It was nights like these that Bailey wished that she could afford a comfortable mattress. Unlike the one in her house where there springs pinched at her back when she slept. Demetrius was definitely a lucky he was to have all this luxury at his disposal and yet he did not appreciate it.
She had no complaints when it came down to her living here, Bailey knew that this was an opportunity of a lifetime and there was no way that she would let it slip from her hands. She had a warm bed, comfortable living and all the food she could ever dream of eating.
“Wake!” someone yelled at Bailey, followed by a splash of cold water wetting her whilst she was sleeping. Bailey jolted from the bed and landed on the floor, the soft carpet breaking her fall. Bailey removed her wet hair from her face to enable her to see who the culprit was that that had done this to her.
“You?” Bailey asked, as the culprit was none other than, the handsome Demetrius Evan standing above her with his arms crossed over his chest and that irritated expression on his face.
“Yes, me” Demetrius’ cool voice broke through the silence of the room, not once did his irritated expression waver, not even when he moved his hands to his pants pocket. Bailey sat on the carpet, wet as a fish and shocked because of the lack of concern on Demetrius’ face.
“Why did you do that you toad?” She yelled at Demetrius who did not seem moved by Bailey’s name-calling. He simply raised an eyebrow and pointed his hand at the watch on the bedside table. Bailey followed Demetrius’ eyes to the clock on her bedside table, the clock read eleven thirty in the morning and she looked back at Demetrius.
“I don’t understand what you’re trying to say” Bailey responded to him an answer that made Demetrius even madder at Bailey.
“Bailey its eleven thirty in the morning, that is late for any average person” Demetrius answered her.
Bailey stood up from the floor and walked towards Demetrius, she stood just a few inches from him, looking right up at him because he was much taller than she was.
“Demetrius eleven in the morning is not late, let I remind you that I am a stripper and this is the time when I usually sleep” Bailey told Demetrius through gritted teeth.
Demetrius said nothing for a while; rather he took his time to think of the perfect reply for Bailey’s answer. She was so short and cute and Demetrius had no idea what he would do to such a cute creature like Bailey.
Demetrius leaned closer to Bailey, his lips mare inches away from Bailey’s. So close that he could feel her hot breath on his lips.
“Well you’re not a stripper anymore, you are my fiancé and therefore this is not the time to sleep” Bailey’s eyes grew wider and her irritation climbed to newer heights. She moved further way from Demetrius to distance the space between the two of them.
“Look here, I am a stripper and I have never been ashamed of it and I will not let you make me feel bad about my job. And let I remind you that this entire fiancé thing is a sham!” Bailey told him, her index finger pointed right at Demetrius.
Demetrius was not fazed by Bailey’s act of bravery; rather he thought it cute that she was playing the tough person in all this. Demetrius moved his attention from Bailey and directed it to his watch.
“Get ready, we’re going out” Demetrius demanded of her. Bailey’s eyes grew even wider than it already was, she could not believe that Demetrius was ordering her rather than kindly asking her.
“I hope you’re not ordering me around, Demetrius?” Bailey asked, impatiently waiting for an answer from Demetrius. His reaction stunned her, Demetrius did not react negatively but rather he smiled at Bailey, turned on his heel and made his way to the door, but then he stopped.
“You have twenty minutes, we’re going out” Demetrius ordered her one more time and he exited the room, slowly shutting the door behind him.
“Bastard!” He heard Bailey yell on the other side of the door. Demetrius laid his back onto Bailey’s door; he liked hearing the sound of her mumble and groan. Clearly irritated that Demetrius was ordering her. Demetrius could not understand what it was about Bailey that intrigued him; she was of course like none of the women that he had ever dated.
She was not as slim as the rest of the women he dated, neither was she botched up with too much plastic surgery with aims of looking close to perfection as she could get. Bailey was plain, she did not care what Demetrius thought about her neither did she bow down to him when he required that of her, surely his mother will like her… hopefully for his sake.
Demetrius paced the floors of his living room, irritated at Bailey. He remembered giving her specific instruction and yet she found ways to disobey him. He looked at his watch, it was almost thirty minutes past twelve, and she was nowhere.
“Damn it! Can’t this girl listen to anything I say for once” Demetrius spoke to himself, anger boiling in him.
“No I can’t listen to anything you say and also I’m a woman and not some girl” Demetrius looked up at the staircase and there Bailey was. Plain Bailey, without make-up on, her hair tied back in a dirty ponytail and even so, she looked perfect.
Demetrius snap out of it, you are mad at her. It’s best you remember that! Demetrius mentally scolded himself, he was a man known to be in control of the situation and no way would he allow a plain Jane like Bailey to change him.
