partner. ‘Seriously, what part of stay low that this guy didn’t understand?’ Ves thought to himself as he looked at Peter coldly. “I’ll pass. I’m only interested with one girl and she’s not here.” Ves turned around and never look back as he strode out the room full of moaning and groaning. “I should’ve known better.” Instead of staying in the house any longer, Ves headed straight to the house that Mark arranged for their operation. Ves told the rest of the team what he found out and gave the device to Michael to make a copy of the video Ves captured and an outline map of the house interior. Since they’re dealing with the yakuza this time, aside from one of the Silk Sonic they also team up with The Smeezingtons, that’s how dangerous their mission is. “Can’t sleep?” Parker asked when he noticed Ves tossing around the bed. They’re staying in a traditional Japanese house and there’s only one bedroom that is good for 8 people thus everyone shares the same room but with separate mattresses, pillows, and blankets. “Did I wake you up?” Ves looked at Parker beside him before he turned his head to stare at the ceiling. “Sorry.” “No need, I wasn’t sleeping too.” Parker raised his arm and put it beneath his head as a pillow as he also stares the ceiling. “This is your third Christmas with us, right?” “And my last too. But I’ll be spending Christmas next year in the military camp.” Ves sighed. “Right, your country requires men to serve the military for almost 2 years. What’s your plan after that?” Parker questioned. “Aside from adapting to the society, I’ll probably go back to work as a psychologist, though I have a lot of catching up to do.” Ves replied as he makes a plan to himself three years from now. “What about the young lady of the Nevaeh? Aren’t you going to propose marriage to her?” Parker turned his head towards Ves. Ves laughed. “I didn’t know that you listen to gossip too.” “Not because I’m used to killing people doesn’t mean I don’t care about people’s lives. Yes, I’m an assassin but I care about the people I work with.” Parker stated as a matter-of-fact. “I know. You and the others don’t kill innocent people. I was wrong to judge The Smeezingtons as killing machines. I was wrong to judge everyone in the organization as evil people lurking in the dark. Honestly, I don’t know what’s right anymore, I’m already tainted since I had my first assignment. I steal things that aren’t mine and deceive people to trust me when I’m on a mission. Actually, I’m already used to this life and I don’t know if I can go back to a normal life after this.” Ves let out his fear. “You’ll be fine.” Parker assured him. “You had a life out there before you got here. We’re just delaying your bright future by detaining you here in the organization. But still there’s a life waiting you out there, unlike us. There’s no place for us in the society as we’re all unwanted. We’re all scarred by our past that made us choose to be on the dark side. We can only hide to survive and live in this mad world.” Ves already understood this matter when he opened up to the people in the organization, they aren’t just a group of villains in the society but people who come together to live after the society rejected their existence. They didn’t want to do unlawful things but the law turned its back against them first. They are misfits of the society but the organization give them belongingness, a family that support each other. “Say, you want to go to Korea?” Parker suddenly asked after a long silence between them. “What do you mean?” Ves snapped back to his senses. “It’s not like you’ll take a whole day to go back and forth since it’s just neighbor country. You’re idle anyway until afternoon, why not go and see your woman, spend a few hours of Christmas with her?” “Can I really go?” Ves sat up immediately. “Up to you, you’re the one who’ll be tired with the travel not me. Just be here by afternoon and don’t compromise the mission.” “Why didn’t I think about it?!” Ves stood up and change his clothes in a hurry. “Thank you, Parker.” “I guess I’m smarter than you after all.” Parker turned his back against Ves and said, “Merry Christmas, Ves.” Ves smiled and greeted Parker back, “Merry Christmas to you too.” It was 1am but since it’s Christmas Eve and there are a lot of Christians in Tokyo who celebrates the occasion, Ves spent two hours on the road just to get to the airport. He just got lucky that there’s a flight bound to Seoul in just an hour after his arrival and the business class wasn’t full yet so he didn’t hesitate to buy the ticket and used his fake passport. After five hours of travel via plane and taxi, Ves finally arrived at the gate of the Nevaeh residences. “Good morning, will you please make a