Chapter 5The next week, Wes came home amid the usual traffic and early-evening color, the bronzed sapphires of the sky and the glimmer of lights turning on and the ruffle of October trees along their street. As he pulled up to the house, into the driveway, he saw autumn glowing with full-bodied joy: falling-leaf light-silhouettes in windows, and a corn-husk wreath on the door, and twinkling orange stars in the trees and bushes. A witch’s broom leaned near the front door; petite pumpkins, each one lit and smiling, sat on the three front steps.