“You’re late!” Demetrius commented but Bailey did not seem to care about what he had to say, again that stunned Demetrius. Usually his women cared what he thought of them but then again he had to remind himself that Bailey was not really his woman after all.
“I was getting ready” Bailey replied, without a care in the world. Demetrius looked her from head to toe and then back again. He was used to his women taking time on their many layers of make-up and finding which dresses matched their shoes or their purses. Clearly, Bailey had no clue what getting ready entailed.
“What were you doing upstairs?” Demetrius asked her, trying his sincere best to understand what it was that she had done the entire time that she had been upstairs in her bedroom.
Bailey examined herself, properly making sure that she saw what it was that Demetrius saw.
“Well I washed, brushed my hair—“
“I don’t mean that, I mean in terms of outfit and so on. Let I remind you that you were in your room for more than thirty minutes, clearly disobeying the time limit that I gave you” Demetrius told her, his voice releasing its venom.
“Well I did my hair”
“”No you didn’t, you simply tied your hair in a ponytail” Demetrius interrupted her, the look on Bailey’s face indicated that she was no too pleased with Demetrius for interrupting her like that. “Oh please, feel free to continue” Demetrius told Bailey, mocking her effort and making sure she knew it.
“As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted. I did my hair and I put together this perfect outfit for our outing” Bailey told Demetrius who said nothing to her; rather he looked at her from top to bottom again.
Bailey was used to men at the club looking at her like she was a piece of meat but when Demetrius observed her closely, she felt in secured but she mad sure that Demetrius did not see that part of her. Bailey knew that it was never good to let a predator know that they had to you scared; otherwise, you would be their next meal.
“Bailey are you aware that you’re wearing a crop top, exposing most of your stomach. You’re wearing faded jeans torn from your tights all the way to the end and black boots?”
“Yes I’m aware of that. I’m guessing your mother won’t like it then” Bailey asked him, Demetrius raised his eyebrows, confused by what Bailey had asked him.
“What makes you think we’re visiting my mother?” He asked Bailey. His hands now in his pockets, walking up the steps towards Bailey, in his boss like manner. Bailey wanted to step back so bad but she refused to show him that he intimidated her, until he stopped one-step away from her.
“What made you think that I’d take you to my mother looking like that?” Demetrius asked in a manner that would make one feel less than.
“Well, you came to my room to wake me up and I thought that—“
“Bailey I’m not paying you to think or assume anything. Look we’re going shopping, I’m not taking you to my mother looking like this” his last words landed on Bailey’s ego like venom, eating away the last of her self-esteem as he walked down the steps.
Tears stung in Bailey’s eyes as she watched Demetrius walk away from her with not a single bit of remorse for how he had hurt her feeling. Bailey clutched her hands in a fist besides her, how she badly wanted to hurt him but there was no hope, Demetrius could easily over power her.
“Then why did you pick me!” She yelled at him, he stopped at the very bottom of the steps and turned to face her. Demetrius’ face cold, not a single hint of emotion on it shown on his face.
“I’ve asked myself the same question since the day I brought you to my house three days ago and till today I can’t figure out what made me choose such a pitiful woman like yourself” Once again his words tore through her like a sharp sword.
“Then why not just send me back then? Why not get your model girlfriends to play your pretend fiancé for a month!” Bailey taunted him. Just when she thought she had failed, something in Demetrius’s face changed.
“Because my mother hates the type of women I date and besides I’m already stuck with you, now I have to drag you along for the next month” Demetrius turned his back to her before stopping.
“One last thing, lower your voice. I don’t want the staff knowing what is really going on here” he warned Bailey.
“So you’re afraid of your staff finding out the truth about this scam, looks like you’ve got a lot to lose” Bailey continued to taunt him. Demetrius turned around, now facing Bailey and looking up at her. The smile on his face sent shivers down Bailey’s spine.
“Bailey let I remind you that I’m not the only one who will lose if the world finds out about our plans” Demetrius threatened her but Bailey was not afraid of his threats.
“If you think I’m afraid of losing that measly fifty thousand dollars? Then you better think again Demetrius” she challenged Demetrius who did not seem to show signs of backing down.
“My dear Bailey I have not acquired all my wealth by taking chances with my dealings, every move I make is calculated and its best you don’t under estimate me”
“And if I do?”
“You’ll live to regret it” Demetrius warned her. Bailey knew that it was time that she stopped with her games, men like Demetrius were not the kind to make empty threats and the last thing she wanted was to end up at the bottom of some river, swimming with the fishes.
“Well then, I suggest you get yourself off my staircase and make your way to the car, we’re going shopping”
“I don’t need shopping, I’ve brought enough cloths with me” Bailey argued but Demetrius’ irritation showed on his face, indicating to bailey that it was best of she said nothing.