call to the South Mansion? I’m Hestia’s guest.” Ves said to the guard on the booth. The guard made a phone call as he told, since Ves looks familiar to him although he couldn’t remember his name since there’s a lot of people visiting the residences. “Your name, sir?” “Ves Taz.” Ves replied. The guard told the staff in the South Mansion who answered the call and was asked by the latter to hold for a minute to confirm Ves identity to Hestia’s attendants since he was unfamiliar with the name because he served Hestia’s father. Though it took five minutes to confirm Ves identity because of the security protocol in the area, Ves was escorted by two of the securities at the gate with their service vehicle. Ves was welcomed by Sharon as soon as he arrived at the South Mansion and led him to the dining area to have breakfast with Hestia’s parents. “Uncle, Auntie.” Ves greeted Hestia’s parents. Cronus smiled at Ves and said, “Come and join us for breakfast.” “I apologize for the sudden visit.” Ves walked towards the seat next to Hestia. “I made it.” he said to Hestia. “Let me guess, you came here straight from the airport?” Hestia said without sparing a glance at Ves. “Yes.” Ves keep on staring at Hestia, he still can’t believe that he’s actually seeing her at the moment. “I know I’m pretty but if you keep on staring at me like that, you’re making me uncomfortable.” Hestia finally turned her head to look at Ves. “Let’s eat breakfast first.” “Of course, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to stare, it’s just that I can’t believe that I’m here right now.” Ves also realized that they’re not alone in the dining room when he met the gazes of Hestia’s parents. “Sorry, I really miss your daughter.” “We can see that.” Rhea nodded as she squeezed Cronus hand. “Busy with work?” Cronus asked. “I heard from Tia that you’re …” “Pa, he can’t talk about it.” Hestia cut Cronus off. “Don’t ask him.” “Sorry, I didn’t mean to pry with your job.” Cronus said. “But it’s not that dangerous, right?” “Sometimes it is but I already got the hang of the job.” Ves replied truthfully. ‘Right, what they know is I’m working for a secret organization in America.’ “I see.” Cronus nodded. “That explains why your physique improved. The last time I saw you, you were skinny but now you’ve gained some muscles. I guess America makes you fit.” “You know the people there, Uncle, I gotta fit in.” Ves chuckled. “Of course, I was born and raised in LA for 14 years before my family moved in the Philippines where Tia’s generation were born.” And the rest of the conversation throughout breakfast was all about America. After dining with Hestia’s parents, Hestia led Ves to the center hall of the mansion where the gigantic Christmas tree is located. “I was thinking of going to your brother’s house since you told me you’ll be home this Christmas. Aside from that place, I don’t know where you’ll be since you’re no longer renting your apartment.” Hestia took some presents under the tree. “I even prepared presents for Juku, Shin, and Hara, also to Elvis and Wolfganger.” Elvis is Ves stepbrother, Wolfganger is Elvis’ wife and older sister of Hearthof, while Juku is their eldest son, Shin and Hara are twins that was born a few weeks ago. “Shin and Hara?” Ves didn’t know the names of his newborn nephew and niece. “That’s the twins names??” “Uh-huh.” Hestia nodded. “See, I’m more aware of your own family affairs than you.” she smiled smugly. “Thank you for looking after them while I’m not around.” Ves said sincerely as he carries the presents for his family. “Geez, what are you thanking me for? They’re your family, of course they matter to me.” Hestia took out another present and handed it to Ves. “And this is for you.” “You’re making me fee bad.” Ves looked at the presents in his arms. “I was in a rush to get here that I didn’t bring anything with me.” “Nah, it doesn’t matter. You’re here, you didn’t break your promise. That’s enough for me.” Hestia smiled sincerely at Ves. “I promise I’ll make it up to you next year, I mean two years from now. I just remember that I’ll be in the military next year so I can’t spend Christmas with you and my family.” Ves put the presents down on the floor. “As much as I like to go with you to visit Elvis’ family today, I can’t.” “What do you mean, you can’t?” Hestia looked at Ves confusedly. “I actually snuck out from work to get here. I have a flight to catch at 1pm so, would you like to have lunch with me in the airport?” Ves shyly asked. “You … what?” Hestia frowned. “Hey, aren’t you getting yourself in trouble? Why the hell did you snuck out??” “Because I promise that I’ll be home for Christmas, so here I am. You’re my home Hes.” Ves pulled Hestia in his embrace. “I’m home.”
